Famitsu Published Your Mega Man 30th Anniversary Comments

Hey, remember when Famitsu asked you to fill out a Mega Man 30th anniversary survey? Well, several of your responses made it into this week's issue. I would like to note, however, that they only published comments about the classic series. So if you talked about anything else – X, Battle Network, Legends, etc. – you didn't make it.

With that out of the way, read on for the comments that made the cut!

The results of your favorite Mega Man game poll:

Your favorite Mega Man characters:

Your favorite BGM:

Your Mega Man 11 wishlists:

And finally, your congratulatory messages for the 30th anniversary:

Apparently this is just the beginning of Famitsu's 30th anniversary coverage. Each issue for the next three weeks will have a segment on Mega Man. No word on whether or not they share newMega Man 11 info. With E3 right around the corner, though, I think it's safe to say anything goes.

A huge thanks to BlackKite and Reploid21XX for the images. You can download these pages for ONE DAY ONLY from here.

  1. My comments did not make it in, nor did my votes matter. Well, aside from helping Roll become the #3 favorite character. But, I'm hardly in the minority, when it comes to liking her.

Kind of disappointed, but unsurprised, that Wily Stage 2-1 was the #1 fan favorite. Extremely happy to see that Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 8 are so well-loved, though! (But, there's no love, for Rockman & Forte…)

Also, that's awesome that, out of all the comments received, both Press Start and FuPoo got their comments published!

  2. Favorite game is Megaman 2 and the favorite BGM is Wily Stage 1. Why am I not surprised?

  3. why'd they even bother making the other series selectable survey choices if they were just going to exclusively feature classic content?

    1. Who knows, they may publish articles for each series, or just use it as feedback for development.

If they had options, they're probably gonna use it somehow.

    2. Probably because the classic games blew everything else out of the water like usual?

There's a reason it's the most beloved and iconic series in the franchise. Classic IS mega man. Shocked 7 got so high up on that list tho woha people like stiff controls and poor level design alot eh?

      Delete
    3. Blew everything out the water with around a thousand and a half votes... Riiiight.

Mega Man X and junk couldn't get more than 77 votes, yeah that sounds logical.

Either way we must be super niche if they polled the ENTIRE Mega Man franchise and MMC alone blew away all the others with only a thousand or so votes in total. Actually we are super niche if they polled MMC alone and all we can get is a thousand or so votes in total, but still.

    4. No offense Shaynomack but your opinion does not speak for the entire fanbase, I don't understand people like you who think they speak for every fan. Some of us actually prefer the X series.

  5. I don't see any of my comments, but I'm pleased to see that MM3 is still ranked high up there.

  6. Oh joy, it's the results for the Dr. Wily's Mega Man 2 series, in which they also try to pass off a MM2 Boss as one from MM3, Wood Man. So glad it can abolish any fears we had of Mega Man 2 not getting attention. Wouldn't it be great if Capcom made a Mega Man 1 though? It might get ignored though, because nothing can stop the all-powerful Dr. Wily Mega Man 2 game from being the GOAT. NOTHING.

  7. I said that my favorite character was Tiesel Bonne and my favorite song was Cannon Ball, neither from classic series. Whoops.

    1. Teisel Bonne should've been an exception. He's underrated af.

    2. My favorite song was Commander Yammark's theme
It's a pretty dissapointing result all around

  8. I feel bad for the person who asked for female robot masters since I think they confirmed that there won't be any.

  9. While im not surprised about the top 2 entries, it really surprises me to see MM7 (at #4) and 8 (at #3) to be ranked much higher than 9 (at #5) in the list. Could be a case of silent majority?

    1. If it were me, #9 would be at 9 at 10 would be at 10. hehe. Not to stir the pot, but seeing 10 so low made me happy. However seeing MM5 dead last... sad.

