During today's State of Play, Sony has announced that Mega Man X: Command Mission is finally getting a re-release as part of the growing PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog. The game will arrive sometime later this year for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.
Notably, this will mark the very first re-release of Command Mission since its original launch on PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube in 2004. More than 20 years later!
Sony hasn't announced a specific release date just yet, or if you can purchase the game individually. We'll have more details as they become available!

well, I guess it's nice that it's getting re-released at all, but sucks that it's not only a playstation exclusive, but a playstation plus exclusive
ReplyDeleteAll of their classic games that they say are PlayStation Plus only usually end up for sale later down the line at a reasonable price so I would say just give it a month
DeleteSomething I noticed from the sony post, they actually changed cinnamon's head icon!
ReplyDeleteMakes sense, the Red Cross is a lot more litigious now about the use of their trademark than they were in the early 2000’s.
DeleteI Saw it when it was announced, Holy crap IM SO HYPED! I've never played Command Mission and I was gonna emulate it so seeing it get an official re-release is so exciting! I'm glad Capcom cares enough to do something like this. Hopefully this does well and we can get Legends on PS1 Classics too!
ReplyDeletelegends was a PS1 classic though, no? pretty sure I still have it on my PS3
DeleteI'm good. I'd rather practically own my games, which btw is distinct from legally owning them. Sony made abundantly clear the legal side of ownership is not the case when you buy games from them anyway and that has always been the case. On top of the fact that they don't want you to practically own your games, I think I'll pass. Even if I were to support Sony by getting their games, I sure as heck would not do it nowadays where they attach heavy online check-ins and DRM to make sure you didn't steal it after you have purchased it somehow, and I doubly would sure as heck not subscribe to their catalog renting service just to play Mega Man X: Command Mission. I've never seen an easier pass in my life.
ReplyDeletenot the most exciting re-release it could be (with it being locked behind playstation plus, AND the drama around sony at the moment), but super exciting to see this game getting any attention! renews my dim hope for a command mission x model kit from kotobukiya (it gets ever more likely, with how complex the iris and axl kits are...)! love this game, hope this at least gives a few more people the chance to play it!
ReplyDeleteI'm tentatively excited about this one--def not playing it via Playstation, but I hope that this means that it will get released elsewhere later down the line. Loved this game when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteHere’s what I think. Maybe they are considering to canonized/rebooting Command Mission story and make it into MegaMan X9 timeline which takes place like few weeks after the Jakob Project incident instead of taking place in a far distant future like the normal Command Mission version. Then they would tweak the gameplay style into 2.5D just like MegaMan X Dive style. Or even they could turn it into an action-role playing with various interactions between characters in combat, including the addition of the "Boost Strike" feature, allowing multiple party members to perform destructive attacks together under certain conditions, which is similar to Tales Of Arise gameplay style.
ReplyDeleteNew storylines, new lore within the characters like Colonel Redips and Signas are actually brothers, Colonel Redips and Spider are separate characters this time, Marino has a connection to Sigma, as he was the one who killed Marino’s family, thus seeks revenge against Sigma if he ever returns once again by finding a cure to the Sigma Virus according to her background lore. Epsilon being the ultimate creation of Sigma, thus he decided to continue his master’s legacy. So many things can be done.
Then add new bosses, more stages, returning characters like Vile and Dynamo who working for Epsilon, etc. Heck, they could even use Colonel Redips to become the leader of the Neo-Repliforce army and Iris -Another- as his loyal right-hand woman to fight against the new Maverick uprising and the self-proclaimed as the new King Of Maverick, Epsilon and his army.
Should the player meet the requirements for the Best Ending, the gameplay will be extended to further progress the story, the Neo-Repliforce army appears to be the true culprit of all. Colonel Redips is the final boss but he has “something up his sleeve” and attempt to use his “final card” by calling out the “Maverick Emperor”. Of course, what is a MegaMan X game without the infamous and mightiest Sigma himself? He then returns after the defeat of Great Redips, by being “summoned” out by the fallen Colonel Redips, using the power of Sigma’s remains and the Supra-Force Metal, then the Sigma’s remains from MMX8 manages to take Sigma's form into a more powerful devilish form through the remains itself, albeit not-so complete form, claiming that the Sigma Virus and Supra-Force Metal will once again make him whole. Sigma then proceeds to brutally kill Colonel Redips. And so, the tradition of the true final boss in a MegaMan X game continues.
In the future DLC, taking place in the Elf Wars, making Dr. Weil as the penultimate boss and Omega as the final boss of the DLC.
