Mega Man Xtreme Blasts To Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console

By popular vote, Mega Man Xtreme is the first game out the gate for Capcom and Nintendo's "Mega May" event. The Game Boy classic is now available on the North American 3DS eShop for $4.99. As for the rest of the lot, here's release schedule:

  • Mega Man II (5/8)
  • Mega Man III (5/8)
  • Mega Man IV (5/15)
  • Mega Man V (5/22)
  • Mega Man Xtreme 2 (5/29)

So yeah, that's pretty much all there is to say at this point. I may even look into getting some download codes for the occasion. Who doesn't like free stuff?

  1. This is the game people voted for? Really?

Not even the sequel which actually had new content?

    1. You mean the game coming out later this month?

  2. Ooh, I was just lamenting the fact that my old Xtreme cartridge died! I turned it into an awesome flash drive, but it'll be nice to be able to play again.

Yeaaaaah... suuuuureeee... V and Xtreme 2 were the worst rated...

What… What am I fighting for?!

    1. It was a vote to decide which would be released first. Nowhere does it say the results would affect the release schedule beyond the first title.

  4. How many of you noticed that they pulled the ol' switcheroo on the banner? Strangely, it had to do with Mega Man again. On the eShop, Mega May was first advertised with the artwork of Mega Man from Mega Man 10. Shortly after, they replaced him with X.

The last time they did this, was with the use of the infamous bad Mega Man box art as the banner for the first game. A little while after that, they changed it to what it is now.

Speaking of the game released, though, I'm definitely going to buy it. I always borrowed a copy from my brothers, but this would be the first time I've ever owned it.

    1. ::raises hand up::..... Hey, it was the first game I ever played when I finally got to own a gameboy; it was the color version, but still it was what I always wanted since it came and couldn't get until high school in 2000. Besides, isn't it fun to play half the game the first time, the other half the second time, & finally play through it all on Xtreme Mode?

  6. Weren`t MM5 and Xtreme 2 winning earlier. This order seems backwards to what the votes would be.

    1. Yeah, I thought for sure that those two would end up winning, as well. One part of me is a bit disappointed with this turn of events, since Xtreme 2 and Mega Man V were the ones I was looking forward to the most, but another part of me would have preferred the games to be released chronologically.

    2. They ended up hiding the votes later on in the poll.

I honestly think they threw them out because they knew if the didn't release the bad ones first they wouldn't sell.

    3. I agree they saved the better games for last. MM2 is the worst MM on GB game ever.

  7. It might be disappointing but it does make sense. Why put out the sequel to a game without having the original out first? (Again, not saying it doesn't make sense with voting, etc) Plus, in the grand scheme of things, you'll have a more linear progression by having the games up in order.

Either way, we're still getting 6 games up in a month's time which is a lot more than we've been getting lately.

@Protodude - If you do get promo codes, that would make a pretty neat giveaway as well, so here's hoping!

  8. Some of you don't seem to realize, the vote was only to determine what was released FIRST, not the overall order of the releases. The order was ALWAYS going to be II - III - IV - V - Xtreme - Xtreme 2 (With whoever won obviously going first)

I was really hoping it'd be literally anything but the first Xtreme...

  9. I know a lot of people are in disbelief that Xtreme won, but prior to the results being made hidden, Xtreme really was leading and it would seem that never changed. Do keep in mind that a lot of the people voting have never actually played these games before and likely voted for Xtreme because it was the first of the two X games.

  10. As other people have said, it seriously seems like they took the most wanted list and flipped it directly upside down. I'm baffled. Were we actually voting for which games would be released last?

I do like free stuff! :D

  12. While I'm glad that the X series is getting a 3DS release, it's rather disappointing that Xtreme 2 wasn't published first. It's clearly the better game with Zero being a playable character, the extreme difficulty setting, and the boss rush mode. I guess we'll just have to take what we can get!

    1. The first has has an Extreme difficulty setting, too. In both games, they're the exact same thing; having to face eight Mavericks instead of four, along with a few other minor changes.

  14. Huh. I was not expecting that to happen. And I'm quite okay with this.

Too bad trying to use the one-button Dash on the 3DS is extremely horrible. (Not that it was much better on the Game Boy Color, mind.) *laughs*

  15. I really don't understand what people are getting upset about. It's not like the other games are not going to be released, they are just going to be released on a later date. I also don't recall the votes being public so I don't know which game had the most votes, but if it was Xtreme, so what? Maybe people wanted that one the most and just didn't make their votes public knowledge by posting what they wanted on a forum or a blog post. It just seems like people want to get mad at any little thing nowadays. :/

  16. I voted for Xtreme and for good reason. I figured the other sequels should be released in order, and as Wily's Revenge is already out, that means Megaman II would be next if they released the rest of the classic GB titles. Megaman II is a weak title to start off on, and a lot of people are playing these games for the first time. Xtreme is a much better representation of the mix of new and old you get with the gameboy games. We'll have all the games in a month, so there's little reason to complain, so I think we should consider putting a best foot forward for new players.

  17. I'd rather have a collection like Mega Man Zero Collection. Why not put all games in a cart, like Mega Man Mania was supposed to be? If it was looking good for the GBA (5 games), imagine now for the 3DS! (those 7 games and more, like MM&B and extra content) Would Mega Man Battle Network 1-6 fit in a 3DS cart? (including alternate versions)
