Rockman X3 Prototype Footage Surfaces

YouTuber Steven Seventyeight has secured an early Rockman X3 prototype. The build is dated August 23rd, 1995; four months before the game's December release.

While not terribly earth shattering, we can see a number of small aesthetic differences. The intro cutscene is missing background effects, Blizzard Buffalo's stage has a slightly different background, and the stage select is missing a few key visuals. Keen-eyed fans may spot even more!

As we've come to learn, Mega Man prototypes often hide even more interesting differences inside the data. Hopefully it won't be too long before this gets dumped! We'll keep you posted.

  2. The way he slams the cartridge into the console, I'd be surprised if it lasted long enough to get dumped!

Really though, it's nice to see that this was discovered. Keep us updated!

  3. Just from the 15 minutes of footage, I could see a bunch of differences in the intro stage and in Zero. And according to Steven, the data is already dumped and on his computer. Maybe if we're super-nice, he'll let the fans or the usual prototype sites take a peek at it. I just hope people don't pop in and demand it. I can't imagine that cart was cheap...

  4. Something I noticed right off the bat is that the title screen menu is devoid of any sound effects.
Unlike X1 and X2, X3 has a sound effect when you navigate through the menu's items; and it's absent in this prototype.

  5. Ive never seen someone so bad at mega man before, its almost painful to watch him jump into every enemy and bullet. That said, cool find.

    1. Read the youtube. He talked to this person and this person said yes that he already dumped to the computer. After that, he is quiet and didnt say anything to Protodude. @_@

    2. Is anyone going to propose him a fundraiser for getting it out or buy his prototype?

  7. Hey folks, I'm still negotiating with the owner for a dump. There's a good chance we can have it... but it will cost us. Might start a fundraiser.

    2. Fundraisers are all well and good, but I'm afraid that if someone knows there will be multiple people paying they will be emboldened to ask for even more for just the ROM data (or even the cart itself). Future proto dumps or cart sales from the series will be expected to command at least as much, guaranteeing a series of pricey protos. Not to mention that if other Rockman proto owners find out they too will expect a similarly large donation for their ROMs.

No recent sale of an undumped Rockman X series proto cartridge (not just the data) that I know of has cleared much more than a thousand at open auction. If the funds needed for just the data have to be any more than only a few hundred that honestly sounds like a very questionable deal.

  8. The owner of this prototype has uploade more videos with a lot of changes. In this video we can see the door in the roof of the Blast Hornet Stage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJKE2Sdadf0
