First Rockman Rockman, Now IHX?

Remember the sudden surge of Rockman Rockman sales a while back?

Although RR is long gone from U-Capcom's charts, it appears that Irregular Hunter X has re-emerged on the charts at #8.

Although not as amazing as RR's ability to outsell Devil May Cry 4, IHX has been absent from U-Capcom's charts for at least two years.

What gives Japan? Why the sudden interest?

Although this is some very uplifting news, it will take a much bigger sales spike to convince Capcom to create sequels for both IHX and RR.

  1. Unfortunately, neither this or Rockman Rockman seem to have staying power. While RR did come out of nowhere to become number 3, it only did that shortly. And IHX wasn't even as lucky. To be honest, I think the only way Capcom would care is if these games somehow stayed up in the charts faster than its latest blockbuster (i.e. DMC4), which we know isn't gonna happen.

Still, kudos to Japanese gamers for going back and playing an older title. Almost never happens in the U.S. D:

  2. FlashMan of ELB here.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that the sudden sales are due to the fact the new slim PSP can connect to a TV. The PSP, while a handheld system, has graphics passable enough to be considered "console quality".

I personally have no idea how I was able to play Irregular Hunter X OR Rockman Rockman without a TV now that I have the newer, slimmer model. It makes the games much more enjoyable because I can actually see what I'm doing.

Rockman has, in my opinion, never been a handheld franchise. I honestly don't see the series continuing to be successful if Capcom relegates it to the handheld systems and abandons consoles entirely (I mean, really, the last console Rockman game we received was Rockman X8-- that was almost four years ago). The Wii was practically MADE for Rockman-style games; the X and DASH series would both flourish if they were released for the Wii.

Bringing my comment full-circle, your guess is as good as mine, but the new model PSP may have at least something to do with it.

  3. It /does/? I think I needs me a PSP, then!

Seriously, I'm glad to see this happen. Even if it doesn't mean that Capcom releases a sequel, it's a step in the right direction.
