"The Day of Sigma" to be Featured in Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1&2?

The British Board of Film Classification recently rated a slew of bonus video content for Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1&2 (which itself has yet to be announced but outed by an OFLC rating). The classification lists several trailers for Mega Man X1 through X8 and The Day of Sigma; the 24-minute OVA originally included with Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X in 2005. These videos will purportedly be featured in the "Gallery Extras" section in each or both X collections. It remains to be seen if Maverick Hunter X itself will be playable.

The classification also indicates the collection(s) will be released on July 19th in Europe. Pending official word from Capcom, however, this date should be taken as temporary. Nevertheless it sounds like we won't have to wait much longer for an announcement. We've known for quite some time all eight X series games are headed to consoles and PC. It's only a matter time before the release format is officially confirmed.

You can view the BBFC classification here or – in case it's taken down – after the jump below. Thanks to an anonymous Rockman Corner reader for bringing this to my attention!

    1. For anyone asking for proof that I talked about it here is a post from March 21:

  2. Wait a moment, isn't Maverick Hunter X required to watch the OVA? Could be they are adding MHX in the Compilations? Just a thought though, don't take this question seriously.

    1. Well, on technical terms it's just a video file they can just take and put on the collection. Beyond that, it'd make more sense to bundle MHX, sure, given how the OVA handles Cain.

  3. nice if this is true.

  4. Oh? A high-quality version of The Day of Sigma would be pretty boss, I have to say. Even better, if it comes in multiple languages with subtitles!

  5. You know I saw someone point out that mega man x3 doesn't have a trailer. So capcom could have simply put mega man x3's video clips from the ps1/saturn versions in its place for video extras. Unless the ps1/saturn verison of the game is playable in the collection.

    1. you sure? i think i have seen a trailer for it somewhere once.

    2. Not really just this weird video with what sounds like the snes intro of MMX3 with its text sound effects going weirdly over the trailer with a gaming montage of the game's opening stage. It seems to have been something that might have been used back then but it's not like a full game trailer if you know what I mean.

    3. I found another trailer but it's for the port of rockman x3 that was released on the ps1 and sega saturn. https://youtu.be/Rr3aUwvbw_o

So it still couldn't be put in the western version of the MMXLC1&2 because it's for the japanese verison of the game. If they happen to put the ps1 version in the collection then it would make me happy. Now if they put both snes and ps1 versions in then playing MMX3 would be perfect because everyone gets the versions they want. If digital eclipse can put five different versions of street fighter 2 in the 30th anniversary collection. Then it wouldn't hurt to put two versions if MMX3 in the MMXLC1&2. Honestly capcom should of put both the ps1 and ss verisons of MM8 in MMLC2.

  6. please HD up the special and not just straight rip from PSP like what they did with SF bluray cartoon which all they did was rip the dvd into blu ray.

  7. I'm really hoping Command Mission and MHX are added in one of the collections. Maybe MHX in the first half and CM in the second? Then each half would have 5 games each.

Either way, hoping we get more info soon.

  8. I've been dying for an HD cut of Day of Sigma. Freeing it from PSP resolution will do wonders for it's watch ability. Super excited to watch it again (assuming it doesn't get scraped)

    2. i say they wanted to avoid making it look flat, but they could'nt animate the bangs separately for budget reason. the result is a bit odd indead.

  10. If this is true and its Hd that alone would be enough to warrant me buying this game. I really enjoyed that ova 13 years ago.

Wow just recalling that and it being so long ago really makes me feel old man i had a good teenage time because of megaman cant wait to pick this up

  11. So will all these bonus features be download only? It seems so unlike Capcom to release a product that doesn't have some kind of crippling "monkey's paw-esque" flaw in it.

  12. Are they omitting the Xtreme games? If so then this will forever be an incomplete collection.

    1. nah, no judgement, it's fine. Also, even if it's my least favorite X-game, it's still not that bad a game. just less good in comparison to some others.

      Delete
    2. Yeah people overly hate on X7 because it was/is cool acting like it was the worst game ever made. A lot of the time I find many of those types to be shoveling group think on top of each other without any real thought put into their opinions.

It got to a point where people couldn't even cite in a coherent way what was wrong with the game. It got to the point where people couldn't say anything positive about the game at all even things unrelated to gameplay that stayed relatively the same like artstyle, music (both of which were handled by veterans of the series) or even graphics (of which the cutscenes stood the test of time I'd even say the environments and some models too).

