Mega Man Meets Mega Man X In An Unlikely Crossover

It's every fanboy's (and fangirl's) dream to have a classic and X series crossover. Two Mega Men, from two different eras, coming together to vanquish evil. Aside from a short-lived comic series from Dreamwave and an episode of the Ruby-Spears cartoon, classic Mega and X have never crossed paths in a game... or have they?

Enter Rockman Tennis; the 2007 Japanese exclusive mobile phone game where Rockman company compete in, simply put, a tennis tournament. While neat in its own right, the title holds something very significant that would have gone unnoticed to most if not for YouTuber Megacocorock. Turns out, Rockman X is an unlockable playable character, purchasable in the in-game shop -- thus marking the first time, in an official Capcom game, the two creations of Dr. Light come face to face:

Okay, so a tennis match isn't the neatest venue for the two to meet, but pretty cool we got to see something like this happen, even if it was through a series of still images (the video itself, according to the author, wasn't intended to show off X in play, but his theme music -- hence the lack of actual gameplay. Still, you get the idea).

One has to wonder if this will be the last time Mega Man and X will meet. If not, maybe the next opportunity will be a little more action oriented and not a competition in athletic ability.

  6. Saito: I covered Rockman Tennis before as a game, yes, but back then I had no idea X was unlockable.

  10. It still pisses me off that they canceled the Mega Man comic series. I was so psyched and ready to take the monthly trip to the comic book store to get my monthly Mega Man fix.
