IGN Reveals "Mega Mini," Mega Man's New Sidekick

Today's Mega Man animated series reveal brought with it many questions. Chief among those, "who or what the hell is Mega Mini?" Wonder no longer because IGN has an exclusive first look at Mega Man's smallest companion yet.

No further details were provided, but from the looks of it Mega Mini... resides inside Mega Man's helmet? Yeah, it's a bit of a head scratcher. I know I'm not the only one to immediately think of Soundwave, if that's what Man of Action are going for. Color me curious.

On a related note, IGN's report heavily implies Rush will appear on the show. You'll be comforted to know Mega Mini and Rush are suggested to be two separate characters.

Head to IGN for the full image at IGN.

  2. What stood out to me, although a bit negatively, is the comment about his over the top sense of humor. I've not seen much of that in any of the games, or mangas, and not an entire lot in the comics. There WAS humor, don't get me wrong, but not very silly. I hope this show does indeed have hilarity at moments, but I hope even more that it can switch to a more serious tone with little warning. Of course, nothing too dark, but enough to make the Blue Bomber(s) go serious mode.

And if the kids are taught some values about mercy, kindness, and respect for others as Rock has always shown, just maybe he's alive after all. : ) One can only hope.

    1. I wouldn't keep your hopes up, because Man of Action gave Ultimate Spider-Man an over-the-top comedic tone when really a series like that shouldn't have one.

    2. Reading Ultimate Spider-Man, I couldn't agree more. However, from the very little of it I've seen, I kinda enjoyed the show (in small doses). I'm sure Mega Man will follow in its steps, I have no doubt. It's not the Rock we know, but maybe a great deal of excitement will be created for this new era, and shine a little light on the old, too!

    "what"

  7. *facepalms* First it's starring a bad Tron fancomic character, and now it's co-starring Invader Zim. Somebody please make this stop! If Capcom must have a Mega Man TV show, PLEASE just show reruns of the Ruby Spears cartoon. I'll take lion men, cheesy 90's cliches, and a muscular Mega Man over this any day.

  8. what a bunch of crap
the only thing that still looks like Rockman/Megaman is Mega Man Corrupted and is made by a fan

    2. The new TMNT is actually very good. They understand their fanbase, both young and old.

    3. Rick & Morty, Steven Universe, and Gravity Falls called to let you know they're available.

      Delete
    4. Rick and Morty is the only good one of those three.

Steven Universe is as cringeworthy as anime but with the extra hindrance of having female-driven politics and drama, and Gravity Falls is absolute nonsense.

      Delete
    5. Gravity Falls could have been great, if they would have successfully landed the ending.

      Delete
    6. The new TMNT is just disgusting, Gravity Fall looks horrible to me, Steven Universe is just dumb. THIS however is why I quite television at all; bullshit animation, a stupid storyline and character, that look so UGLY (just like the new TMNT series) where you only want to rip the tv off the wall and toss it out of the window. I PITY this generation, because it has junk like this. I really pity them!

      Delete
    7. Gravity Falls is nonsense if you have no appreciation for the absolute batshit that is Lovecraft. Bill Cipher is practically lifted from the outer void. He's effectively an elder god with some Satanic flavor (e.g. his name, his "deals").

  11. I pray, PRAY the creators get so much backlash for this show they change design elements and names or just cancel it. Sorta like Xover, but I wanted that.

  13. I wonder if somehow they'll blend in other remakes of characters, or if they'll actually be classmates? Such as Zero, Omega-Xis, Vent and Aile, so on.

I'll toss my hat if Zero ends up transforming into Protoman. Now THAT would be an old school trolling.

    2. Maybe. But remember, Battle Network had it's own takes on Rush, Beat, Zero and others. This very well may do the same! Rush is already confirmed, though in what shape or aspect is still a mystery!

  17. I hope the backlash they get for this monstrousity makes them change style or cancel series all together before it tarnishes the megaman series i hold near and dear to my heart. This is just money grab or something. I have no ide why they wouldn't stick with the tried and true method megaman has established.

they should have gone with same style x series had later on like in 7 and 8 or hell gone with the EXE style or ZX style hell gunvolt has a better art style then this.

Capcom if you are reading this we dont want this please take it back and burn it

  19. I don't get this. Why do we need this? Why can't they just use "Rock was a household lab assistant robot who, in order to save the world from an evil scientist, chose to become the super fighting robot known as Megaman!"
Doesn't that sound like a good plot?
This new thing sound like it's gonna be "Robot kid Aki discovers he has superpowers and struggles with how to use them."
    Does that sound as interesting?
The epic thing about Rock was that he chose to do what he did. It wasn't easy and he nearly snapped a few times (megaman 7), but he kept fighting.
This "Aki" sounds like he is gonna be some wishy washy "oh I don't know what do with these powers I didn't know I had and didn't ask for." I could be wrong, but that's the vibe I get right now.
I'd much rather have seen something more like the Archie comics. True to the original story and characters, but still spiced up a bit.
    Sigh........
Anyway here I a cool Megaman fan animation on youtube. At least the characters look right.

They want to make a story that will appeal to little kids in order to make Megaman popular again with them. Remember, this new show will be a kids show at heart.

    1. what's wrong with using the regular megaman plot that we know and love for 30 years?