Not saying X7 was a great game or even a good one, but the worst game ever made? Man I'd rather play X7 over even some Mega Man games, like Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, that game barely qualifies as a game I don't care about group think or review scores that are meme quality.

      Delete
    3. I like X7 a lot. It has a lot of problems, but I think it has the second best atmosphere in the series, behind only X1. The visuals are great. To me, X1 and X7 look like the universe I feel best fits the X series. It's dark and dystopian, but not too much so, like I feel a bit about X3. But it's all subjective, of course, but I think it's certainly got some objectively good things about it despite the flaws. The music is great too.

I'd love to see them add a remastered mode that unlocked X from the beginning, removed the perma-deaths on the rescuable repoloids and maybe move some of them, improve the mechanical feel of the game to be more like X8 (mainly the overall slowness of gameplay, especially in 3D sections), and add an option for JP, EN, or no voice acting at all. Probably more I'm forgetting but it's been quite a while since I played it. Oh, and the obvious 60fps and HD, proper widescreen resolution support.

And no, "BURN IT TO THE GROUND" should not be redubbed, ever. That's not an improvement. It's bad, but it's so bad it's good.

But yeah, I hope it's at least ported well. Same for the rest of the games. I really want something that is definitive and leaves me without any desire to ever play on original hardware or emulate again.

    4. As someone that has a "nostalgic" connection to MMX7 I can say that I see why people are so upset with this game. Especially people who bought this at full price for $60 back then. We have to keep in mind that so many better games like viewtiful joe came out in 2003 for the same price.

However as someone that was disappointed that MMX7 wasn't released on gamecube and loves the portability of switch with the hdmi tv support. I can say I want this a lot.

That's why I want all eight games on one cart so I can play all of the games on a console that's not the ps2 or even the mega man x collection on the gamecube.

Yes I do know that having MMX command mission would be cool too but I think they can port it later like when they ported okami and dragons dogma to modern consoles. Even though okami was ps2 and dragons dogma was ps3. You can still play both games on ps4.

  14. I know it's extremely unlikely, but I REALLY hope we get Maverick Hunter X, Command Mission and both Xtreme games added. Would make it a more worthwhile collection, especially since the second one would be less appealing with X6 and X7 on it. But I'm prepared for just MMX1-8 with a few video extras.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I certainly hope so. While it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me either way, I feel a modern Mega Man X Collection just wouldn't feel complete without that animation. Even if it is a semi-alternate universe, I think it does a really good job establishing Sigma, and really illustrates where X's hatred for him comes from.

  16. May be wishful thinking, but I hope the two collections contain all X games:
Collection 1: X1-X4 (having both versions of X3), Xtreme 1-2, and Maverick Hunter X
Collection 2: X5-X8 and Command Mission (with Treasure Navi included)

    1. That would be fantastic and I'd gladly pay if it included all of that. What's treasure Navi? Don't recall that

  18. If the trailers are HD, that's kind of cool, but will be pretty pointless if the games aren't handled well. I just hope they are. Plus, trailers will just get uploaded on Youtube anyway. On the topic of The Day of Sigma, I really think it's rather stupid, and frustrating, to include in a collection which doesn't include the game it is sourced from, but that's just me. Even so, if it's HD, then that's great. Just weird for it to be included in this collection, I think.

  19. Capcom needs to make an announcement.
I am on the verge of being very excited or very disappointed depending on what they do.

If they add this I will be happy. If they add more games than they announced, that's even better.

But I will be very disappointed if they leave the changes they intended to include in the LAST collection shelved, since it was reported all that work was already done. Especially the X5 and 6 work.

I'll still buy it, but damn that would suck.

    1. Honestly if capcom were to keep the removed features from the previous collection then I would want a redub of X7 and a fresh dub of X5 as that game has no dub at all. It would be weird to hear X4 and X6 with an english redub then have X5 with no voice acting at all and X7 with its terrible original voice acting I wouldn't like it.

Now as for the remixed music of X1 and X2. I can say that it would also be dumb because X3 would be left in the dust without a new arranged ost because they would slap the ps1 version in which no one likes. I personally like it for the cutscenes and don't think the music is the worse thing ever made at all. I would like to see capcom rearrange the ost and sound effects for the game while keeping the animated cutscenes. But we all know capcom would not do that.
I do think that people exaggerate how "bad" the ps1 version is but it's what capcom would choose when it comes to remixed versions of X1-3. I still believe mega man x fans haven't seen what a real bad port is if they think that is one of the worst ports ever made.

