Mega Man ZX... Starring Servbot?

Had a lone Servbot wielded the power of Bio Metal X, Mega Man ZX would have been a very different game. Such is the premise for ultimatemaverickx's latest creation, which you can watch above.

Smashing, no? I'd play it.

Happy New Year, folks!

Mighty No. 9's Call Design Finally Decided

To the surprise of no one, design F, by Inti Creates’ Yuuji Natsume, has won the Call vote:

"Call F exits the Battle Colosseum triumphant, as the people cheer her on!! We’d like to say thank you to all the Backers who contributed to making this second vote a great success!
The battle got heated at times, but the Mighty Numbers stayed strong and campaigned through numerous threads to support their favorite Call! We couldn’t have done it without you, and the goodwill and enthusiasm surrounding this Poll! Thank you, Mighty Beckers!"

Call H placed 3rd with 15.47% of the vote, while Call E placed 2nd with 41.14%.

Well, that's that. What's your take on the results?

Mega Man Board Game Seeing International Release

We weren't too sure this was going to happen, but it looks like Jasco pulled through. Mega Man: The Board game is headed to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. The good word comes directly from Jasco:

"Mark your calendars: International pledges begin December 30th for people in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East!

In fairness to people in those territories, we will be celebrating the good news with a special International Early Bird pledge level on Monday, December 30th for 24 hours starting at 14:00 GMT."

As a reminder, the "early bird" pledge nabs you a copy of the game for a discount. I suspect pricing details will be available shortly. Head to the game's Kickstarter for additional details.

Thanks for the tip, Emmanuel.

It doesn't look like Big Bad Toystore will carry these particular figures. However, they are loading up on a few others. Check those out here.

The Next Mega Man D-Arts Is...?

On Rockman Unity, Ucchy is continuing to tease the Christmas surprise. After spending a night playing with his D-Arts Zero toys, Ucchy fell asleep and awoke to find an ambiguous message in his stocking. It reads: "What if you regret making me a poseable figure..."

Ooh, chilling. What sort of Mega Man character would say such a thing?

After consulting my colleagues on Twitter, we've deduced Mega Man Zero series Zero is the next D-Arts figure from Bandai. The line in Ucchy's card, apparently, is a play on one of Zero's quotes, "What if you regret making me remember" (or something along those lines). I believe it's from one of the games' commercials.

More details are expected to bubble up soon. Are you ready for a fourth D-Arts Zero figure?

The crew whipped up an 8-bit remix of "Your Wind is Blowing." Mega Man Legends composer Makoto Tomozawa is composing a few tracks too, so that should be interesting.

20 Years of Mega Man X

Well, what do you know! It's December 17th. Today marks the 20th anniversary of the Mega Man X series. This day, two decades ago, began the long and fruitful journey of the first Mega Man subseries. Since then, Mega Man X has seen eleven games, expanded into comics and manga, and launched a heaping ton of merchandise. Though the series has been largely dormant since 2005's Maverick Hunter X, it has remained an enduring brand, living on in the hearts of the fandom.

So how are we celebrating such a milestone? Capcom, for one, just released the 12-disc Rockman X Sound Box collection. It's loaded with music, comes with a neat little booklet, and even includes at least one unused piece from the original Mega Man X. I, for one, can't wait to hear it.

Rockman X2: Soul Eraser is headed to the eShop in Japan next week. It joins its predecessor, Cyber Mission, for a mere 600 Yen. Lastly, there's a new X-themed world out for Xover. Nothing truly significant here other than an appearance by Dynamo. He's the boss, naturally.

That's pretty much all there is going on officially. When we'll hear the true return of Mega Man X, I have no idea. In the meantime, though, I remain thankful for what we've got. If anything, just remember that Mega Man X has not made it 20 years because of nothing. It's made it this far because of you. You, the Mega Man faithful, deserve some credit too. So thank you!

Mega Man Xtreme 2 Slated for Japan eShop Next Week

Owners of the 3DS in Japan will be able to download Mega Man Xtreme 2 (aka Rockman X2: Soul Eraser) next week on the 25th. It will run for 600 Yen.

And with that, all previous announced Game Boy/Game Boy Color Mega Man titles are off the burner and out the door in Japan. The US and Europe? Ha, who knows. I was really hoping we'd see another one before the end of the year... we'll see, I guess.

And as for you, Nintendo, get Game Boy Advance emulation up and running. I think most of us would appreciate another shot at all those GBA Mega Man titles.

