Rockman World Prototype Dumped

The Video Game Preservation Blog has obtained an early Rockman World prototype, the very same as Chris Covell's. As anticipated, there are a number of differences from the retail version, the most significant being the layout of a majority of the stages. Some of the graphics appear darker than the final game, too, along with a few pieces of unused music. You can find an in-depth rundown of all the differences here.

To download the proto, head to The Video Game Preservation Blog. Further research and analysis will no doubt take place at The Cutting Room Floor in the coming days. Who knows what neat things we'll find! Stay tuned.

Kotobukiya to Reissue Mega Man Kits in 2015

Back in 2013, Kotobukiya announced the discontinuation of their Mega Man line of model kits, which previously featured classic Mega Man, Roll, Proto Man, and the eponymous Mega Man Zero. Today, it appears they're answering the call for reissues. That's good news for your wallet.

Within the last twenty four hours, a number of online retailers have opened pre-order pages for new Mega Man, Proto Man and Roll kits. Big Bad Toy Store has all three priced at $29.99, slated to ship in February 2015. There's no sign of a Mega Man Zero reissue at the moment, though. Unfortunately that's not too surprising; it's been suggested that it was the lowest selling kit of the four.

If you missed out on these kits before, this is your chance to scoop them up fresh! And who knows? Maybe the line will be revived if they perform well enough. I'm still hankering for that Bass kit.

Thanks for the tip, Roger!

Rockman Xover Gets a New World, OVER-10 Armor

Time for another Rockman Xover update, and this time it's being graced with World 12. Appearing after the fifth Battle Tower event, this world includes all original bosses made for the previous five Battle Towers. In other words, you can fight them all over again.

Successfully completing the world rewards players a new armor: OVER-10. This hefty beasts features 6 slots for Battle Memories and utilizes Bonus Lines with Defense + Attack properties. It also boosts Battle Memories by x1.25. It's a very good balance for all stats and may be considered the best armor so far.

You'll find more images of OVER-10 and World 12 after the jump. Thanks to Nigoli for the tip and assets!

Budget-Friendly Mega Man Hoodie Outed By UK Retail

With the days of cooler fall weather rapidly approaching, it's appropriate a new officially licensed Mega Man hoodie has become available. This budget-friendly ware is currently in stock at various UK based retailers, like Gamerbilia, Amazon UK and Gamer Heaven. International shipping is on the table.

The Mega Man hoodie has proven to be a popular concept over the last couple years, so I'm glad folks have a more inexpensive option now (and it looks good too). As one may recall, Capcom/Volation's previous effort carried a $200+ price tag. If you're short on Zenny, this is the way to go!

Thanks for the tip, Eric.

Rockman Sound Box 2 Announced - The "Everything Else" Collection

Capcom is planning to release a follow up to last year's Rockman Sound Box music collection, 4Gamer reports. Appropriately dubbed Rockman Sound Box 2, the new compilation will contain everything the first set was missing: music from classic series spin-offs and side games.

Whereas the previous set collected music from Rockman 1-10, this one is all about the games in between. Sound Box 2 chronicles all five Game Boy games, Rockman & Forte (both SNES and GBA!), The Wily Wars, Rockman Soccer, The Power Battle, The Power Fighters and more.

The ten disc set is slated to ship in Japan on December 17th, 2014. It goes for 12000 Yen (roughly $110 US). Hit the jump below for the disc-by-disc breakdown!

Last Call to Pre-order Mega Man Helmet Replicas at Discount Price

Due to popular demand, the limited edition Mega Man helmet replicas first shown at Comic-Con are now available to pre-order in the Capcom Store. Until September 26th, you can snag one for the discounted price of $80. After that it goes back up!

The chrome resin statue is 8 inches tall (5 inches wide), roughly the same size as last year's 25th anniversary piece. Similarly, it features USB-powered LED lights with induction power for a much brighter display.

Click here if you would like to pre-order, or just check out some different pics of the statue. It ships November 15th!

Mighty No. 9 Beta - New Stage Available for Backers

The Mighty No. 9 beta version received a brand new update today. Tier 2+ backers can now sample Mighty No. 2's underwater/ice stage. The update brings some additional polish to the core gameplay, too; steadier framerate and faster ledge grabbing, among other tweaks. I noticed Beck's model looks a bit smoother too.

Not a backer? No sweat! Check out the video above for a full walkthrough.

Is Mega Man Powered Up Finally Coming to PSN? (Updated)

Mega Man Powered Up, a re-imagining of the original Mega Man, was released in 2006 for the PSP. In the years to follow, the game has failed to make the digital leap to PlayStation Network. Former Capcom SVP Christian Svennson cited compatibility issues, stating “There are technical problems that neither we or Sony are able to get around. The game doesn’t run properly when put in digital form. So it’s physical only for the time being."