That being said at this point I just want all eight games in one cart/disc with a switchable version of X3 and a teaser for a MHX remaster or X9.

    2. i perfer the snes ost to the psx ost of x3. its not the worst ost just oďd on some themes. inlike the rock of the snes better.

i like options. u cant go wrong with more options.

      Delete
    3. Exactly but capcom doesn't like to give us options when it comes to their games. Except for monster hunter world that game surprisingly has a lot of options and the reception of the game is reflecting because of it. I wish they would put the same effort into all of their other games when they first release. I say this because SFV,RE7,MMLC1&2 and MVCI all feel incomplete in a lot of ways. I'm not even going to get into how bad DR4 is either. At least RE7,SFV,MMLC1&2 and MVCI have decent content at all.

      Delete
    4. I know. That's why I am on the verge of being disappointed.

Let the record show, whatever package this is released, I am buying it.
But I'd like there to be something special to it, outside of trophies. I already have 2 to 3 copies of 1-6 already.

      Delete
    5. Exactly my point. Even the street fighter 30th anniversary collection is a little lazy. When we ask for arcade perfect ports. We want the arcade perfect "gameplay" not arcade perfect "roms" shoved onto a disc with no real effort and they did exactly that with no modes to select or anything. The only reason why they are adding training mode and a proper versus mode is because people voiced their opinions about it and said they wouldn't buy it if it didn't have a proper versus mode or training mode.

I can tell you one thing they will not fix to keep it "arcade perfect" street fighter 3 third strike's awful arcade audio. It sounds like they put the opening song and character select song through a grater. What makes it worse is that the street fighter anniversary collection from the ps2 and xbox have clear audio for SF3 third strike. So what reason or excuse do they have not give people a option for clear audio? None none whatsoever if there's one thing I want to change in this collection it's that. SF3 third strike needs clear audio and it's shame no one is pointing them out for this because the game is going to suffer in the long run for it.

We are in 2018 and capcom can't get a decent company to properly port their games anymore. Even devil may cry hd collection on ps4,xbone and pc has the same issues from the ps3/360 release. Which is dumb because like I said we are in 2018. Capcom has had enough time to learn how to port their games and they still don't know how to make the creators of these collections port their games well.

Depending on how they release these collections is what will be the deal breaker for me. MMLC1+2 being a half physical release is making me go completely digital for it because at least I will have all of the games on my sd card. I am probably going to do the same with the MMXLC1&2 if it's the same thing.

    4. I'd like to at least see an OVA based on the recent X Novel or Iwamoto's manga. It can be presented like this:
*12 episodes - Each stage is one episode. Or more if there is more to tell, but this may reduce other parts like D-Rex and Randa Banda.
*6 episodes - Shorter, with each episode covering 2-3 stages.
*4 episodes - Min. amount with a lot of parts cut, but still good (like Pokémon Origins)

    5. I would love a mega man x anime. If we can't get a classic mega man anime then I would hope that we can at least get a mega man x anime. I mean like come on street fighter, devil may cry, sengoku basara and viewtiful joe have either anime or anime movies. So making an anime adaptation based of off a capcom video game is not a foreign concept to them.

      Delete
    6. Getting the X Manga translated into English would be nice.

The problem with Anime is the typical one episode per scenario, minimum. That would be one long anime.
I'd still love to see it, though. Provided the music and animation are good.

  22. @Anon 3: "I'd like to at least see an OVA based on the recent X Novel or Iwamoto's manga."

Oh my god, I would kill for that. The manga gave the bosses so much more personality, even if some of them are a little eccentric and oddly linked (Sting Chameleon obsessing over death and the Grim Reaper), but others are far more compelling (Blizzard Buffalo and his friendship with the human boy Toshihiko, Overdrive Ostrich and his desire to fly as gloriously as Storm Eagle once did). Some are just plain unexplained (Toxic Seahorse's story in the X3 manga felt really unfinished, as there was something important that was never elaborated on).

Give us a Mega Man X anime already. Also I ain't into SF, so I do not care about the collection. But my god, the DMC ports onto PS4 and PC and XB1 are terrible. Why is it so hard for Capcom to port their fucking games correctly. Also release a MMXLC3 to include the other MMX games. And including day of Sigma on the collection was a stupid idea. It doesn't make sense without Maverick Hunter X. And Also give us give us a Maverick Hunter X squeal. And MMZX Advent 2