  10. Awesome, made it in. Only used my simple little comment I made about Snake Man but can't complain. :)

  11. Saddens me a bit to see 10 so low, but that's okay. I still love it.

  12. Rockman being behind Roll in a Japanese poll makes sense. Japan really isn't a fan of Mega Man as much as the west, they just passingly like the cliche generic concepts within it kinda, The Badass (which makes sense cause playable and has a unique style), the Cool (headed) Guy (basically now is a supped up Rockman), the Loli (...She's cute? Talks to you sometimes? I guess she rides a go kart). And no I don't count the people voting in this a western oriented even if they are from the west.

    Replies
    1. Wait, I thought Roll was behind Rock in the Japanese poll (based on other comments)? And I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Do you want to say the west-targeted survey was rigged by Japanese people like the entire world abused the Japan-targeted one?

      Delete
    2. No I'm speaking about the type of westerners that voted.... Making us look bad...

      Delete
    3. Making us look bad? This is the dumbest shut I've ever read. The survey I'd pretty darn accurate to what fans want. I voted Protoman, and agree with almost the entire survey. So I guess I make you look bad too?

Or maybe you are just making yourself look bad

  13. In summary, American Mega Man fans are aroused by little anime girls and want games with state-of-the-art graphics, with all-new gimmicks and are just as good as the old games.

Imagine what the Famitsu readers must think of us.

    1. I was thinking the exact same thing while reading all those comments about each of the female characters being "cute." That seemed really creepy to me. And I doubt they are under the age of 10 years old. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one that noticed all that.

      Delete
    2. being aroused by little anime girls didn't stop Capcom from hiring Ishikawa and Nakayama
it's probably relatable for them, I mean why is a little girl who is rarely playable such a symbol of the franchise as to constantly appear in promotional art? because japan, that's why

  14. Are you sure Rockman is behind roll in the Japanese poll?, she is ahead in the western poll not in the Japanese poll.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Both are the same, they are different in name only. I guess if you really wanted to split hairs one poll is for native born Japanese the other is for people that wish they were. To actual westerners Roll would have absolutely no chance of beating freaken Mega Man, none, she would barely get past Bubble Man.

I'm very curious about your definition of an "actual western" is, mate.

    3. Well you know... People that aren't you know the W word.

Look I'm trying not to be overly offensive. You know what I mean.

    4. @Joseph Collins
I think this anon doesn't want to believe western people love Roll than Japan. They think whatever result that doesn't fit their expectation is rigged.

When you think about it, the west is more loud about "gender equality" and "girl power" so it's unsurprising how popular she is here, even if she barely appears and doesn't have much of a personality (I don't mean to talk sh*t about her, that's just how she is in game). Especially since a ton of people demand her to be playable with a buster and all when that isn't how Classic Megaman's story goes.

Sounds like "weirdo?" I got'cha. And, I understand where you're coming from, with that, though I think that the two can be mutually exclusive, as well.

      @Anonymous (May 17, 2018 at 12:01 PM)
It was an odd choice, of Capcom USA, to remove her first "major" role, when bringing Mega Man 7 over. But, she gained a bit of a cult following, regardless. Once she popped up in Marvel vs. Capcom and we started getting the comics, and such, though? I'd say she that following became more mainstream. Oh! And, especially after Mega Man Powered Up where, in an alternate timeline, she was the hero!

If that's not "girl power," I don't know what is.

    6. Weaboos OK! Weebs, the type that rummage the interwebs and can't get enough of Miku and Lucky Star or what have you, there I said it, you happy?

Cries of sorrow in the corner.

"When you think about it, the west is more loud about "gender equality" and "girl power" so it's unsurprising how popular she is her"

      A. This has nothing to do with Gender horse scat. If this were Tomb Raider and Alex Weiss was voted as being favored over freaken Lara Croft.... It would be just as weird. Actually not really because at least Alex did major things in the Tomb Raider franchise outside of being there looking cute.

Are you even getting what I'm saying? More people voted for Roll than ****MEGA MAN****. You really think if this poll was actually taken in the west by say Gameinformer that would have a chance of happening? Get real.

