Niklas Jansson Talks Mega Man Legends

Niklas Jansson of Flying Spaghetti Monster fame, absolutely adores Mega Man Legends. Adores it so much that he recently put up this blog post discussing his take on the series, a proposed "revitalization" of the Legends canon.

The writeup includes new takes on the Reaverbots' origins, Digger mechanics, factions of Elysium and a whole boat load of other interesting concepts. My personal favorite tidbit? The hierarchy pictured to the right; it's sort of a organizational food pyramid of the entire System of Elysium. Truly fascinating.

What Are The Chances Of Mega Man 2 In HD?

In a thread on Capcom Unity, Seth Killian responded to a fan's inquiry regarding the possibility of a Mega Man 2 remake ala HD Remix style:

"MM2 gets nods from Capcom in a lot of places, so it's definitely at the top of our minds. Whether a straight HD port would work is an open question. To my mind, the model there is not MM Powered Up, but more like Bionic Commando: Rearmed, which started with all the original level designs, but added a lot of interesting new mechanics, etc.

MM has already explored a lot of additional mechanics over the course of many games, so it's overall a trickier proposition, but I've gotta say I'd love to see it myself."
I would absolutely love to see something similar to Bionic Commando with added mechanics and the like. Still, I completely understand where s-kill is coming from; would a "remake" tarnish the already classic mechanics of MM2? Is it even worth the time and effort to add all sorts of new bells and whistles?

We'll see what the future holds.

Puma's Mega Man Inspired Shoe Comes to ebay

Well, here they are, Puma's Mega Man inspired 971 Lo Mega! shoe. A "like new" pair is currently up on the ebay block with a starting bid of $29.99 (MUCH cheaper than the standard $65.00 retail price):

"You are bidding on a pair of 917 Lo Mega! "Mega Man" blue shoes, sized US 9. They are less then a week old and I only wore them one time. As cool as they are, they just weren't for me however since I did wear them once Puma wouldn't take them back. They're clean, and I even cleaned up the soles to the point where it's barely noticeable that they were worn at all."

Truly awesome pair of shoes, but I don't know if I would actually wear them...in public. A bit too snazzy for my tastes.

Tiny Urbal Vinyl Preview

ToyFare Magazine (issue 141) brings us another look at Jazwares' up and coming "urban vinyl" Mega Man figures. Although the small snippet offers no additional details of what to expect from the line, it does however give us a very vague release date of "various." Would it have killed them to be a wee bit more specific?

Oh well. In the meantime, feel free to check the line up in its entirety at Action Figure.com's gallery. Thanks for the scan Radix!

Dark Void Goes 8-bit For April Fool's

April Fool's day was the other day, a time when everyone plays practical jokes on each other and gets a good lol at other people's expense. Capcom USA pulled one of the better jokes this year, announcing plans to give their upcoming shooter, Dark Void, a complete makeover. I don't know about you, but this makeover seems awfully familiar...
Check out Shana's post for the complete joke.

One Man's Trash Is Another's Treasure

Yahoo! Auctions home of everything you could possible every want, brings us a truly awesome item; a Rockman pencil sharpener! But wait, don't get too excited -- it doesn't work!

To put it bluntly, the seller deems it as a junk, no longer capable of carrying out its pencil sharpening duties. Junk, eh? Broken or not, this little nugget is quite the rarity, well worth the buyout price of 1,000 Yen ($10.00). Plus, you might be able to get it in working condition again if you're willing to put in a little elbow grease. How hard could it be?

And while you're at it, take a gander at these Rockman EXE pencils.

Rockman 3 Re-released Onto Japanese Mobile Phones

As of yesterday, Rockman 3 is now available on SoftBank and EZweb equipped mobiles phones in Japan.

The latest release is "3G friendly" complete with new features such as a new difficulty level and a sound test mode where you can listen to all sorts of sound effects and BGMs from the game. Other than that, it's a pretty bare bones port of the Famicom classic.

Rockman 3 can be purchased for the small price of 315 Yen ($3.50)

Auction: Mega Man 2 Worlds of Power Book

In an attempt to cash-in on the video game industry, Scholastic Books released the Worlds of Power book series in the early 90's; miniature novels based on popular non Nintendo franchises.

Mega Man 2
had the dubious honor of being novelized, chronicling Mega Man's quest to defeat one Robot Master after the next. Sadly, it's not as interesting as it seems, the book is noteworthy for throwing in some very bizarre plot points involving cloning and Mega Man becoming a human being...forever.

As strange and out of place as it may be, the book is quite the collector's item often selling from anywhere between $10 and $30 (condition is a huge factor). A reasonably priced auction just so happened to pop up today: Staring price of$24.95 (buyout of $29.99) with $3.00 shipping. Not too bad if you don't mind some wear!

Interested in learning more about the book? Read up on Mechanical Maniacs' write up and be amazed.

Hitoshi Ariga Is Such A Troll

Though not as cruel as a certain other Japanese April fools' joke, Hitoshi Ariga, author of the Rockman Megamix series, pulled a fast one on us.

According to his newest blog post, Megamix 4 will be nothing more than one huge disappointment: It won't be available this May, it will not ship in a 300 page A5 format book and will most certainly not include the bonus comic "Development Secrets" at the end of each chapter...

Sarcasm at its finest. You had me there for a moment Ariga.

No, Metal Man Is Not Getting His Own Game

This video's been making the rounds today, and I simply could not ignore it:

That was Curve Studios' titular character "Explodemon", who looks a hell of a lot like Mega Man 2's very own Metal Man.

The game, Explodemon! is a self proclaimed homage to various classic platformers .The official press release from Curve reads:
"Explodemon! is a 2.5D action platform game with an explosive main character. Mixing classic platforming action – from classics such as Mario and MegaMan – with the refined contemporary gameplay of Halo and Half-Life 2, it brings old-school gameplay bang up to date. Coming from Curve’s deep-seated love of video game culture and history, Explodemon! is wrapped up as a loving homage to SNES-era Japanese action games.

Explodemon! will release on PSN, PC and WiiWare in 2009."
Very interesting concept. Color me excited!

Get Equipped With Popcorn Shot

TV dinners are all the rage at my house. That and popcorn. Can't get enough of it. Anyways...

Back when the millennium was fresh, 2003 to be exact, Capcom USA signed a deal with ASAP Popcorn to put Mega Man on 10 million microwaveable popcorn packages in honor of the franchise's 15th anniversary. As an added bonus, ASAP would hold a sweepstakes to win a Nintendo Gamecube and various MM goods. The contest ran through July till September 2003. Interesting, no?

Out of blatant curiosity, anybody managed to snatch one of these way back when? Maybe even entered the contest?

That's A Wrap

Old banner is back and with it, my devotion to the Blue Bomber. My strange, abrupt love for the Rockman amplifier was nothing more than a simple April fools' joke. (In all seriousness however, Tom Scholz and anything bearing his name simply rocks.)

Sure, the Mega Man X9 joke was great and all (amazing sprite jobs!), but I felt like doing something completely different. I dunno, if I had a little more time I might have been able to cook up something really juicy. Maybe next time. Maybe next time...

Well, onwards and upwards. More Mega Man/Rockman news to come!
