Tron Bonne, Rockman 8 and More Coming to JPN PSN

Just in time for the franchise's 27th anniversary, Capcom Japan is rolling out not one but five PlayStation Rockman classics on PlayStation Network. Rockman 8, Rockman Battle & Chase, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Rockman X4 and Rockman X5 are all due on December 17th. You read that right. Tron Bonne on PSN. Hallelujah.

Here in the U.S we have X4 and X5. It'd be great to see Tron Bonne, Mega Man 8 and even Battle & Chase on PSN. Pending official word from Capcom, though, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

The good news is you can buy these titles even if you don't live in Japan. Simply create a Japanese PSN account and secure some Yen via a Japanese PlayStation Network Card. You can get these from sites like Play Asia. Most will email you the code quickly and directly so you won't even need to wait for the mailman.

We'll keep an ear to the ground. Hope to hear more soon!

    1. Legends 1 and Legends 2 are on PSN as PSP classics.

The PS1 versions can't be released due to apparent licensing issues, like the 'YAG' building in Uptwon (removed in PSP version).

    2. Oh. Thanks for letting me know.

    3. Probably the biggest reason they aren't releasing them on the U.S. PSN is because the voice actor of Tiesel (Robert Smith) was arrested back and sentenced to 20 months in prison in 2008 for selling child pornography. I don't think Capcom wants to affiliate their games with a pedophile like him (I understand it is a re-release, but regardless people would not take to kindly to the guy getting paid for his VA work).

    4. What is up with Legends and pedophiles?

    5. Uh, where did you hear that, and are you positive it's the same guy? Robert Smith isn't exactly an uncommon name.

      It's indeed him.

  3. Oh god, it's already the 27th anniversary? I still remember how the 25th was supposed to be special and then just kind of fizzled out.

    1. Other than the special soundtracks, the 25th anniversary was extremely weak. No announcements, nothing.

  4. Battle and Chase and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne...
I never thought I'd see the day, even if they are only available on the Japanese PSN.
Capcom is digging out the obscure titles. Gotta love it. After all, those are the ones that need to be re-released.

    1. 613 Yen I believe is the normal price now for PSOne downloads. It used to be 600 Yen, I think it's either the tax rates or the value of each yen going up in the market.

    2. thanks! decided to pick up a 1000 yen card since i still have 400 yen in my account.

    3. Sorry. I screwed up. It was 617 Yen. :\

Solaris Japan is also another place you can go for these for cheaper pricing. But there's some wait time and needs a NeoGAF account or FaceBook verification for first time users.

    4. they have the best competitive price for JPN PSN, but too bad they don't sell any 1000 yen cards. i only plan on buying Tron Bonne and Battle and Chase, so I got a 1000 yen on ebay for about $12.50.

  6. Finally! I've been waiting for X4 and X5 for a few months now on my master PSN account. Good thing I had 2,000 Yen left over.

They recently released the Street Fighter Zero PSX ports all at once on Japanese PSN for the Street Fighter 5 announcement I think. This is a great alternative to spend money on if don't like those inferior ports of those games.

  7. If you buy a PSP game on the Japanese PSN, how can you play the game in the U.S.?

    1. you have to sign in/link with your japanese psn account on your psp. but the psp only allows 1 account sign in, so you'll have to reset it each time you change region.