Today, however, there is a renewed chance of hope. Mega Man Powered Up is one among 700 digitally compatible titles for PlayStation TV in Europe. If the listing is correct, Powered Up will be joined by its Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X counterpart on or near the hardware's launch in Europe on November 14th. Powered Up does not, however, appear on the US PS TV titles (though more titles are subject to be added later).

Pending official word from Capcom, this could really go either way. Right now we can't say for certain if this is an early leak or a simple mistake. We will keep you posted nevertheless.

UPDATE: MMPU has been removed from the list. The plot thickens.

Let's Look at the Rockman Xover Art Book

The Capcom Special Selection Rockman Xover art book is now available in Japan. The pages within shed light on many unused OVER-1 designs, including some truly off-the-wall concepts. For example, OVER-C. It's a Cinnamon-cat-thing.

These images were graciously provided by Capcom Unity member MegaModo. I've tossed up a few after the jump. For the rest, scope out this thread here.

Platinum Club Nintendo exclusivity begone! Nintendo 3DS owners in North America can now get their hands on the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS demo. As per usual, you can find it on the Nintendo eShop. It's the same demo offered to Platinum Club Nintendo members -- five playable characters (Mega Man, Mario, Link, Pikachu and Villager) and one arena.

Unlike the Club Nintendo version the public demo is limited to 30 uses. If you want to keep playing beyond that, well, better leave that 3DS permanently switched on.

Super Smash Bros. launches in North America on October 3rd.

Thanks to the gracious donation of Digit Press' Nz17, we have three more Super Smash Bros. 3DS demo download codes to giveaway. Sure, the public demo will be out on Thursday... but wouldn't it be nice to play it early? Of course!

Here's how this is going to work: I will be updating this post three times today with a new code. No need to comment or anything like that - just keep a watchful eye right here. I will be using Twitter to provide clues when the next code will drop. All three codes are restricted to North American 3DS consoles.

Good luck everyone!

Amazon Outs "Sonic/Mega Man: The Complete Epic"

Looking to pick up the complete Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog Worlds Collide crossover in one fell swoop? If a listing at Amazon is to be believed, Archie Comics are readying an all-in-one tome.

"Sonic / Mega Man: Worlds Collide: The Complete Epic" is slated to ship on May 26th, 2015 for $22.49. The 336-page paperback will collect all twelve issues of the Worlds Collide story arc. From start to finish it's all here.

Of note, it looks like this particular product will absorb the previously announced "Deluxe Edition." I'm not fully aware what happened there, but this is certainly the intended collection. It's a bit of a ways away but, hey, it couldn't hurt to slip in a pre-order. If you're new to the comics or just want to add another book to your collection, this one's for you.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will see a release in internationally in a matter of weeks. But of course, there are other ways to enjoy it until then, such as rocking out to some tunes. YouTube has quickly become home to a majority of the game's soundtrack - we'll share with you the four Mega Man pieces. If you don't want to be spoiled, I suggest you move on!

Giveaway: Super Smash Bros. 3DS Demo Code (OVER)

I'm fortunate enough to have one additional Super Smash Bros. 3DS demo code. So if you aren't a platinum Club Nintendo member and you'd like to get your hands on this early preview, listen up.

I'm holding a very easy contest. Simply comment on this post with a valid e-mail address*. That's it. I'll be choosing one winner at random tonight, around 12:00 am CST. This is a North American code, so I'm sorry to say this contest is open only to owners of NA region 3DS consoles.

If anyone has codes valid in EU, I would greatly appreciate a donation. I'd like to hold another giveaway for our friends on the other side of the pond. Any codes I recieve personally from here on out will be used for daily giveaways leading up to the demo's public release this Thursday, September 19.

In the meantime... have at it!

UPDATE: we have a random winner. Congrats to ScottPop!

Mega Man 7 is Available Now on NA Wii U Virtual Console

Surprise! During today's Nintendo Treehouse live stream event, it was announced that Mega Man 7 has launched on the Wii U Virtual Console. Currently available to players in North America, the SNES classic is going for $7.99. This marks the first time the game has been re-released digitally anywhere. Better late than never, right?

Unfortunately, Mega Man 7 is not part of the current Smash Bros. sale on the eShop. You'll be needing to pick this one up at full price.

Super Smash Bros. 3DS - Mega Man Gameplay

To this dismay of everyone outside of Japan, there's a Super Smash Bros. demo available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Sad, I know. So while we wait for an international version, here's some excellent footage of Mega Man in action. You can watch it with envious eyes over and over. It looks great, doesn't it?

