Threezero's Mega Man line continues with another Special Weapon variant. This time, we get what may be Mega Man's most iconic weapon of his illustrious career: the Metal Blade from Mega Man 2! Will this one surpass the previous releases and live up to its legendary status?

Get your weapons ready!
Metal Blade gives Mega Man one of the more distinctive color schemes in the Classic series. Rather than his familiar shades of blue, he’s outfitted in a bold mix of brown and yellow. While those might not sound like the most exciting colors on paper, the way Threezero's MDLX Metal Blade Mega Man handled it is really top-notch!
The brown armor is nice and shiny, giving it a look similar to that of melted milk chocolate. The yellow being not as shiny makes for a nice counter and helps the brown stand out that much more. Overall, this is a really good look.
"Catch!"
Metal Blade Mega Man has the same articulation as previous Threezero releases, allowing for plenty of dynamic poses. The joints on mine were a little stiff at first, but they loosened up with some handling—just give it a bit of patience.
The Metal Blade accessories fit into the throwing hands by friction. I was unsure about that at first, but it works great in practice. They stay firmly in place without risk of falling, and they’re easy to remove when needed.
The new face sculpt is also excellent, showing just the right amount of intensity. It’s easily the best one in the line so far.
"Wait, am I weak to Metal Blade, too?"
On the flip-side, we have this old face. Without the eyes looking angry, this face always comes across as extremely worried. I doubt that was the intention, but we can see that they are capable of proper intense faces. This face may not hit the mark, but it can be used for silly situations. Just don't sweat it and let your sense & skill do the talking.
"Excuse me, Doctor. You dropped this."
Two of the more baffling accessories are the W Tank from Mega Man 7 and the Mega Buster. Now, the Mega Buster, I understand. While it wasn't seen in Mega Man 2, later titles showed that Mega Man could use his normal Buster while a Special Weapon was equipped. Plus, Busters are cool, so I'll let it slide.
The more confusing one is the W Tank. Don't get me wrong, it's a really nice looking accessory, but Metal Blade is probably the last Special Weapon that would ever need extra energy! Oh well, even if it doesn't make much sense, I'm happy to see it included.
Accessorize!
Here are all the accessories together. We get three faces: stern, teeth clinched, and the new shouting face. We also get three sets of hands: fists, Buster holding, and hands to hold the Metal Blades. Lastly, Metal Blade includes two Metal Blades, along with a Mega Buster and a W Tank. It is a bit of a missed opportunity to include a small stand for the Metal Blades, but at least Mega Man can hold them both at the same time.
Wait, Mega Man can't cling to walls!
Like the other figures in the MDLX Mega Man line, Metal Blade Mega Man also has magnetic feet. These feet are pretty heavy compared to the rest of the figure, giving it a good center of gravity, even when he's not running up the walls.
"Unlimited power!"
That about covers Threezero's MDLX Metal Blade Mega Man. Overall, I'd say that this is the best one yet. Not only is it representing the most famous Special Weapon in the series, it also just looks great. I'd say the new yelling face alone sets it well over the top. This one is definitely worth the purchase, and will fit in perfectly with the rest of your collection. Be sure to use our links so BigBadToyStore knows that we sent ya!

Just got mine yesterday. It's a great figure and I love pairing the W tank with the E tank from regular Rock.
ReplyDeleteShame they just use the same powers over and over and over and over. Thats why I like the Koto models created every power from X4.
