Announced today at Discotek’s Otakon panel, the complete Ruby-Spears animated series is heading to Blu-ray under Discotek’s SD-BD line (Standard Definition on Blu-ray). To set it apart from the earlier DVD release, this edition is loaded with a wealth of bonus material that I, along with a few friends from the Mega Man community, helped put together. Here’s the rundown:
- All 27 episodes presented in Standard Definition
- A newly restored version of episode 1 sourced from the original master, presented at its proper speed—a format not seen in decades.
- Bonus materials include:
- A new scan of the original "anime" pitch pilot
- Hi-res scans of the show's original press kit
- TV commercials
- A toy commercial
- Art and marketing galleries (preview here, here and here)
- Brand-new, interactive menus
- Complete scans of the series bible (preview)
- All-new commentary with Ian James Corlett, the voice of Mega Man!
Over the course of the past year and a half, I’ve worked closely with Discotek on this set, and I can say with absolute certainty that it’s worth double-dipping even if you already own the complete series on DVD. The new transfer of episode 1 is very crisp, and some of the show bible materials are being revealed here for the first time—never before seen, even by longtime Rockman Corner readers.
More updates including a release window soon!
LET'S GOOOOOOO I can't wait!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis was not on my bingo card but I'm excited!
ReplyDeleteYou know, ounce i'l buy me a tv and a blue-ray i'm going to buy it.
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see all this come together! I have such a soft spot for Ruby Spears this'll be a good excuse for a rewatch :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, nice. Too bad I don't have a Blu-Ray player, but I'm sure someone will upload the interview at some point. I'll probably still buy it.
ReplyDeleteI used to look at mega man, i even bought the toy a long time ago and i even used to draw rush.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! More lore of behind the show in commentary and commercials that we never seen before with high quality restored.
ReplyDeleteSo let's see... I have a VHS tape, ADV Films DVD sets, Discotek's DVD Box Set, several home recorded VHS tapes.... Yup I have to add the Blu Ray set to my collection lol When can we preorder this? Because I want to order it ASAP please lol
ReplyDeleteThe bottom of the post says we don't have a release window yet, but it's coming soon.
DeleteEverything but a new game.
ReplyDeleteAnd let me guess. Protodude gets some money out of this.
Well I think he oughta, considering he contributed. ;)
DeleteNope! Did this for the love of the game.
DeleteHonestly I'm just tired of this screwing around with Mega Man too. Heck they could make another cheaply made new retro game at this point. Even if it meant X9 had to be 16 bit looking. Look at the numbers Ninja Gaiden Ragebound is doing too.
DeleteDiscotek doesn't make Mega Man games.
DeleteHonestly, Protodude should be compensated for both running the internet's sole remaining fansite that posts news regularly AND for dealing with some of the petulant "fans" who frequent here.
Meh. I have the DVD's. And I never watched em.
ReplyDeleteI am more interested in Discotek's Zone of the Enders release. Dolores, i is better than the first game, IMO.
Meanwhile I am still waiting for Discotek to license rescue Tekkaman Blade... They have licensed seemingly every other property but that one. Soon *TM.
Niiiiiiiice! Going to get it as soon as it becomes available!
ReplyDeleteThis will be worth it solely for the original pitch video in higher quality.