So Yeah, Mega Man is 26-Years Old Today

So here we are: day one of Mega Man's 26th anniversary. The 25th anniversary festivities are now at an end, according to Rockman Unity. The bash is going out not with a bang but a whimper, it seems. There's a small 25th ann. Rockman Xover promo event wrapping up and a new Rockman X-themed special world honoring the series' 20th anniversary (which just so happens to be tomorrow, December 18th). It's available now.

Anything else? Well there's a nice piece of Roll Caskett anniversary art from the Sound Rangers team. All PSP Rockman titles have been discounted to 800 Yen on the JPN PlayStation Network. Additionally, the Rockman X Sound Box is hours away from release. That's going to be pretty sweet, right?

Oh, there is one last thing. The very last picture in Rockman Unity's post shows Ucchy holding a piece of paper which promises something for "good children" on Christmas Day. Personally, I would not expect much. At the rate things have been going, it's most likely something Xover-related. Maybe Christmas battle memory cards (like this) or some promo event thing. I could be wrong... but honestly, I'm not feeling terribly optimistic.

Well, here's to another year. At least we can look forward to Smash Bros., among other things.

Mega Man X and Wily's Revenge On Sale For $2 On US eShop

Have a couple of bucks to spare? Nintendo announced Mega Man X and Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge are on sale for $2 on the US Nintendo eShop through December 18 at 8:59 am PST. Mega Man X is normally available for $7.99, while Dr. Wily's Revenge goes for $3.99 on 3DS.

The sale is part of a special "2 Games, 2 Dollars each, 2 Days" promotion, which seems to imply more games will be discounted after the Mega Man sale expires. Hey, might be something to keep an ear out for.

If you haven't purchased these games already, now is definitely the time. Wednesday, the 18th will be here before you know it!

Marvel vs. Capcom Titles Being Pulled From Xbox Live And PSN

Here's a bit of curious news out of Capcom today. The company have announced that both Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 are going to be pulled from Xbox Live and PlayStation Network stores. Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, however, is in the clear.

The last day these games and their respective DLC is December 26th on Xbox Live, December 17th on PSN in North America, and December 19th on PSN in Europe. If you've already purchased these games, you may continue to download them beyond these dates. Also of note, a half-off sale on all DLC is being offered on PSN. Discounts on Xbox Live content will be offered in the near future.

Capcom have not said why the two games are being removed. However, it is largely speculated that Capcom's Marvel license may soon expire. In any case, we'll keep an eye on Capcom Unity for more news.

25th Anniversary Mega Man Statue Returning This Month

Later this month, the 25th Anniversary Mega Man statue is being reissued through Big Bad Toystore and Entertainment Earth for $124.99. Pre-orders are now live on both sites.

For the uninitiated, the 10-inch statue features USB-powered LED lights on the base, helmet, and Mega Buster. Each one from the Capcom Store were individually numbered as part of its "limited availability." No telling how limited this run will be, though. If you missed out on the statue the last time, you'd be wise to put in a pre-order soon.

Check Out This Insane Mega Man Toy Collection

It's a sea of plastic and dazzling colors. This, friends, is but a small morsel of Watchapol's massive Mega Man toy collection. Action figures, gashapons, model kits, board games, playsets. It's ginormous.

There's plenty more to see at Watchapol's Flickr page. The gallery is loaded with over 500 photos of stuff. The photography is neat in its own right, too. Watchapol's recreated scenes from various games, among other things.

Seriously, I am blue with envy here.

New Rockman X Sound Box Details

Over on Rockman Unity, Ucchy brings us a sneak peek of the Rockman X Sound Box, the all-new Mega Man X soundtrack compilation. Ucchy confirms the 12-disc set will feature a total of 490 pieces from the entire X series, including the likes of Command Mission, Xtreme and Xtreme 2, and Maverick Hunter X. The complete tracklist is now available at e-Capcom.

The e-Capcom page reveals even more music goodness.  First, we are now able to confirm that both the SNES and PSX versions of Rockman X3's soundtrack will be featured. Second, Capcom is throwing in tracks from rare Rockman X8 Special Sound CD (according to Ucchy, they had a bit of trouble hunting the source for this guy down!). Lastly, Capcom is packing in unused music from X1 on the 12th disc. It's a single track, but it's bound to be interesting.

The Sound Box is still on track to release December 18th for ¥12,600 (roughly $129 US). Although it's currently a Japanese exclusive, CD Japan is prepping stock for importers. Might be expensive, but it's definitely turning out to be quite the collection!

