X Talks and Zero Appears in New Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Trailer (Updated)

Straight from Sony's E3 presser, here's a brand-new trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. The most significant bit for us? X talks! And look who he's talking to - it's Zero! Ready to face off against X and Rocket, Zero's imposing demeanor seems to suggest he's under the influence of Ultron Sigma.

UPDATE: Images!

Interesting stuff, but is Zero actually playable? UPDATE: Yes he is! Check out the 1:13 mark in the following video.

By the by, a story mode demo should be up on PSN soon, too. Be on the lookout!

  1. Even fans have their limits. I don't care if X and Zero are in this, this game looks half-assed. The story mode is probably going to be the worst part about it. What a disappointment.

    2. The VS series is always amazing. This game seems to continue to follow that gameplay wise. Can't wait for it. Doubt it'll top TvC for my fave VS title, but looks great! This is the fighter I'm looking forward to the most.

    3. Nah, their kind are never happy. Just ignore them and roll with it.

    4. Yeah, it really looks like Marvel wrote it, a few years ago that wouldn't have been so bad, but right now everything apart from their movies and Netflix shows isn't what I would call 'good'. The entire game reeks of company synergy, a glorified advertisement for their properties that aren't the Fantastic Four or X-Men and from the look of the trailer, the Capcom characters' inclusion seemed like an afterthought to an already pretty generic storyline.

    5. No. It looks and sounds terrible. Everything about it looks so bland, like a forgettable animated Marvel movie.

There's at least one better fighting game, Dragon Ball Fighters, coming down the pipe. Two if Capcom decides to do an Ultimate MVCI. I'll wait for that while I jam with DBF and the occasional UMvC3 or MKX.

    6. anon3: they anounced from the begining that it was going to take inspiration from Mcu, so OF COURSE it was going to be marvel's propertie that aren't the FF or the X-men.
i'm sad that i would not get the ocasion to play dr Doom this time, but this is'nt a surprise.
the positive of it is that character who would have probably not been in otherwise, like Black Panther, are included. i'm glad about it.
Sure, what little this trailer show is'nt the most exciting ever as it seem to let the capcom characters aside(the one where Ultron-Sigma was revealed was better), but it's early to already start whinning.
The gameplay look great and seem to folow on the step of the previous games. and it's not as if 3 minutes of trailer where showing you all the content of the game.

    7. And yet Black Panther is DLC, what's the point.

  2. Story Mode looks good to me. I think Zero is part of the "6 Character DLC" that comes with the deluxe edition. If he is confirmed playable, this is instabuy for me.

X and Zero team all the way!

    1. I doubt that. He's already done.
The DLC won't be "polished" (probably) until the end.

The game play looks fine. But the dubbing and some of the character models appear off.
Fortunately, if there is a JP voice option, that's one problem solved.
And since the game is even being made in the first place, it's worth forgiving the rest.

    2. 🤢 eh, to this day I wish TvC was fully dubbed. The Japanese voice for VJ for example is beyond repugnant

      Delete
    3. Anon 1: Dubbing? This is in English first, and you do realize Marvel characters will never speak Japanese in these games. The Capcom characters sound fine. What are you going on about?

      Delete
    4. Didn't MVC3 have Japanese and English voices for all characters?

      Delete
    5. I'm not seeing it. Story mode looks passable at best. The locations look dull or lifted fron the last Avengers movie. It looks like it's taking itself too seriously in spite of the banter from characters like Arthur, Rocket and Dante. Strider couldn't sound anymore stock, and Chris sounds like a meathead. At least Chun Li sounds sexy sometimes.

    6. Anon 4: MvC3 did have a Japanese voice option but only for the Capcom characters. Why in the world would you want to hear Marvel characters in Japanese anyway? That's an awful thought. Those terrible Marvel anime productions are proof the Japanese don't get out superheroes at all.

  3. Game in terms of gameplay looks cool especially Thanos and Zero. The art style of the game could use some work tho, it is not graphically bad it's just designed unpleasantly in many ways.

    Looks good overall.

  4. X's voice unfortunately isn't great from what i've heard in game, wish they'd tried to emulate Mark Gatha.

    1. No way, dude. I was happy to hear that he doesn't sound like Gatha.

      Delete
    2. I agree. His voice is way higher than Gatha's and sounds very unfitting for such a serious character like X.

