First Look at X in Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat

As previously reported, X is coming to Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat as a playable Hunter. With the collaboration seemingly set to launch tomorrow, August 6, NebulaJoy has dropped the teaser trailer above, showing X tearing through enemies to the tune of “Devil Trigger.”

To recap, the collaboration brings alternate looks for X, including his classic blue appearance, the “Tribute to the Fallen” skin unlocked through Hunter progression, and the event-based “SE DIVE VER.” skin. He’ll also wield a new weapon, the Sniper Buster.

Elsewhere, players can collect five Mega Man X-themed Runes and take part in a new event called “DiVE Deep,” featuring three story chapters and a showdown with Sigma. A new Boss Hunt opponent and additional limited-time event content are also part of the collaboration.

  1. I really wanna see X playable as a secret character in the next main DMC game as like a fun mode

  2. Well this looks cool. Wish it had been a dlc for DMCV instead. But! I'll try to unlock this anyways when it drops.

    1. The two things aren't mutually exclusive, there's no reason why X can't be in this and also DLC for a DMC game. DMC5 is getting old enough that I'd be surprised if it got new DLC, but if they announce DMC6 it wouldn't be shocking to me if X was added as DLC at some point.

That being said, I feel like Zero would be a better fit. X is a heavily range focused character, Zero makes heavy use of his saber for melee attacks but also has access to his buster and several other ranged special moves. DMC thrives on melee combat, so Zero seems like the natural choice. In a mainline game I'd worry about X potentially leaning too heavily into DMC2 style projectile spam as the go-to strategy that works best. His kit is more suited for something like a Metroid style FPS or an alternate take on a Mega Man Legends style TPS. There's even potential in X7 style gameplay, though it would need heavy reworking and refinement.

    2. Nah, the Zero glazing at Capcom and in the fandom needs to stop. I'm sick and tired of Zero being the face of Mega Man in crossovers, while the actual megamen don't get any representation.

Also, how does X not fit? His buster works as a gun, which Dante and Nero use. Wouldn't Axl work better by this logic? I bet you'd say no cuz Axl hate is so forced in this fandom.

And who's to say they can't add X's close-ranged armors like the Blade and Shadow Armors? What about him wielding a Z-Saber? Be so for real.

    3. I agree that Zero is a better fit, especially if he has access to his other melee weapons besides the Saber. Perhaps Z Zero would fit even better than X Zero...

    4. @Nico I don't have any problem with Axl. He's a fun character to play as in X8 and I enjoy the personality dynamic he brings to the team with X and Zero. Strictly speaking regarding DMC gameplay, his guns would be a better fit as an equivalent to what Dante and Nero use for ranged attacks. I say Zero fits best for the exact reason I described. DMC is fundamentally a melee combat game. Ranged options are available but they're not generally what you are using for your main attacks, the primary combo game happens through melee damage. X is known to occasionally use a saber, but not to the extent that he'd be pulling off strings of melee combos with it. Zero's kit fits this mold the best.

DMC2 gives you the option to just gun spam, and while it does end up being the best way to play it's also incredibly unsatisfying. It gets to the point where I'd rather handicap myself by using melee than put up with the monotony of just spamming the guns on everything, and that's exactly what I fear X (and also Axl to an extent) turning into.

@Chubby_Man_X Both versions of Zero have their own merits. Z Zero has probably the better overall kit between his expanded saber combo options, his various rods, his better buster combo potential, his higher overall movement and attack speed, the Shield Boomerang, and the Z Knuckle. However, X Zero is an absolute powerhouse and I could see him being a lot better for flashy high damage combos that include a bigger variety of ranged attacks. Basically, Z Zero is more of a Dante with combo variety and X Zero is more of a Vergil with a more specialized and high damage kit.

    5. @TimeGear X Zero using D-Glaive and V-Hanger could also be pretty cool in DMC style gameplay. Probably way better than what we got in X7.

  5. Pretty cool ngl... But i feel like this would've fit a little better with volnutt since his gameplay style is 3rd person too... But then again, majority of megaman fans are either classic or x fans, so i get why they chose X.