Mega Man Xtreme Hitting Japan 3DS eShop Next Week

Owners of the Nintendo 3DS in Japan will be able to download Mega Man Xtreme (otherwise known as Rockman X: Cyber Mission) next week on December 4th. The game will run for the typical Game Boy Color price of ¥600.

This would mark the first time Xtreme has been made available to download. Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect to see this on our shores before the Classic Game Boy titles finish their run. Whenever that will be.

At this rate, though, it seems all but certain Xtreme 2 will be hitting Japan in January. What comes after that? Who knows...

Rockman Xover Update Brings EX World 1, Strongest Armor Yet

The time has come for another Rockman Xover update. This update brings the new EX World 1 stage, which is a more challenging version of World 1 with the same bosses. To obtain the EX World, simply defeat all World 1 bosses at Level 8.

Furthermore, OVER-1 is getting a new armor. Dubbed OVER-2 Spec 2, it's currently the most powerful armor in the game, rendering previous armors obsolete. I guess it's safe to assume Spec 2 models of previous armors will be along some time. Hit up Capcom Unity for more images.

Thanks, Django!

Mega Man 1 Soundtrack Gets the VRC6 Treatment

RushJet1, composer of the fantastic "cover playthrough" for Mega Man 3, has returned. This time he's rearranged Mega Man 1's soundtrack with added stereo and VRC6 effects. Developed by Konami, the VRC6 chip added three additional sound channels to the typical NES's four. Apply it to Mega Man's soundtrack and, well, you've got magic.

The above video is a complete gameplay run of Mega Man using the new soundtrack. You can listen to or purchase it from Bandcamp as well. If you're a fan of Mega Man music (or chiptune in general), you can't go wrong here.

PocketStation is Back on Vita, Rockman Complete Works Compatible

Sony Computer Entertainment recently teased the return of the PocketStation, and today they delivered. The PocketStation, a memory card peripheral which acted much like the Dreamcast's VMU cards, is back as a free app for PlayStation Vita. At present, it's only available to PS Plus users in Japan.

Why is this Mega Man-related? As you may well already know, the original PlayStation saw numerous Rockman releases in Japan which never made their way stateside, and among those releases were the six Rockman Complete Works titles. Used in conjunction with the later Complete Works games, players could send their Blue Bomber to the PocketStation and train him on-the-go in a mode dubbed "Pock Rock." By completing various micro-games, Rockman would be awarded with additional max health, increased running speed, and a more powerful buster. Alternatively, the PocketStation could increase the stats of the Robot Masters in the games so that they would offer a more significant challenge.

Among other titles, the Vita PocketStation app will work with the PSN versions of Rockman 1-6. Unfortunately there's no word on a worldwide release. However, the original peripheral did work with some compatible English titles... so maybe we shouldn't count it out yet? We'll keep an ear out, I suppose.

It's really too bad The Misadventures of Tron Bonne isn't on PSN -- those PockeStation minigames are amazingly adorable.

Razer Unveils Mega Man Gaming Mouse Mat

If you're in the market for a new gaming mouse mat you might want to check out Razer's latest offering. The company is rolling out an officially licensed, limited edition Mega Man mat designed for comfort play and seamless mouse gliding. It's available for pre-order here.

So... Mega Man 10 is an interesting image choice. I mean, the game isn't available on PC. It really should be, but it isn't. I like to imagine PC ports of MM9 and MM10 were among topics discussed by those "top men"... but alas, it's not to be.

Think of this as compensation, I guess.

Mega Man Series Reaches 30 Million Copies Sold

Today, Capcom posted revised lifetime sales figures for many of its franchises. According to the numbers, the Mega Man series has sold 30 million units as of September 2013. Since 1987, 131 Mega Man games have been released. Mega Man continues to rank as Capcom's third best-selling franchise, right behind Street Fighter and Resident Evil.

On the whole, Mega Man is up one million units since 2011. Given that few new games released since then, the boost is probably attributed to digital re-releases of older titles. Free-to-play Rockman Xover and Street Fighter X Mega Man, million sellers in their own right, appear to be non-factor.

You can read additional data at Capcom's Investor Relation page here.

Rockman World 5 Hits 3DS in Japan Next Week

The fifth and final entry in the Rockman World sub-series is hitting Japan next week. On Novembmer 6th, Nintendo 3DS users can download Rockman World 5 from the Nintendo eShop for 400 Yen.

