Mega Man: Official Complete Works Hardcover Reprint Due This Fall

Surprise! That thing I was talking about has gone public. Mega Man: Official Complete Works is coming back in a brand-new hardcover format on October 18th.

At a whopping 296-pages, this book features the classic series half of MM25: Official Complete Works. That means the original 200-pages of vanilla MMOCW plus the Mega Man 9, Mega Man 10 and other additional concept art from MM25. Please note that there is no *new* content planned this particular release. That means no Mega Man 11 concept art. This is strictly a reprint of MMOCW with the MM25 classic series content.

As for the Mega Man X half of MM25, that will be reprinted in a separate hardcover edition as well (ignore that image of X on the above cover art; likely an error). I've got no further details on that right now other than it's coming out this fall, too. I'll have more details to share soon. For now, you can preorder the hardcover edition of MMOCW here.

That was on the original release too.

  2. I already bought this book like 5 times, first I bought the Japanese book on Amazon, as I thought it wouldn't be imported cause Japan had it exclusively for so long over there (well over a year) with no word that it would be localized for a while. Then the two books were released here in the west, naturally I had to get them in my native tongue, each time leaving a review about how I wanted hard covers. Then R&RX20+5 were released and I said surely this will be Japan only it is just a small update and proceeded to buy. Then that came out in the west about 7 months later, and as I was assured that it would be the final definitive iteration of the book, I sucked it up and bought the MM25 with my review still up on Amazon.

In my review the one thing I criticized was that getting a hard cover variant costed an arm and a leg as it was released exclusively for events in limited quantities, noting that for a much cheaper price Dark Horse and Nintendo gives you much higher quality pages in a bigger format and with a hardcover for the Zelda books, as well as with better arranged and bigger images many of which with dedicated pages much more so than Mega Man which has waaay more official images and had to cut down real estate to fit them by making many small and share cramped pages even after the 20+5 rearrangement specifically done to remedy this. The Zelda books had to make weight on the other hand with some dedicated pages for single images being something as trivial as an alternate coloring of a previous same exact image. On top of that Zelda gives you the option of buying digital releases, my preferred format for viewing books, as I can see full high resolution images especially those too small or too big to fit on a page to be viewed properly in physical format, without carrying 40 pounds with me everywhere and constantly having to worry about damaging the physical books themselves. I mostly have physical for home use in a specific room were books are concerned, but as for having them for use most of the time I use digital much more and is more convenient. Even Street Fighter 25th had a digital variant, although that had a whole other problems I won't get into here.

Now 5 years later they finally decide to make the hardcover widely available, but then split the books again, with no mention of better quality interior pages, conformation of no new content and without mention of increasing and rearranging images and spaces they occupy on pages to display their prominence on. Yeah pass.

  3. So, just to be clear, the MM25 book has all the content that will be in this book? I wasn't sure if the original OCW had content that MM25 didn't.

    1. All of the classic series MM25 content will be here, yes. The original OCW lacked Mega Man 9, 10 and some other things.

  4. @Anonymous,

Sorry about your experience. Good thing that I am waiting a little long for this one. However, it is still expensive. Oh well.

  5. I just want to point out that capcom unity' s webpage on the mega man legacy collection 1+2 robot recap vol 2 page mentions that the game will release on may 14 instead of may 22 which was the original date. It may have been a mistake (no pun intended) but it is still interesting enough to point out.

Here is the link in question:

  6. There's not much of a point to this when you can buy mm25 and have both the original and x series art in one book like it originally was in Japan in the first place. Why not just reprint mm25 with hardcover?

    1. Why not just reprint the mm25 with hardcover? Well that's simple capcom doesn't believe in complete sets anymore. They love splitting every piece of mega man's past they can get their hands on to make you buy more then one of whatever they release because making one complete bundle takes a lot of effort. Why put a lot of the effort into a mega man bundle when you know you aren't going to sell anywhere near RE7 or MHW's sales. That's why capcom refuses to step in and release the complete version because it won't make them the money that they want so splitting it to squeeze the money from everyone's wallets is the way to to go for capcom.

  8. Was there a hardcover edition before?
However, hardcover means to me at least plus $10 or $15 extra, compared to the softcover-price.
So get ready to pay $100+ for both books.
And I bet there will be an updated MM:OW in the future anyway, after MM11 was relased.
Maybe I will aim at this updatet Super Ultra Deluxe Arcade Edition of MM:CW.