      Delete
    3. When will X get a decent voice?

      Delete
  5. I wonder who is voicing X? I still have Mark Gatha in my mind as X's voice.

I guess Johnny Young Bosch will probably reprise Zero.

    1. I dunno either, but it sounds like Ted Sroka also known as Dan Hibiki in Street ...which isn't okay with me.

  6. Wish they'd tried to emulate Mark Gatha for X's voice

  7. So, the million dollar question: who is the new English dub voice of X?

  8. I mean, if Zero ends up being playable, I guess that's nice, but he, like a lot of the characters in the leaked list (that's looking pretty accurate based on the story trailer), is just another returning character from MvC3. Unless this is the start of a good handful of characters the leak missed, it's not enough.

Honestly, Dragon Ball FighterZ did a lot to take away a fair bit of the hype from this game.

    1. Yeah, I'm not getting this game. I'd rather have fun with DBZ instead.

  9. Sounds like a better version of Beck to me. Maybe it's the same guy?

    1. Definitely not Yuri Lowenthal. If it was, he'd sound way better than whoever is voicing X now.

  10. in the Demo, when Cap uses his shield to give X a jump boost. he uses his SHINING FINGERS like in the Maverick Hunter woah!

    1. That's not the Shining Finger. That's just the Nova Strike without the Ultimate Armor.

  11. This really is a budget title. Everything either looks recycled from MVC3 or worse. Really sucks that Capcom can't seem to put more money into a title like this. Then again, it only seems like yesterday that SF4 and MVC3 came out. Time flies.

  12. Strider is in, Zero is in, X is in, Black Panther is in... look good to me, i'll regret Storm and dr.Doom, but for the rest i could live without the X-men. (not as if my favorites characters from the x-men comics where in MvsC3 anyway).
hope there will be Dormammu and Akuma.
while the main intrigue seem to take from marvel more than Capcom, i do hope that the Capcom character get a piece of the cake in therm of things to do. (on that matter, Marvel have more "large scale threat" anyway, so this is'nt surprising, even without taking on account that they're tyin' to the mcu).
Now, if someone could tell me that spiderman is in?

    1. Supposedly someone datamined the story demo and found data for Dormammu, Haggar, and a couple of other folks from MVC3. If it's true, it confirms what we already should know after seeing Zero play: they're recycling content from MVC3, and they're keeping most of them as on-disc DLC.

I feel kinda bad for Capcom when they think they need to do stuff like this. Why, when they released UMVC3 so recently? People are already modding that game.

  13. Still looking for a pre-order anywhere OTHER than GameStop for the collector's edition.

  14. I'm gonna start off by saying that I'm having mixed feelings about this game, despite being excited for the original Maverick Hunter trio of X, Zero and Sigma making it in.

    Here goes.

Yeah, X's new voice isn't cutting it for me. His lines don't match his personality either; "in a cinch" sounds nothing like anything he would ever say (and even Archie got his character right in the comics). From the way they portrayed him, he seems less serious than he actually is, which doesn't sit well with me at all. Meanwhile, Zero gets to keep his character and sound decent at least (even though I prefer Lucas Gilbertson over JYB as Zero any day, but I think Ray Chase would definitely be a better replacement since he sounds somewhat similar to Lucas). I was honestly expecting Yuri Lowenthal or some new talent like Xander Mobus or Max Mittelman to become the new voice of X (even though I was hoping for Dave Wittenberg after hearing him in Android Kikaider), but this guy, whoever he is, is not buying it for me.

I'll refrain from mentioning the visuals since it seems to be one of the most common issues, but there are very few newcomers so far if we're to follow those Ryce leaks. This is concerning because the producers claimed that this game was supposed to be used to revive dormant Capcom franchises. Unless they end up as paid DLC. Even still, it wouldn't excuse the base roster having so few new characters to choose from.

Story demo was... very meh. The stages didn't look that very interesting, actors sounded extremely bored as if they were just reading from the script, and cheesy lines did nothing but make me cringe. Gameplay, however, is a bit fun if you turn off auto combos. X and Captain Marvel were especially fun to play as and I can see them being top to mid tier. My main isssue though is that it seems like it's harder to gain meter for some reason as if the gauge takes longer to fill. Either that or I suck at these games. Another problem I have is that when hyper combos connect, it's lacking that 'oomf' from the past four Marvel games; the over-the-top excitement is gone as the game is now trying to take a more serious approach this time around which kinda sucks because that is what made MVC what it is, IMO.

