This is Maverick Hunter X Running On Vita

We're just a couple days away from PlayStation Vita's North American launch, and among the original PSP games available for download from the get-go is Maverick Hunter X. The above video, courtesy of 1UP's Jeremy Parish, shows off just how spiffy the game looks running on the system. It's bigger, bolder and brighter. In a word, magnificent.

So far, MHX is the only Mega Man title playable on the system outside of Japan. Powered Up is compatible, but it's only available on the Japanese PlayStation Store. All four PSOne import Rockman games, while available on PlayStation Network worldwide, are not Vita compatible at this time. Plans to address PSOne compatibility are said to be in the works, so that's something to keep an ear out for.

  1. Oh? I've played it on Vita and a friend of mine has it. The game looks beautiful! It even loads a lot faster before boss battles, like an overclocked PSP.

  2. The Vita, like the PSP/PS3, falls JUST short of having enough games to warrant purchase. I'm missing out on a more fluent MHX.

  3. And for reference, this is what the game looks like with Point/Nearest Neighbor scaling.

    Please excuse the framerate.

  4. Also, I don't want to be the Nintenyearold Defense Force, but the 3DS can display DS games in their original resolution if you hold select while launching a title. The same thing applies to the DSiWare games.

  5. Say, isn't it true that the PSP Rockman DASH ports are also available on the Japanese PSN store for the Vita?

  6. Interesting discovery. However, I will point out that, if he's using a PSP-3000 for comparison, the discrepancies in image quality between it and the Vita's screen will be exaggerated for the worse. One of the new features of the 3000 models was a screen whose picture wasn't as bright and whose colors weren't as vivid, I believe to prevent images from being burned into the screen after long-term use. This was a problem with the 2000 models, IIRC. It would be interesting to see additional comparisons.

  7. @K. Mizzle
If this were a contest to pack the most mistakes or misinformation into a single post, the referee would stop the contest and start crying because he would never be able to forget and he would start drinking until his wife and kids leave him.

PSP-3000 has the "PS" Family Logo on the "Home" Button. Also, the area behind and the D-pad itself are concave.

  10. It's nice and all, but I'm not getting a Vita just to re-download a game I already have. Especially since, unlike the 3DS, the Vita is not backwards compatible with the PSP game discs.

Now, if more good games start coming out for the Vita, then that's a different story.

  11. Still on the fence about getting a Vita. It's out where I'm at I just need something more convincing than psp games.

  12. I'm waiting for Wild Arms, Castlevania, and Megaman. But not Lords of Shadow.

Oh, and a cheaper price. I'm not made of money you know.

  13. Does original PSP discs like MHX, MMPU and R.DASH1/2 work on Vita or only the store downloads?
