Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Tops Japan Sales Charts (Updated)


Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection launched worldwide on April 14th. Roughly a week later, the first sales report has come out from Japan - and it's looking good.

For the week between April 10th to April 16th, Famitsu reports that the Nintendo Switch version has sold 52,375 units charting at #1 and the PlayStation 4 version charted at #5 selling 7,871 units. Basically, the collection sold approximately 60,246 units in three days, selling more than all Mega Man X Legacy Collection versions (1, 2 and 1+2 bundle) combined and Mega Man 11 in a similar period of time (in Japan).

This number only accounts for physical sales in Japan. Worldwide digital and physical sales have yet to be disclosed but this bodes well overall. MMBNLC could be on track to become the next million seller in the Mega Man franchise.

UPDATE: Famitsu has released an expanded sales chart that covers the top 30 best selling games instead of top 10. Battle Network Legacy Collection has sold an additional 5,121 units thanks to the download cards released for Nintendo Switch of Vol.1 and 2. The download card that packs both volumes together didn't chart inside the top 30.

The final number for the first three days are 65,367 units sold.

  1. I kinda expected it. From what I've seen a lot of Japanese players where excited about this collection release.
    Now let's hope it continues in this tracks. A game with online pvp needs a active playerbase.

  2. Not surprised, the Japanese market loved Battle Network. I was there during its heyday and can attest to it.

    I'm glad to see this title is going to perform well and it's going to shrug off the lamentations from the usual cadre of fans who refuse to buy the collections. Four Legacy Collections (and one new entry) in and they haven't made a dent in the enthusiasm/sales.

This is great news for Battle Network as a whole, and I wouldn't be surprised if the BN Legacy collection in the west has sold well too relative to the other Mega-man collections in a similar vein to the JP market's reception. Hoping this could mean another entry or even a whole series reboot with all the gameplay mechanics they've refined/iterated on thus far. Plus with these strong sales numbers they could consider dedicating some additional resources to adding official rollback netcode support for PVP? At the very least for Vol. 2's set of games.

  6. I've heard stuff about how difficult it is to find a physical copy at all due to them being sold out just about everywhere, in both Japan and the States.

    Even checking Steam activity, the MMBN collection broke 7k concurrent players on PC, which is on the decent side as far as ports/remasters go. In comparison, the X and Zero/ZX collections never even broke 1k.

    It really does seem like it's doing much better than even Capcom expected.

      So to pour a bucket of ice on that crap, here's a reminder that it was somehow the X series that ended up with a mobile gacha game, and not Battle Network.

    9. I literally forgot X-Over was a thing. Reading up on it to remember what it was, it's actually been more than 10 years since it originally launched (!!!) and it turns out that it was shut down after about 2 years. It looks like it wasn't a gacha, but it did allow you to purchase stuff instead of collecting them.

      Presumably Capcom took what they learned from that and made an actual gacha in X-Dive like five years later, which seems to be a lot more successful.

  9. These aren't good sales, how do you expect this to reach even a million (i.e what the other collections did cept for zero) when only Japan cares about exe as history has shown us...
    Even with digital it won't be much...

    2. Uh, are you even sure most of the other collections sold over a million? Capcom's own self-published Platinum Titles list (every game that has sold over a million across all platforms) only lists Classic Legacy Collection on there as far as MM series collections go.

    3. First, that's as noted in the post, a much better start than any of the other collections. If One million Japaneses were to buy it, it would still be 1 million sale (speaking hypothetically, I'm not saying this will be the case).
      And Mega Man EXE always had some popularity outside of Japan, just not as much.
      And finally, we just happen to only have numbers about Japan so far, but the collection seems to be doing well in the US as well.
      I don't know about Europe, where Capcom is generally lackluster in advertising Mega Man.
