Blokees really came out of the gate swinging with its first wave of Mega Man model kits. By focusing on characters and designs that rarely receive merchandise, the company immediately stood out from others currently producing Mega Man goods.
Releasing alongside Shooting Star Mega Man is the other half of Wave 1: Zero in his Mega Man Zero design! But is this kit just as good as the last one? After the break, I’ll go over everything you need to know.
Model kit provided by Blokees.
The first thing you'll notice about Zero is that he is much more stylized than Shooting Star Mega Man was. Personally, I'm a fan. The helmet especially reminds me of the Rockman Zero 3 box art, and that will always be a plus in my eyes. This is still undeniably Zero-series Zero, just with more detail here and there making him look more machine-like.
There are plenty of details here and there for you to find like this clever Z logo that can be hidden by his "jacket". Zero really works best with a Z logo, and this was a smart way to add it in without compromising the overall design. The red on the ears is also vaguely Z-shaped, but I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. It looks cool either way, and the Rule of Cool must be observed.
The colors used for the plastic look amazing right out of the box, especially the gold. It is very shiny, much more than I was expecting. The red is very intense, and the under suit counter-balances that with it being almost completely black. The color of the under suit is actually closer to Zero's appearance in SvC Chaos, which happens to be my favorite interpretation of the character. Even with the darker colored plastic, the detailed line work is still able to shine through.
I really only have two very minor complaints with this kit. One is the hair, it is a solid piece connected on a ball, slightly limiting the options you have when posing it. The other is that the head gem might be a little bit too clear and show too much underneath. These are extremely minor nitpicks, but something I felt the need to point out.
Zero includes three faces: neutral, eyes closed, and shouting while looking to the left.
Zero also includes two sets of non-weapon hands: fists with an opening for blade weapons and open hands.
Lastly, Zero includes an assortment of weapons including his Z-Saber, Buster Shot with a specific hand for holding it, the Zero Knuckle, and two Recoil Rods. The Z-Saber and Recoil Rods all use the same handles and fit into the fist hands mentioned above. It should also be noted that the Z-Saber has small circles on the inside of the clear part. I'm guessing that has something to do with the molding process.
The Blokees kits scale well with the Kotobukiya kits. The size is a little bit off, but the Mega Man Zero designs are typically portrayed as shorter anyway, so use that sense & skill to have dream match-ups like Zero (MMZ) vs. Zero (X1)!
Overall, I am extremely impressed with the first Wave of Blokees kits. Both Shooting Star Mega Man and Zero came out great and are a must-have for any fan of the characters. The prices are extremely good, under $30 USD, especially considering everything they come with and how easy the assembly process is. I am looking forward to seeing what is next for Blokees' Mega Man line. What are some characters you would like to see made? Sound off below!