      B. NO! just no, that is a vocal minority, most westerners are silent keep to themselves normal people. It's messed up how "SJW" types are ruining the west's image.

  15. What's with the fuss about Roll? haha What's more head-scratching is why those main characters are even there at all. Since If I recall the question was asking about "Robot Masters". I guess a lot of people can't read, so Famitsu said to hell with it. lol But anywho it's not a big deal, just an observation. lol

  16. oh ok, this saved me a run to the magazine shop, as I answered Rockman X exclusively and they decided to do it just Classic.

  17. Surprised to see Mega Man 8 so well liked.

I always felt it was a bit underrated.

    1. Eight is great! Only thing I don't like about it is the running speed (well...and the voices). Megaman's a good size again, the animation is awesome, and the power ups added a lot (I liked arrow shot especially). I think it has a pretty good set of boss weapons also.

  18. I'm suprised that Roll got #3. She contributes very little to the main plot and is irrelevant in most cases. Even Rush is more useful than her. She's probably just a fan favorite just for being a girl. Soooo special (sarcasm)

    1. Honestly why is there even a little girl with no powers (and something barely resembling a personality)at the forefront of the franchise? it's ridiculous

  21. I'd be happy to see a playable Roll (the other three have been), Surprised that apparently Megaman is nobody's favorite (I'd have voted for him!), two of the top three music tracks are some of mine too. I'm really surprised to see Megaman 8 so high, but those actually *are* my favorite three games (though my order goes 3,2,8). Still, a bit of vindication for 8!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What other three? You mean Mega Man, Proto Man and Bass? You seriously don't see the difference between them and Roll, for you it's everyone gets a turn or something? Mega Man being the MAIN and the title character, Protoman being the defunct original house robot turned battle robot modded by Wily out of spite for Mega Man (thus pretty much original Mega Man but with a bitter twist) and Bass a literal alternative Mega Man built to beat him and lastly Roll just slides into place like the missing piece in a jigsaw right along side those three huh?

Fine, if we are now wanting characters playable for the sake of it just cause the character exists, were's my playable Light and Wily? At least Roll was playable in a 2D platformer before, I want my playable Light and Wily!!!

      Delete
    2. Both Dr. Light and Dr. Wily were playable characters, in RockBoard. Dr. Wily was also playable, through certain teams or through a convoluted mess of broken code, in Mega Man's Soccer.

Really, the only secondary (tertiary?) characters that haven't had their time in the sunlight are Auto and Reggae. Auto was a "power-up," in one game, and Reggae has been both a "power-down" and a "power-up." If you want to split hairs super-fine, no Robot Masters, beyond DLN-008/B, nor the support units, have never been playable, either. Roll, at least, has some clout, since she's been playable in a handful of games, despite being a secondary character.
(Then again, Protoman and Bass are sort of "secondary" characters, too, aren't they?)

      Delete
    3. I said 2D platformer SPECIFICALLY because I knew some guy would pop out of nowhere with that Rockboard nonsense (which Roll was "playable" in as well).

No, I want them to fight like super fight humans.

Like seriously Roll was put in games playable for apparently random at best creeper at worst reasons (she had some creeper stuff going on in the MvC series). I legit want to know what makes Roll so popular that she gets more votes than Mega Man. Is it her brilliant design, the green bow and ponytail, plain red dress with with frills under and red seemingly slippers? Is it the broom and bucket gimmick from PU and on? Maybe it's her super interesting storyline...

      Delete
    4. I didn't say she should be as powerful as the other three, sheesh. Or that I like her better than Rock or Blues (thought I'm not a Bass fan). But I never got a chance to play Powered Up and from what I understand she used the broom like Zero used a sword. I like Zero, thus... cool. A melee character. Certainly I'd like her to be better than Call...at any rate, I don't figure there's more than a 20% chance she'll be playable, but if she is, you certainly don't have to play her!
