Mega Man Badges Coming to Nintendo Badge Arcade

Just in time for the launch of Mega Man Legacy Collection for Nintendo 3DS, a slew of Mega Man-themed badges are slated to hit Nintendo Badge Arcade later this month, Famitsu reports. Distribution will begin in Japan on Friday, February 26th.

For those not in the know, Badge Arcade is a "free-to-start" application which allows you to decorate your 3DS home menu with badges featuring Nintendo characters and iconography. To my knowledge, Mega Man represents the first 3rd party content offered from Badge Arcade. EDIT: No quite; that honor goes to Monster Hunter (another Capcom property).

Much like the Mega Man 3DS themes shown above (which come bundled with the Collector's Edition), I have no doubt we'll see these outside Japan eventually. We'll keep you posted!

  1. FINALLY, 3rd party badges!

And a good way to start.

  2. Not quite true. There's been Monster Hunter badges, as well as Hello Kitty, some supermarket chain, and some raccoon mascot named Ponta.

For those unaware, the Nintendo Badge Arcade is a free-to-start application that tries to replicate playing crane games in arcades... all the way down to asking you to spend real money for five plays each. You can win free plays (and sometimes they give a free play away) on a practice machine, but the machines are often set up in a way that you can't get everything in one play.

It's a nasty practice! I rather like it for the physics puzzles and posting up menu screens, but if you decide to take part, know what you're getting into and play responsibly.

  3. Not necessarily the first third party badges -- Monster Hunter X badges were either announced, or are already in Badge Arcade for Japan. Interesting, as they're both Capcom properties.

  4. Nifty.

In other Nintendo/Mega Man related news, Nintendo had their investor meeting not too long ago, which can be seen here : https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/library/events/160203/03.html#

The Mega Man amiibo is in the top 10 highest selling ones (ranked number 9 just below Pac-Man) in North America, where the most amiibo have been sold by far.

Pretty impressive what can happen when something gets proper advertisement. Too bad Capcom didn't do more to take advantage of the free Smash promotion themselves.

  5. Awesome! Been playing this game since around when it came out and the badges have so...lacking. Can't wait to hopefully be able to decorate my homescreen with Mega Man instead of more Mario or random photo-realistic weirdness...