Anyway, even though it probably won't happen, I think this game should be delayed for another six months at least to resolve the issues I and others have with it. Wishful thinking, but I would be satisfied if they touched up the graphics, expanded the roster, re-recorded lines and fixed the script, and gave X a better voice actor. Other than that, I'm worried this game will do very well if Capcom/Marvel sticks to their original release date. It's like what Shigeru Miyamoto said, "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

  15. No way I'm buying a POS4 for this 2nd rate installment. It looks worse than MvC3.

  16. I've played many X series games since the 90s to CM rpg, and honestly I'm happy to see X's more not-as-"serious" confident, and friendly tone. I really don't understand the western hard-core subjectivity fandom here, because while the series was more serious and dark than the Rock Man boy robot, it wasn't THAT serious where it was devoid of humor or positive fun qualities of characters. I mean come on, we have bosses in games that is like a talking mushroom for example. I find X's personality here comes off as if he is much more confident and focused in his abilities and goals, hence he is more open to showing his friendly fun side, and it also reflects some 1995 Japanese I have of him. I think the issue stems from our culture that since the mid-90s have been increasingly growing towards glorifying cynicism and dead-serious tones in any mythology or entertainment, seeing any fictional character somewhat step out of that framework for any reason just isn't acceptable anymore. These types of complaints and views do not exist anywhere else outside of a small demographic of upbringing and groups.

    1. I mostly feel the same way. From what we've seen of the story demo, this is shaping up to be a pretty poor venue to debut the character's return to mainstream gaming, but I think it's at least a step in the right direction. I feel the same way about his VA, though like with the rest of the game, I think the VA strike is affecting it.

I never liked how X was pigeonholed into being a perpetually conflicted character with pacifist leanings. He came off as dorky and annoying, and it never helped that he was always in Zero's shadow. I always wanted him to be more like Zero, but not exactly like him. I want to see him grin more and show confidence, conviction, gumption, be appealing and badass for a change.

      Delete
    2. Except in this game, he seems like a complete joke; getting beaten and looking quite weak and pathetic despite being the most powerful character in his series. Whereas in contrast, Zero retains his character and is most likely going to outshine X and look more badass than him (like always). If that wasn't the case, then I wouldn't have a problem with his personality here.

  17. Correction on my previous post: 1995 manga of the X series I have on him.

Gah, I was up too late one could say.

  18. really we saw like 3 minute of story about a plot thread with Thanos. that would be hardly much of stretch to tell that "the story will suxxxx" already.
yeah, you will tell me that a trailer should show the best the story have to offer, and that'd be right.
but i think their goal was'nt even to promote the story in this. it was much of a "Thanos is in! and so are Zero, Gamora..." you get the point. after all, the main appeal of theses kinds of crossover games is which character is included in the rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  19. not that convinced by X voice in this trailer either, but i don't think i have heard enough to call it no good. let's keep our head cool.
many time have i heard a voice that did'nt convince me in a trailer but ended up just fine in the end.
Also, no need to complain about it not sounding "serious", We're talking about X, not Batman or dunno who.
Yes, he is quite serious in attitude (then again, fighting in the maverick war, it is to be expected, you're expected to act seriousely in such circumstance), but "serious" is'nt the word i would use to describe him personality wise.
more like Level-headed, determined, strong_willed, active, carring.i'd even dare saying optimist. optimism being a recuring theme in the Megaman Serie (you can even find some of it in Megaman Zero, despite this serie having the Darker tone out of them)
Zero would be serious (especially post X4), implacable.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Mark gatha's voice, and as i say, i'm still waiting to hear more of the new VA to see if he can convince me.
My comment only was about this fixation on seriousness.

    1. It's not about his VA sounding "serious", it's about fitting the character in general, and whoever this new guy is doesn't fit X at all; the voice does not match the character one bit and he sounds like dork, nerdy kid as if he were a caricature of himself. If he had a more fitting voice then I wouldn't mind his slight personality change.
