Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Launches Today

Friendly reminder: Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite goes live today. For fans of a certain blue Maverick Hunter, the fourth entry in the series finally brings X, Zero and Sigma together under one roof. That's not to say Sigma will be available at launch – quite the opposite. The Deluxe Edition of the game includes Sigma and six other future characters slated to drop later this year. Anyway, point is Infinite will finally do Mega Man X fans right.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. I'm on PS4 this time round. I'll see you online!

Enjoy!

    1. If it does well enough, they may port it. Seems to be the logic they're following. Or they may have existing deals with Sony/Microsoft that obligates them not to do business with Nintendo.

    2. Same for me, like for legacy collection, no Switch version ? Boycott.

How do you do a deal with one of the big three that only excludes one of their competitors? That makes no sense.

    4. Nintendo has only ever had 2 VS games (CvS2 & TvC) so it's no surprise it's not on it. Also, Capcom has games on & coming to the Switch so I'm sure we'll see more Capcom games than they gave the N64 as time goes on.

  3. Gotta love it when game companies give you the ability to pre-order on-disc DLC.

Or, you know, pre-order DLC, in general.

    All-digital gaming. What a revolution.

    1. Exactly how I feel about it. Why are you announcing the fun I can have a month after the 60 dollars I just dropped on the game. You're already saying this product is obsolete before it is even at retail. Oh well coulda got those easter eggs and that game for 200, glad I held off. I'm already in an abusive realtionship with sfv (he loves me that's why he hurts me) can't continue to support such poor effort while waiting for dbfz

I don't think Infinite did any one thing right by any fan of each of its respective source material. As far as plots go, this feels more like a rough draft that had barely been revised; the story has some fantastic elements that could have been executed better, most of which I won't spoil for those who have not completed the game. Ultron Sigma could have been a much more compelling villain, given both portions of its origin. I do appreciate that characters, concepts, and locales from the X series exist, but like everything else present in this three hour lackluster story mode, nothing is prominent enough, nor does it have any impact or weight to keep anyone invested; things just simply happen to move the plot forward. The dialogue is so stilted and poorly delivered for almost anyone, but it's criminally so for X.

This game could have set the standard for crossovers. Gameplay-wise, it's still high-octane and a great time with friends, but there are critical balancing issues, and as far as nuanced and balanced gameplay goes, there are better fighters out there for you to play. It's not going to compete with heavy hitters like Injustice 2, by a long shot. The roster is passable, but I think I speak for others when this game craps on the legacy that it represents by not adding a single X-Men or Fantastic Four character, purely due to a licensing pissing contest with FOX. Not having Deadpool around when you bloody well have Death herself as a prominent character is one hell of a missed opportunity.

The only novelty that this game is going to provide for most in the MM community is the fact that you can play as X, Zero, and Sigma. It'll give you eight to ten hours of solid enjoyment as you find your preferred gameplay style, while treading through the story mode, and whatever have you with versus matches. Everyone tread lightly and wait for a price drop. Sixty dollars isn't worth this mess.

    1. It's a fighting game. If you're only going to play 8 hours of your favourite character, then the game is clearly not for you.

There's a sense of enjoyment of taking your favourite brawling team to be become an online warrior or at local tourneys.

If that means going to town with X/Zero against the world, so be it.

This game does the series more justice than ANYTHING else we had in the past few years. Hell, the last one wasn't even from Capcom but Nintendo in Smash.

    2. If you think Injustice of all things delivers better fighting gameplay with more depth than MvC:I, I don't know what else to say outside of I can't take your opinion seriously.

As for the MvC:I story, everyone and their mom knew it was gonna be hot cheese, but the story mode isn't the problem. The problem is whiny @$$ casuals not even fans of fighting games buying them for the wrong reasons then dropping them after a week for the new hotness. Thus making companies like Capcom's fighting game division who has no experience in said "wrong reasons" (like cinematic story mode), shoehorn them into the development of the game taking away from more important things like graphics, art design (first game in the series not spear headed by an official artist and it shows), music and overall presentation polish, which is necessary because Capcom fighters are games that are heavily played and observed by many intensely thus subject to visual scrutiny for years if not forevermore. This almost makes them have to make visuals far ahead of their time or highly stylized, which costs heavy investment, but they instead have to divert to story mode.

Also Capcom isn't owned by Marvel or Disney, they have to PAY to use Marvel characters and they have a time limit to use them, half the time those two companies hang Capcom out to dry, unlike NRS who can take their sweet time investing in fluff people play once and never return to backed by Warner money that owns the DC license.

    1. i'll wait 5 months before it get announced just like when they did that with UMVC3. MvC3 didn't last 5 months before it became obsolete.

    Zero's theme

X vs Zero theme (Only in the story mode)

Some people have pointed out that you can hear Sigma's X2 theme in parts of Ultron Sigma's theme, since Ultron has parts of that theme in his theme its very likely Sigma is gonna get his X2 theme as a remix.

    1. The X2 chords (parts?) are most evident in the last fight, but yeah, wonder when we'll get to hear Sigma's proper fight theme.

    2. Wow. The X vs Zero theme is boring.

    3. The X vs Zero theme was always boring. Never go it's hype. The 1st 15 seconds of it in X5 was awesome & I was amped to hear some kind of rocking track to battle to, but then it was just ok at best after those 15 seconds :/

    4. Heh. It at least had more "song" to it than Zero's X2 theme, but you're right. I think the remixes of the song sound better than the original, while X2's theme is solid in spite of the repetitive nature.

    5. Nah X vs Zero is awesome, no need for shredding nonstop guitar carnage noise that gives even the hardest of metal heads brain aneurysms and bleed through the ears.

I am grateful that every Mega Man track not just this one is melodically and tactfully paced in orientation first even the more energetic ones like Central White is well paced and coherent so to speak.

  8. Got MvsCInf game two days ago. I'm getting hang in there while I'm in training, with X, Zero, and Ryu.
