Get Your Mega Man Betas/Protos/Trials Here

As requested, I'm re-uploading every single pre-release Mega Man game I've dumped. This time, though, I'm giving you direct access to (what I hope will be) a regularly updated Dropbox. Inside you'll not only find my prototypes, betas and so forth, but all other publicly available dumps, too.

The Dropbox, available right here, includes the following files:

  • Rockman 7 sample version
  • Rockman 8 prototype version 1 and version 2
  • Rockman Battle & Fighters demo version
  • Mega Man: The Power Battle - SAMPLE version
  • Rockman NEO (Biohazard 2 trial edition)
  • Rockman DASH "Capcom Friendly Club" trial
  • Rockman DASH Digest Edition
  • Rockman DASH 2 - Episode 1 - Save Roll!
  • Mega Man Legends 2 debug prototype
  • Misadventures of Tron Bonne debug prototype
  • Rockman X4 sample version
  • Rockman X5 preview version
  • Rockman X6 prototype
  • Rockman X7 demo version
  • Mega Man X Command Mission E3 2004 version

Download what you want, whenever you want. I will be providing a button for quick access to the files on right sidebar soon (right under the Legends 3 campaign button). New prototypes, when they become available, will be hosted on Dropbox. Future releases will coincide with a post right here on the blog so you'll never be out of the loop!

Anyone with an interest in the development history of these games, I invite you hit up the Cutting Room Floor and contribute to the research scene. The Mega Man articles are ever growing, brimming with all kinds of neat finds. Help is very much appreciated!

It's paramount to digitally preserve prototypes so that they can be kept safe for the years ahead. If you're an owner of a prototype or the like, know that I'm in the market.

  1. Hey Protodude, you think you could tell me how you got into ripping game data? You may think that's an odd, trollish question, but I'm actually curious. If you'd rather not say that's cool too.

  3. i guess we might get our hands on the canned version of MML3 since the game was near completion before capcom cancelled the game. i'm not making this up. the studio who worked with development team said the game was so close of being finished. look at this interview at last question http://www.siliconera.com/2014/05/26/adapt-japanese-game-english-voiceovers/

    1. Silly question. If Protodude knew it wasn't safe to download those then he wouldn't do that, would he ? Really silly, Arata!

      Protodude, good job!

  7. Does anyone know how to actually catch the pigs in "Rockman DASH 2 Episode 1 - Capture Pigs"? I'm not able to bring them back to Shu?

    1. You need to slow approach them from behind (so they don't see you) and use either the action or lift button. If you run or walk in front of them, they will run away scared.

  8. Mega Man X4 was originally suppose to have the following bosses:
    Web Spider
    Split Mushroom
    Cyber Coyote
    Magma Dragoon
    Ice Runner
    Duel Beast
    Shield Panther
    Reploid Commander

The ultimate armor was removed right before release, you use to be able to get it after defeating all the bosses. They later added it as a cheat.

    1. There was also a "demo" type version (can't recall the actual version tag) of the Rockman Power Battle (CPS1, not CPS2) PCB that went up for auction on Yahoo Japan Auctions a few years back. I thought strongly about picking it up, but opted out. Different version was displayed upon boot up, but who knows if any game data was different. Now I sorta regret not picking it up :(

    2. How do I use it? The emulators I tried either don't identify it or say it can't be used, including MAME.

Rockman 3 Beta Japanese version (NOT US version of Mega Man 3 Prototype like Glitch)
Rockman 4 Prototype (like Sub-boss Sphinx in Pharaoh Man's Stage)
Mega Man 6 Sample (Screenshot Title Screen "MEGA MAN VI SAMPLE" from Nintendo Power)
Rockman World 1 Prototype for GB (download link is removed from disgruntleddesigner(dot)com)
