Capcom's Tokyo Game Show Spotlight has come and gone, and there really wasn't too much in the way of Dual Override updates. Director Shinya Ikuta and producer Hiroyuki Minamitani took center stage to talk a little more about what we've already come to learn about the game. Mixed in with some familiar footage, though, were a few new snippets of Proto Man gameplay. You can watch that portion here.
According to Minamitani, compared to Mega Man, Proto Man deals more damage and focuses more on close-range attacks. His Buster shots have limited range, while charging his weapon allows him to unleash a sweeping blade attack.
Other than that, no major new details were revealed during the Spotlight. However, we may learn more during the game's 50-minute stage event on September 21st.

Looks like they just took MMX attributes and gave them to Classic. The identities are ruined now. About par for the course with Capcom. And the internal part exposure transform is such a tired cliche you only do when you run out of ideas. It's like time travel.
ReplyDeleteNever in my life have I heard someone refer to Megaman as a close range character. If he can't duck or melee, he can't do close range. Even the devs have no clue what they are saying. So they just gave Protoman Zero's saber. As I called it. Pathetic. Chip stuff was also from X5 and onward.
This game is basically just X4 as Protoman's moves are like what Zero's were. Not weapons but augmentations. I had no hope for this and I was right not to trust Capcom with anything anymore. Looks like fangames will forever be the only good source of Megaman.
Megaman has been dead 20 out of the 40 years. The rest of the series (X, Legends, BN, Z, ZX) are FAR worse off too. This game is nothing but their standard marketing ploy to toss the fans the arbitrary bone once a decade. They try to milk us literally once a decade or so and only during a MM milestone year, not at any other point.
Protoman.exe is basically just Zero and everyone was fine with that, but god forbid Protoman be like Zero too right? Mega Man.exe was also basically just Rock and X consolidated into a single character for that version of the story. The way I see it, this is just Capcom doubling down on that concept. It causes Protoman and Protoman.exe to be referential towards each other while also offering a gameplay draw for people who like playing the X series games.
DeleteAs for the identity thing, I think it's worse to intentionally stagnate the gameplay than to allow the series to bleed together. I don't want future Mega Man games to just be the Mega Man version of the New Super Mario Bros series where everything is played overly safe for the sake of nostalgia, making the whole thing bland. If innovation requires bleeding in elements from the X series, then so be it. They can just innovate the X series too.
Lol, oh please. Every entry has its gimmicks. I remember getting into a debate with someone like 25 years ago who thought that Rush was a useless addition and they should have just stuck with the Items.
DeleteOne thing some "True Fans" never seem to pause their pearl-clutching long enough to realize is that Capcom introduces elements to keep things fresh for longtime fans and draw in new ones. Protoman has only been playable in a few games up to this point. Further refining his style as more close-combat doesn't "ruin" his identity. It's giving both longtime and new players different ways to play the game that fits their preference, plus a level of replayability. Don't like certain special moves or buffs? Don't use them. Challenge yourself to buster-only runs like folks have been doing for literally decades.
This has been the one thing I have been consistently coming back to die laughing to for the past two days now. Thank you
DeleteI wonder if they will have Protoman have take double damange in Dual Override. Like in Mega Man 9 and 10, I really do hope they dont do that because I loved playing as him but taking damage killed you super quick
ReplyDeleteSo he's zero....
ReplyDeleteBro thinks he's RockMan Shadow.
ReplyDeleteOk but jokes asides this is kinda lame, never has Proto Man ever done a melee attack, heck not even a weapon (I wouldn't count Wheel Blade as melee do to it's awful damage and performance as one) not to mention Proto Man using master weapons was invented for MM9's DLC. And asides charged shots are really good to have, IDK if a melee attack is really worth it over a charge shot. Still looking forward to the game though.
He looks fun, but I am concerned how much they're taking from the X games. It feels like cannibalizing that series at this point, and a standard X game just won't have anything special but the story and characters. Unless of course X9 is going to use a brand new gameplay style, which would be cool.
