Mega Man Showdown Special #1 Preview Pages

In case you haven’t heard, Udon is celebrating Free Comic Book Day this year with Mega Man Showdown Special #1, a one-shot issue that pits Proto Man against Bass in a one-on-one brawl. The comic will also include a Battle Network bonus short story.

To whet your appetite, writer Daniel Arseneault has shared a pair of preview pages from the issue, along with the following tease:

“Set during Mega Man 7, Dr. Light is repairing the recently damaged Bass that Mega Man found, but what is Bass really planning? Will Proto Man be able to stop him?”

Free Comic Book Day takes place Saturday, May 2nd, at participating comic shops and libraries.

  1. Unfortunate that it's 7 since we know bass wins or at least gets away. I had hoped it was during megaman and bass in particular after or during bass ending. Ah well.

    1. My guess is that the battle will somehow end in a stalemate.

    2. I think the same, and it'll be a push for both characters future actions. For Bass it'll show him that this data he just stole is useful/needed since he couldn't just crush Proto Man with his own strength (losing to Mega Man in Wily 1 will be the final push to use the data)
For Proto Man it'll lead him to fighting Mega Man to see if Mega Man is capable of beating Bass, and then giving him the shield to tip the odds in his favour.

    3. It can't lead Proto Man to fighting Mega Man because it's set after Mega Man's done Shade Man's stage, which is where you fight Proto Man.

    4. I mean, he could revisit Shade Man’s stage. But the bigger problem is this is right when Bass wrecks the lab, so Mega Man is presumably working on whichever Robot Master is beaten last… I guess he could *still* revisit Shade Man’s stage, even when the Wily Fortress is available?

    5. Lets say he took the other path the first, now he has to revisit haha.

  2. Looks awesome, MM7 is my childhood favorite! My local comic shop didn't have last year's MM comic for free comic book day though, and I even called around to some others who also weren't carrying it. Hopefully I can find it this year!

  3. I always enjoy stories that explore rival characters because they usually bring more tension and personality than standard hero-versus-villain fights. The bonus Battle Network short story is also a smart addition for longtime fans. I would definitely check out those preview pages because they seem like a great way to build hype. After reading comics like this, I sometimes unwind by playing smash karts unblocked for a different kind of fast-paced action.

  4. From those two pages alone, I can see that Bass has the purple multiple shot that he got after exposed to the evil energy in Rockman 8, so this comic is kinda wrong somehow. Around the times of Mega Man 7, Bass had a green energy single shot and a green energy aura, that was also depicted in Rockman the Power Battle. If the comic needs to be made on a specific time frame, the team must research thoroughly, because the target audience is advanced ;-)

    1. Watch them use the 8/MM&B Super Bass design too…