With the Nintendo Treehouse stream set for Friday, perhaps we'll have some good news to share. Until then, fingers crossed.

Rockman Set To Invade Japanese Theme Park

Capcom is teaming up with popular amusement park Hanayashiki for a month-long Rockman event dubbed "Rockman: The Schemed for Hanayashiki!?"

Beginning September 13th, park-goers will be treated to Rockman-themed food and activities. The promotional event includes a stamp rally wherein patrons can win nifty prizes (look! A Rockman cartridge eraser). Specially themed postcards will be given away, too, featuring "Rockman x Hanayashiki" collaboration art. Food-wise, well, it's what you'd expect: an entire menu devoted to Rockman dishes. "Cut Man Curry", "Elec Man's Thunderale", "Fire Man's Fire Storm Pot Stickers". The list, for better or worse, goes on.

Check it out after the jump!

Mega Man X5 Arrives on North American PSN Store

Hot off the heels of Mega Man X4, Mega Man X5 is now available to download from the PlayStation Store. The fifth entry in the X series will run $5.99, currently compatible with PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

I wish more could be said about future Mega Man PSN releases, but this is all we'll be receiving for the time being. Capcom USA's Brett Elston did allude to future plans, though Mega Man X6's fate remains uncertain. A post on Capcom Unity implies some legal hurdles to overcome. Specifically, the game's two Japanese songs, "Moon Light" and "The Answer" by Showtaro Morikubo.

We'll keep an ear to the ground, of course. Stay tuned.

Hey, Have Some Mega Man X Corrupted Gameplay

Admittedly, I haven't featured Mega Man X Corrupted here as much as I should have. But today I'm amending that. For your consideration, here's the latest look at the highly anticipated fan-game by JKB Games. We're taking a look at the freshly developed Crystal Raffler stage, complete with music and a number of perils.

For the uninitiated, Corrupted is a flash-based game that has been in development since 2007. Though largely inspired the SNES X titles, the game plays more like a Metroidvania. Previous videos (available to watch any time on JKB's YouTube), show us just how dynamic the world can be. It's far more freeform than anything seen in, say, Mega Man ZX.

If you'd like to learn more about the game, hit up JKB's official Facebook.

Rockman Sound Box Available to Preorder

If your wallets still haven't given up with all the Mega Man goods coming out, you can now preorder the Rockman Sound Box from Amazon Japan (ships internationally). The 10-disc set is a budget version of the 2012 "Sound E-Can" CD collection, sans the actual E-Can. Instead, you get a nice package that complements the Rockman X Sound Box.

Chances are slim to none this will be release elsewhere. However, Capcom recently tossed up a whole bunch of classic series soundtracks on iTunes (digital versions of the Sound E-Can discs). If you're on a budget, I say that's the way to go.

Mega Man X4 Hits PlayStation Network Today

It's been a long time coming, but the PlayStation Network finally has its first Mega Man X release. Mega Man X4 is now available to download for a cool $5.99, playable on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Though the game is currently exclusive to the North American PS Store, anyone can download it you sign up for a U.S account.

Mega Man X5 is up next on September 9th. No word yet on Mega Man X6.

Mighty No. 9 - Online Race Battle Gameplay

In case you missed the PAX panel, here's the Mighty No. 9 "Online Race Battle" segment. This clip has Keiji Inafune squaring off against Inti Creates’ Takuya Aizu. Players compete for score cruxes as they advance through Mighty No. 5's stage.

Who will win? Watch and fin out.

Rockman Xover Battle Tower Delivers Another New Boss

The fourth (and presumably) final member of Nero's inner circle of Rockman Xover baddies has been revealed. The electrically charged "Oro S" now roams the halls of the Battle Tower. The so-called "Maiden of Lightening" is actually the older sister of Verde R. Small word, no?

As per usual, Oro's emergence brings a new piece of music. You can listen to the ripped track here (courtesy of MidniteW). We can assume this will be one of the many pieces headed to the "Capcom Special Selection" Rockman Xover soundtrack.

So with all four bosses revealed, we're left to wonder what the Battle Tower will bring next. Many Xover fans believe this is not the last we'll see of the big four -- a combination, a single boss made up of each member, may be in order.

See The Mighty No. 9 Beta In Action!

Backers of Mighty No. 9 are being treated to a special beta version today. For everyone else, here's some exciting footage to keep your appetites whet. You can check out the ins-and-outs of Mighty No. 5's stage in the video above.

As a reminder, this is only the beginning; additional stages are expected to be added to the beta soon! More news as it arrives.
