Rockman EXE: Programs of Light and Darkness Movie to Stream on YouTube April 7th

More fun news, EXE crew! For the first time ever, the Rockman EXE theatrical movie, Rockman EXE: Programs of Light and Darkness, will stream for free on Capcom Japan's YouTube channel on April 7th. The stream kicks off at 21:00 JST.

It's currently unknown whether English subtitles will be available. The movie was never distributed outside of Japan, primarily due to the lack of an NT Warrior equivalent to Rockman EXE Stream. While fan-subs have been around for some time, an official release with subtitles would be highly appreciated by many.

We'll keep you posted if anything pops up. Stay tuned!

And thankful for those fansubs. They are more accurate than any subtitle Capcom will provide because Capcom will insert localization terms into the subs rather than giving 100% of the Japanese experience, which also helps to educate viewers. The term "official sub" means nothing but being the rights holder. Fansubs are more official because they don't have company agenda's.

    1. you're never going to get the "100% japanese experience" unless you're speaking japanese to begin with. and even then, the experience of someone learning a different language is different from someone watching something in their native language.
And generally speaking (not for Mega Man english sub/dub in general, Mega Man NT warriors had it's flaws ), translating a Japanese term into a equivalent in the language is closer to the intended experience: When a japanese creator put a name with a pun, or meaning, in Japanese intended for a japanese speaking viewer, the best way to replicate the intended effect, the "experience", for a english speaking viewer watching/reading something in english is to have a word in english. Not in all cases. but most of the time.
And that's not getting into the largely varying quality of fansubs in general. or the occasional revisionist fansub. A fansubber agenda is not better than a Company's. If anything, with the Company being the creator of the work -with exception of when the foreign branch of a company is completely ignoring or even conflicting with the original language brach- they are the most suited to decide what is closest to the intended experience.
That isn't to say official localisation are always better, especially when it's just a company licensing a foreign product rather than a international company doing it's own localisations, but it's false to pretend that fansubs are always better.

    3. Not gonna lie: I watched all 56 episodes of the original series, but lost interest after the 12th episode of Axess (Cross Fusion was fun, but Dark Chips wasn't) and not playing Battle Network past the 3rd game was part of the reason. I know I watched this movie way back when, and yet I can't remember anything except the climatic battle involving Rockman & Forte (no pun intended). Twelve years after I finally played 4, 5, & 6 in 2010, I find myself forgetting almost all of 4, half of 5, yet recall many moments from 6. With the recent airing of Axess & Stream, I now have the chance to catch up on what I miss and perhaps I'll be able to appreciate the movie more when I watch it again.
By the way,the Translation Notes for the Sailor Moon manga states at the end of every volume that "Japanese is a tricky language for most Westerners, and translation is often more art than science." If you need prove, I still have the discs for the old AnimeHaven & Wolf Pack Productions fansubs of Rockman.EXE where one had Masa's super hero name as Commander V and the other as Commander Beef.

    4. I'll never understand subtitles that change words I can clearly here a Japanese speaker say in English...

    6. 'Commander Beef' sounds wack for a name.

    7. I can't say how much I care for a 100% Japanese experience, but CAPCOM's translation work on the series games has been abominably bad for a very, very long time. This isn't just the obvious examples: even games that barely have a story like 6, X2, X3 or Xtreme 2 had horrible localization, from typos to mistranslation and outright removing things and adding ones that weren't in the original (hello to X2's prophecy and 7's DIE WILY), I think it really is true that CAPCOM isn't very trustworthy in terms of translation. Who knows, maybe they'll do better this time around.

Nope, they could just add a note explaining what it means and that there's no English equivalent just like fansubbers do. If anything I've seen even some official translations do this. "The best way, Most of the time" According to who?

Except there're cases where the main branch of the company mistranslates dialogue causing some unintentional or intentional revisionism. Both can push agendas but fansubbers tend to avoid them with some exceptions. Fansubbers also tend to fix mistakes if they are reported and that alone should make people choose fansubs over official subs. So yes, fansubs are better than official subs.
