Mega Man and Roll Costumes Coming to Breath of Fire 6

For better or worse, Breath of Fire 6 is nearing launch. The long-awaited sixth entry is slated to hit PC, Android and iOS in Japan on February 23rd. Soon after, players will be able to acquire a slew of Capcom character-themed avatar attire. The campaign will extend to the Mega Man franchise, with costumes based on Mega Man and Roll (in her Mega Man 8 duds). More images are available at Gamer.

I never thought I'd see the day Mega Man would be referenced so blatantly in BoF. Indeed, Breath of Fire 6 is very different than any long-time fan would have expected. The game uses a service-based business model, designed to generate revenue for a long period of time. Creating content based on other IPs, such as Mega Man, ensures a steady cash flow. I would not be surprised if we saw more Mega Man content where it doesn't belong.

  1. Coming to what!? Oh you probably meant mobile abomination 6, it's OK though looking at the title used incorrectly associated with it most of the time gives people who where never fans of the series an impression leading them to make that mistake.

  2. Although not as blatant, one of Karin's alternate costumes in Street Fighter V is a pretty close match for Roll! The Mega Man Network reported on this last month, via Vhyper1985 and other sources, apparently, but I actually saw it at Shoryuken.com, myself.

Anyway, she has Mary Janes, a knee-length dress, and a ribbon in this outfit. The collar on the dress is ever-so-slightly different and the Mary Janes have high heels... but I'm willing to put money on the fact someone at Capcom had Roll in mind when they were coming up with palettes for that outfit, seeing as one palette has her with a green ribbon and red dress and shoes. And for that, I am very appreciative, since I kinda like Karin anyway!

    1. That's because they're costumes. The body is the BoF6 avatar.

    2. Mega Man wasn't chubby in MM8 and MM&B, so the chubby design is likely just an artstyle thing.

    3. Blame Akira Toriyama for that. He tended to draw his characters as chubby kids before Dragon Ball Z.

    4. Oh, ok. Thank you, Protodude and Anonymous #1. Anonymous #2, really ? I thought the creator of Megaman did that before Akira Toriyama for a manga.

    5. Why do you have to blame Akira for anything? I swear the MM community can't go 2 seconds without saying *insert here* inspired Mega Man.

What if Keiji and the original designers of MM as well as Akira drew inspiration from the same thing, like old Disney cartoons, arbitrary objects or simply have a coincidental style? Now people are gonna start spreading rumors about how much Dr Slump or Dragon Ball inspired MM and that MM was originally suppose to be a female robot but the creators changed it to male because it was too close to Arale, the 8 Robot Masters were suppose to rep the 7 Dragon Balls but they added one to make it even for the Rock Paper Scissors theme or some jazz, till some random creators just says *yeah yeah it was inspired by DS/DB I get it*.

    6. I'm starting to get the feeling that younger MegaMan fans have never heard of Astro Boy...

    7. ^Astro Boy is the specific thing people nowadays jump first into comparing with MM wth are you talking about? Just cause this one time people didn't say *hey you know Mega Man's artstyle, that was astro boy inspired too* means people never heard of Astro Boy?

    8. @Protodude: I guess the female avatar had to strap her breasts down for the Roll costume, and both had to where lifts for every character but Rock&Roll. Since you say "the body" I won't mention the eye augmentations.