Jealous? Oh yes indeed. As we've come to learn, there's not much Capcom can do to get these titles in the west any quicker. The wheels are turning, but it's ultimately up to Nintendo to decide when the games will drop.

I suppose Japan can look forward to the first Xtreme title next.

Thanks for the tip, Eric!

Jasco Unveils Proto Man Mini Figure (Mega Man Board Game)

This prototype Proto Man mini figure comes from Jasco Games, makers of the official Mega Man Board Game. The figure is an example of what additional funding can yield when the game's Kickstarter launches later this week.

As a friendly reminder, the Kickstarter is not for greenlighting the game, but raising money for additional content, extras, and higher quality components. The board game will be made and sold at retail regardless of the Kickstarter's success or failure.

For more details, hit up the Mega Man Board Game on Facebook and Twitter. More news soon!

Complete Ruby-Spears Mega Man Collection Dated for Australia

Madman Entertainment's online store has outed the Australian release date for the complete Mega Man animated series box set. The 3-disc set is due out on December 4th, priced at $49.95. And yes, that is the final box art. It's an uncanny throwback to the less-than-stellar PAL Mega Man covers of the mid-2000's.

No special features or extras. For the most part this is a bare-bones reprint of the 2004 set. Discotek Media will be handling the set's North American release, slated for 2014. More news on that front soon.

Stop-Motion Mega Man Invades the Real World

Here is an incredible stop-motion animation by Zach King, also known as “FinalCutKing” on YouTube. It features a rather jerkish Mega Man going around turning everyday objects into tiles. No mercy.

According to King, roughly 10,000 photos and 1,000 individual tiles were used to create the video. That's pretty dang impressive. Give it a watch, fellas!

Figuarts ZERO Sigma Shipping From Amazon Today

If you pre-ordered Bandai's Figuarts ZERO Sigma from Amazon, you might want to keep an eye out for the mail man. According to Destructoid's Chris Carter, Amazon has started letting customers know that the statue is shipping out. With any luck, you might have him in the next few days!

Of note, Amazon's page is still asking for pre-orders. But don't worry; if you place an order now, there's a strong possibility it will ship relatively quickly. I'm not an Amazon buyer this time around, but I'll keep an ear out for updates.

Capcom 30th Anniversary Goods Include Mega Man-Felynes

To commemorate Capcom's 30th anniversary, Monster Hunter Felynes will be appearing as plushies in the form of iconic Capcom characters courtesy of Ichiban Kuji. The usual suspects are accounted for such as Morrigan, Chun-li and good 'ol Mega Man. It's kinda cute, no?

Ichiban Kuji are also reportedly working with Capcom to produce a limited edition Mega Man-Felyne figurine. It may look a tad creepy now, but I'm sure it will turn out nice once images of the final coating bubble up. I hope so, at least.

No word yet on release dates for these these items let alone availability overseas. You're best bet may turn out to be eBay.

Inafune Would Be Happy To Make A Spiritual Mega Man Legends Successor

As promised, here's Rashed's interview with Keiji Inafune from the IGN convention in Bahrain. Due to limited time, he was only able to ask Inafune three questions. Nevertheless, Rashed managed to pop the big one: now that we've seen Mighty No. 9, do you think we'll see a Mega Man Legends spiritual successor?

Inafune happily answered the query, speaking through his translator:

"Yes, he would really like to make Mega Man Legends, it's one of his favorite games. He'd like to but he can't at the moment. If he could make a game like it he would be very happy. Like this current Kickstarter, if he was able to do something like that, make a Kickstarter, get people to back it and use that funding source to make a game like that he'd be happy to do it."

In all, this is a juicy tidbit if you're a fan of the series. Mind you, Inafune's house is currently hard at work developing Mighty No. 9, among other projects. I think it would be quite a while before we see a second Kickstarter. But hey, you never know.

Last Call for Post-Kickstarter Mighty No. 9 Digital Rewards

As discussed in an earlier update, Comcept has continued to offer all digital Mighty No. 9 rewards beyond the Kickstarter campaign via PayPal for a limited time. However, that limited time is just about to reach its end. Comcept has announced they will be ending the sale of the PayPal digital rewards this Monday, October 21st, at 9:09 pm PDT.

It's hard to say if any of the goods will return after the 21st. Even if they did though, Comcept says it wouldn’t be at these cheaper, Kickstarter-bundle-level prices. In other words, you might want to get a move on soon. Monday will be here before you know it!

For more details, check out all the digitial rewards currently being offered at the official Mighty No. 9 PayPal page.
