Mega Man 30th Anniversary Panel Announced for Tokyo Game Show (Updated)


The 2017 Tokyo Game Show will play host to a special Mega Man 30th anniversary panel, Capcom announced. The panel will include new 30th anniversary details and special guests, including Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya:

"[September 24] 14:20 to 15:05 – Mega Man‘s 30th Anniversary is Almost Here! Stage – In December, the Mega Man series will reach its 30th anniversary. As we look towards the nearly here memorial year, we’ll look back on the Mega Man titles released so far and deliver the latest 30th anniversary celebration information. Featuring Kazuhiro Tsuchiya (producer) and guests America Zarigani, Chocolat Ikeda, and Ayana."

As intriguing as all this sounds, be mindful of your expectations. But, man, would this every be a good opportunity to show off something new. We shall see!

  5. Considering the poor state of Capcom's PR, I'd be genuinely surprised if a game or some other sort of major announcement wasn't announced at this sort of thing. There's no way Capcom's short-sighted enough to hold a Mega Man press conference at TGS that's just to announce commemorative merchandise or another officially endorsed fan game.
    That being said, I pity Capcom in this scenario, because there's almost no pleasing their fans anymore. But not too much, since it's their own fault.

      Plenty of fans are actively waiting and wanting an opportunity, just to jump at a chance to forgive them for the way they've mishandled the franchise.

      If they actually did something of quality, the reaction would be good. Mega Man in Smash, X in MvC, these things were pretty well received for the most part.

    Anyway, this is... interesting, to say the least. I just hope there's something for Mega Man on the Switch front. Now is the time to capitalize on the sales of the Switch, as well as for other platforms. Why, though, am I expecting something from the Mega Man cartoon? I'm a little worried about this, as well. Time will tell. Hopefully, all will be positive news.

  8. I doubt there will be any new game announcement. If there was by some miracle a game announcement, it'll probably be another collection or some half-assed mobile port of Megaman 2 again with some useless updates.

    1. Actually, that's Zero, Volnutt, .EXE, Mega Man, ZX Advent, ZX Advent, Star Force, ZX, and X. Don't forget to give the ZX series some love. I really, really like the ZX series. (Probably more than Zero.) At the top of my Mega Man game wishlist is Mega Man ZX3 as an epic Symphony of the Night-styled Metroidvania.

      BTW the other games are not an extension to Zero the character in anyway outside of superficial design.

      ZXA characters play nearly nothing like Zero outside of the very optional side ZX A-trans, and generally play closer to blue bombers that use projectiles mostly, they even have buster arms most of the time.

      As for ZX I saw someone up there saying they would rather play as model X only for the whole game. Well I'm guessing they meant because of aesthetic reasons, cause that would be redundant cause gameplay-wise model ZX does everything that model X does.

    4. Because Mega Man is more different from X than Zero is from ZX, speaking from a perspective of gameplay and art style. Legends and BN aren't even the same genre.

      As for Model X, it's partly for aesthetics, and partly because that's not true. Model X has the double shot. He could've had more, but that was enough.

First off Classic has way more in common with both X and Zero than Zero does to ZX, the closest Zero ever got to ZX was the original Zero and that game's attack((elemental, ex skill), leveling and cyberelf system on top of lacking any sort of atmospheric relations to ZX, distinguish it, and if you think Classic doesn't share an artstyle with the X series but Zero does with ZX you need to reevaluate your art examining skills or sight quality. Because obviously ZX has a comparable artstyle shit from MMZ to what X has to Classic. Unless you mean graphically and even then games developed on the same system for Classic and X sometimes have borrowed sprite easter eggs from another's game.

      Also Legends and BN not being that similar in game-play (which even then I can find parallels) to anything else was the entire point of me explaining the shallowness of saying that things play the same just by looking at them superficially.


      Second, that is not a "double charge shot" Model X can store a level 3 charge after shooting off a level 2 if charged to a level 3 shot. Model ZX has all 3 level shots it just doesn't store level 3 shots and that is literally the only difference ... well aside from ZX having way more actions which was the reason why they removed that level 3 charge shot storing to begin with (outside of it being useless in the face of actual new abilities). And if you really REALLY need your blue bomber aesthetic and level 3 shot storage the game gives you the ability to play with it throughout the whole game, just beat it on normal with both Vent and Aile, it's dumb but I think Inti was trying to test how far people would go for petty things.

    7. If you can't see how similar Zero's art style is to ZX, then I can't help you except to tell you that you're wrong. The bosses are interchangeable between both series by their look alone, and you literally have more returning characters from Zero in ZX, in the form of the models based off the four guardians, plus ZX. The only difference between Zero and Model ZX is a stronger charged shot lifted from X2. That's it. None of what I've pointed out can be said about Classic and X, although X is virtually an upgraded copy of Mega Man, going by functions alone.

      Your point about things playing the same using Legends and BN as examples is wrong, too, because either of them don't look anything like their sidescrolling predecessors when you look at them in action.

