Udon Entertainment is celebrating Free Comic Book Day 2026 with an exclusive Mega Man comic that offers something a little different. Mega Man Showdown Special #1 — a one-off issue completely separate from Mega Man Timelines — pits Proto Man and Bass in a one-on-one brawl.
But that’s not all! The book also includes a Mega Man Battle Network bonus short story, which at long last confirms Udon is now able to produce original Battle Network works, something that’s been difficult in the past due to licensing complications between Capcom and Shogakukan.
Mega Man Showdown Special #1 is written by Daniel Arseneault with art by Mic Fong. You can find the book on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at participating comic shops and local libraries.

As a Mega Man Battle Network fan i say, that's great.
ReplyDeleteVery glad to see Protoman and Bass getting a chance to shine--I think they're underutilized together, and I'm sure the fight will be fun. Can't wait. Of course, the real news here is that Battle Network story. As someone who got into Mega Man through BN as a kid, the idea of it coming back in any form with new content is exciting to me. And many others, I'm sure. I wonder what happened behind the scenes to finally make it reality?
ReplyDeleteWHAT?? THIS IS SO COOL
ReplyDeleteNoted. (Though I still have yet to crack open ANY of UDON's comics run)
ReplyDeleteSo happy about all the recent Classic Bass things happening. Here's hoping it leads to something bigger with DO...
ReplyDeleteAnd a Battle Network story? They're really spoiling us now, aren't they?
Two of my favorite characters and my favorite series getting a bonus story.. this is going to be wonderful
ReplyDeletehey alright, glad that new battle network stuff can happen now. i do hope that someday the original battle network manga can be retranslated or republished in english.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, Proto Man v. Bass sounds kinda epic. Not a matchup or even interaction we get a lot.
ReplyDeleteGod, I hope this is indicative of Bass actually being in Dual Override.