      Delete
    2. Anyone using "they're appealing to kids" as a way to excuse this horror show should be reminded of the fact that Classic Mega Man is itself designed with kids in mind. Have you read up on the plot lines of the first six Classic series games lately? There is literally zero reason to ditch the Classic formula.

      Delete
    3. Yeah. There are many ways to make something appealing to kids with the material the games have given. Like everyone has said, look at the archie comics. They are very well written and entertaining and as far as I know have very good reception.
Plus you can tell the guys writing them know and love the source material. I can't say I see that from this new stuff. If I saw these pictures and no one told me what they were suppose to be I'd guess some weird tron cartoon. So yeah its not even recognizable at first glance. I'd say that's a red flag.

    5. >"what's wrong with using the regular megaman plot that we know and love for 30 years?"
Perhaps the fact that sales have been blowing worse than a hooker off of a Cincinnati street? Megaman doesn't sell, never really did, even from the beginning when MM1 barely sold enough, and MM2 wasn't an official project, just something Inafune and the guys did in their free time.

      >"But, look at the Archie comics"
Let's also look at how they've gone on an indefinite hiatus (A.K.A. being taken behind the shed and shot) and that the comics would've been cancelled earlier if it weren't for the Sonic crossover.

      >"But Megaman Classic was designed for kids!"
That it was, it was designed for kids of a very specific generation. Kids then wouldn't like the things kids like now, and kids now won't like the things Kids liked then. This isn't only targeted towards children, but it's targeted towards an entirely different "demographic" of kids than those of the past.

    1. More Astro Boy, less Casshan. In other words, taking the Mega Man formula and "adjusting" it so "today's kids" can "relate". Or, put better, taking the Mega Man formula and destroying it.

  26. I feel like I'm being played here.
No one could possibly look at the history of Mega Man,--the whole of his adaptations and spin-offs--see how every piece was received, write THIS, then step back and say "yeah, that will work."
This is a joke. This is MoA trying to get us riled up so they can reveal something better. This is one image and a fake synopsis as a PR stunt. This isn't real, right? RIGHT?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's what I am hoping. They are just throughing this out to get a reaction so that they can show off the real stuff at the con later. What better to make something look good than to show its terrible alternative first.
We can only hope. It would be a jerkish thing to do but not nearly as bad as this actually being real.

      Delete
    2. I mean, this looks like a bad box art Megaman. The synopsis reads like a callback to the made-up plot from the original North American manual, where MEGAMAN is the "chosen defender of the universe" out to conquer the "seven empires of Monsteropolis."
Even the Mega-mini image feels lazily photoshopped, but maybe that's all it is. Maybe I'm just at the "bargaining" stage of grief. I don't know.

  27. I can't believe they missed a great chance to call him "Micro Man." Since mega- means multiplied by million and micro- means divided by million, this would have been perfect!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They missed a bigger opportunity than that: the proper treatment of Mega Man. They had every opportunity to do Mega Man justice and give fans of all ages something to be proud of, all the while undermining Mighty No.9 and taking advantage of all its fumbles. If this is Mega Man henceforth, give me Mighty No.9 and Red Ash any day.

All that being said, the name would have fit nicely. Although there might have been some legal issues with Takara.

"Well, you can start by burning that shit, make Megaman go to school, change his name to Aki to sound more hip and add an annoying sidekick that he never had in the original games!"
    "You are a fucking genius!"

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, this is a mega man with a overdose of bad taste. It's not so far from the bad art of the 80's boxes - but maybe I'm old, maybe it does make some new fans. I will stay clear from it.

  32. Just bring back the old megaman show that was in the 90's. That was the shit!

  33. I still DONT understand why we can't get a solid/coherent game, anime or stuff for the megaman classic or X serie !!
Why Megaman must be always OFF-TOPIC like that?
Is it so hard to take the story of the manga megamix/gigamix or others?

At least, if they dont want make games, they could just dont give the copyrights at the first poor studio who come with money $$$, seriously!

Need a resurrection, same for some others series but well, it's hard.

  34. Next he's gonna get a talking Iphone named "Nae Nae X" to relate to the modern day kids.

  35. I get that this is a "new" Mega Man for a newer generation, but in the name of Aismov, DO NOT let Cartoon Network get hold of this show. If that happened, they'd either: a) sideline it to TEEN TITANS GO! like they did with the new Transformers show ("Robots in Disguise," which, imo, is not half bed, actually), or, b) turn it INTO TEEN TITANS GO!, whether by utilizing the same, horrible writers or crossing the shows over. The last thing poor Ro- I mean "Aki" needs is to be sidelined (or beaten senseless) by a bunch of mentally-challenged, cringe-inducing sociopaths with less collective brainpower than a fruitloop.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Tikki? When did you get armor? Okay, putting jokes aside, I don't like this concept of replacing an already establish series, story, and lore for more generic superhero story. I compare this Miraculous Ladybug, because I love how it took the generic superhero tropes, and reworked them with character development, motives and lore. It would be good if this series did the same, but what would be the point when you already have a lore, story and amazing characters to expand upon? I'm not asking for a faithful recreation of the classic series, far from it. What I'm asking for is faithful expansion of the classic series. If they want to make a generic superhero story for today's generation, they should go to the Miraculous Ladybug team and join them. THEY'RE doing it right. These people could learn a lot from them.