      What the hell are you even yammering about with the level of charged shots? Model X has the double shot from X2, however you want to break it down. ZX does not. That's part of what makes Model X, or X in general, fun to play: mowing things down with two charged shots at a time instead of just one. It's a different playstyle that I enjoy. I'm not even talking about a blue bomber aesthetic, I'm talking about playing as X. I wouldn't even have minded him being unlockable after a single playthrough (not two) if he had abilities from the other guardian models, like air-dashing, for starters. If Model X were at least overpowered in the sense that you wouldn't really need any other model, unless you wanted to use a saber, then making it unlockable makes sense. I'd rather have one really good model than four or five to have to switch between, which is what you had anyways with ZX.

      Pay attention... I am saying there is an art style shift between Zero and ZX not that they do not share similarities, similarly to how there are artstyle shifts between Classic and X which I am being generous with as for the longest time up until SENSIE and Tatsuya Yoshikawa both X and Classic shared the same artstyle.

      I am saying if you think there is an artstyle shift between Classic and X but not for Zero and ZX you are blind or artistically illiterate PERIOD Now if you held the same standard consistently then it becomes a matter of opinion.

      You are also conflating design with artstyle which in itself is an error. Keiji Inafune and Hideki Ishikawa can both draw the same exact design in a different artstyle.

      My word! Pay attention, what I am saying about MMBN and MML is the exact opposite of what you just describe me saying. What I am saying for the last time is that THEY DO NOT PLAY THE SAME but if you judge them playing the same off of something shallow like they both shoot and collect powerups and are mostly made up of shades of blue, that is ridiculous, same like saying ZX is the same as Zero just because "model ZX plays like Zero with a better charge shot" yeah don't remember comboing frozen enemies, or ripping their arms off and using it as my weapon, or using cyber elves to augment the attributes of my abilities, or using a chain whip/grappling hook with a shield or etc etc etc etc with Model ZX, I also don't remember ZX having color variants... Let me guess, you'll try to cover that unpleasant track by saying those things are covered by other models, well let me save you the effort THEY AREN'T same way "double charge" isn't covered by model ZX.

      As for the double charge shot in X2 I guess that counts since he literally stores a level 3 and 4 charge in one of each of his arms, but the only real double charge shot X has done was in MvC:I where he shoots two of the same charged shots in quick succession, the rest were just fan dubs for last level charge shot storage. But fine I'll grant you that Model ZX loses "double charge shot" (silly thing to be arguing against at the end since it's just semantics).

      That said if storing a level 3 charge after shooting a level two charge being the only gameplay difference between model X and ZX to make room for level 3 charged saber makes you absolutely need to play with model X the entire game, then the game gives you that option. And even though you don't like the way to unlock it and think storing a lvl3 to mow down enemies adds all this depth to a character and makes "X, X" the option does exist for what I and I'm sure many others believe to be such a trivial thing.

      So essentially go through the steps to unlock model X, now you have it forever on that cart, delete the two unholy ZX only saves it took to unlock it and boom you have your dream game. That or buy a used copy of ZX with no save file that has model X unlocked from the start, or use an unlock cheat, or heck mail it to me I'll breeze through the game in less than 2 hours and unlock it for you, you'll probably get it back the next day(obviously in jest).

    10. It's still basically two charged shots. The "level 3" charge is just two "level 2" shots being stored. When you fire them at once, it becomes the double shot, or the double charged shot.

Considering the positioning of the panel relative to all the other panels taking place that day (or all of TGS, for that matter), I find it rather unlikely that anything major such as a new game of any sort gets announced there. Although Rockman/Mega Man gets two panels that are combined into nearly 1 hour total length... One also has to consider that immediately after the MM panel is the Monster Hunter World panel that Capcom will end their TGS with, and as far as Capcom appears to be concerned, that's their major project moving forward.

    If something that isn't already known is going to be announced, the highest chance of that happening is during the Dragon's Dogma panel a day earlier, which is the very last panel scheduled for Capcom's first day at TGS.

  15. A new game would be nice. Really nice. I don't expect miracles from Capcom though.

    But a remake of Battle and Chase would suffice as well. Maybe with a few more bots on the roster. Like Metal Man.

  19. They were so lazy that they reused the 20th anniversary art. Capcom is a fucking shit when it comes to megaman.

    Look I'm not trying to be negative, but according to reality itself, Capcom just isn't fucking interested in Megaman anymore. IF (by a very low probrability in the Universe itself) they give us something new it'll be no more than a shitty mobile game or something.

    My hope on megaman is lost really, I had hopes for a mmx9 or a continuation for the exe series as well as the nt warrior anime for a while when I was a kid. Now with all the bullshit, including Keiji Inafune scratching his ass on our faces even after leaving Capcom, I expect nothing from the megaman franchise anyway.

  20. At first, I did expect a MMX9, continuation of Megaman Battle Network or a new season for the Nt Warrior anime for a while or something. But after everything that happened, including Inafune's Mighty no.9 disaster, I expect nothing more from Capcom about Megaman. Maybe they just don't really care anymore.

    I expect nothing more than a dissapointing mobile game or something. Megaman is just dead now. Not being negative, I'm simply facing the facts here.

    Not to mention they were as lazy as to reuse the 20th anniversary art. Great job guys.
