First Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 Gameplay

Capcom TV spent a good portion of their show today checking out Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 (3:22:00 above). Ucchy-san and his companions took viewers through the museum mode – checking out music, old promotional trailers (the promo for X1 is an early version of the game with the 'P' health bar) – and watched a little bit of The Day of Sigma. It's still hard to tell if the the latter has been remastered, though it looks quite nice.

We also get a good look at the various menus. When choosing which game to play, it appears you can toggle between the Japanese and English versions with a simple press of the square button (PlayStation 4 version). From that same menu you can also switch to "Rookie Hunter" mode (easy mode).

Moving on, they checked out the brand-new "X Challenge" mode, which pits the player against two bosses at once. They squared off against Chill Penguin and Frost Walrus while wearing the mysterious white/blue Ultimate Armor. Capcom TV did not elaborate whether or not its color scheme correlates with a new special weapon exclusive to X Challenge, a popular fan theory. The footage of X Challenge is very brief but it looks pretty fun!

Closing off the X Legacy Collection portion, they showed off the limited edition and the differences between the PS4 and Switch versions (2 discs on PS4, one cartridge and a download voucher for Legacy Collection 2 on Switch). And that's about it. Look forward to more news soon!

  1. Not sure if we can actually use Zero and Axl in X Challenge mode. I really hope they can!

    1. They're not gonna make a whole new spritesheet and program a moveset for a 2D Axl,never ever

  3. Man, I'm loving the new tracks used in the menus. Very nice, which I hope is a good sign that an X9 is in the works! lol Interestingly enough, they used a slightly edited Legends' lock-on sound effect in navigating said menus. You'd think they would've used X7's.

X Challenge looks very fun. The attack patterns seen here mesh well. Can't wait to give it a go!

  4. Switch between the English and Japanese versions, awesome. But does that include subtitles? Like for cutscenes in X4?

  5. didn't you mention on a previous post that the collection on the switch for Japanese would have a second hard copy for the part 2 of collection?

    1. Nope. In Japan, both collection 1 and 2 will have standalone versions on physical cartridges. The bundle (both in Japan and US) is one cartridge with download code.

  6. awesome, switch between English and Japanese feature. Now, the question is, we'll be able to hear the Japanese opening and credits themes for MMX4-X8 when switching to that region?

  7. Aw. Day of Sigma is in the same crappy and stretched resolution it has always been over the years. Disappointed to say the least.

  8. Check out the extra goodies you can get from E-Capcom (and Limited Edition) if you live or have an address in Japan.

The acrylic art set for PS4 sold out quickly.

  9. Hey Proto, any word on when pre-orders will go up from a non-GameStop source like Amazon or Best Buy?

  10. Well, the "X Challenge" mode is certainly unique… The mixed sprite styles are really jarring, though.

Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has theories about the oddly-colored Ultimate Armor. It acts just like usual… though, it's unknown of the Nova Strike is available, with that, since they didn't use it. Should be interesting to see what it actually is, later on.

  11. Will the Rookie Hunter" mode (easy mode) be on every version then? Probably going to order the Japanese Switch collection 1 and 2 separately to get the carts. Just want to make sure it will have Easy Mode on it

  12. Did anyone else notice the early version of Flame Mammoth's stage theme in the Rockman X PV?

It sounded really good, maybe even better than what we got.
