Red Joker Unveiled

The long awaited October Coro Coro is here and with it comes our first look at the 'Red Joker' version of SSR3.

The scoop:

-Each version has its own set of Cards, Noise Changes and Finalized Forms.

-Game features ten "Terror Noises", dark/evil versions of the known Noise Changes. Not much else is known.

-Defeating a foe with a ratio of 100% will reward you a random Card.

-Ratio indicates foe's 'invisibility status. '(?)

-Wave Command Cards are returning, now referred to as "Noise Modification Gear." They come in three variations: Noise Cards (increases abilities, combine five cards), Reason Cards ( Strengthen Finalize Forms and share benefits from your assembled "Team" consisting of real world friends) and White Cards (Allows you to recieve more in game White Cards, similar to Blank Cards)

And Now, A Word From Inafune

The Rockman 9 website has finally updated. The update consists of a new tab aptly named "Special Content." Here, you can watch a special video message from Inafune in moonspeak (Japanese). Apparently, this message was screened for attendees at the Rockman Summer Festival. So, anybody care to translate?

Inafune Talks Future X Series Titles, RM9 Continuity

Keiji Inafune sat down with the Brazilian Nintendo magazine, "Nintendo World" to discuss all things Rockman. Most of the stuff we've heard again and again, but a few tidbits stood out:

NW: The remakes Maverick Hunter X and Powered Up didn't reach the expected sales. Even so, are there plans to take them to Nintendo consoles or remake them as sequels?

KI: There are no plans to make remakes [of a remake?!] or sequels of these titles at the moment.

NW: Why is the X series over? Is there any intention of continuing it?

KI: It's not that the X series is over, but we're giving it a break. We hope to make more sequels in the future.

NW: Where in the chronology do Mega Man 9 fit in? Will Mega Man 9 be the last episode of the Classic series? Is Mega Man & Bass part of the main chronology?

KI: Basically, the chronology was made to follow Mega Man 8 and be the last/latest in the series. The world of Mega Man & Bass exists paralel to Mega Man 9.

Maybe the idea of an X9 isn't so far fetched? Only time will tell.

More details from the interview soon!

Rockman X2 Project File Thingie Up For Auction

Not too sure just what exactly this is, but it's certainly something collectors may want to look at.

From the pictures alone, it looks like the 'Project File' is an organizer/calculator/handheld game hybrid. Perfect item for the new school year! Oh yeah, and it's made by Bandai, dubbing it an official Rockman product.

You can bid on the item at ebay, starting price of $24.99 plus the added $7.99 shipping.

Rockman 9 Music Samples

Apparently, these samples came Inside-Games' Rockman 9 promotion. How generous of them!

Convincing Rockman 9 Rumors Surface (DLC,Release Date)

“SSJ4”, an individual claiming to have played the final version of Rockman 9, has requested I post up some tidbits on the blog. Be forewarned, I don't know how trusting this source is, but the tidbits sound awfully convincing.

SSJ4's quotes:

Downloadable Content
"-DLC is intact for all three versions (Wii,XBLA,PSN).

-Access to DLC is on the Boss Select screen, bottom right corner.

-Capcom plans to upload new content every so often. Possibility DLC won't be available until two to three weeks after the game releases. (speaking of the game's release, Wii users can look forward towards the 22nd of this month...although they've discussed delaying it till the following week due to a BIG Virtual Console title that might take the attention away from RM9)

-Noteworthy DLC:
+Buster Shot Mods: Buster can fire different kinds of pellets such as a three way spread buster and a homing shot. No weapon energy used.

+Shooting Star Rockman: Rockman from the Shooting Star series is a playable character. Once downloaded, you can equip him in the Costume menu. (Japan only)
+Remixed Music: Download remixed BGMs, replaces 8-bit music.

+Title screens: Download new title screen images. One in particular, features Rock and friends "jumping for joy."

+Blues: Yes, Blues is playable. Has his own set of moves/attacks. (Actually, he kinda sucks. Controls to loosely.)

+Auto messages: At some point in the game, Auto converses with Rock. This download changes what he talks about. One message featured Auto giving Rock his horoscope .

-DLC may or may not be “free.” Capcom is considering options to make DLC redeemable. Wants to reward players for hard work.
-Plans a years worth of DLC.

Miscellaneous:
-RM9 was developed on Wii hardware, exclusive to Wii in Japan. XBLA Achievement are Capcom USA's doing. Not worth your time.

-RM9 was concieved as a brand new series, started out as a pet project at Inti.

-I've been told Capcom was fiddling around with two Rockman Wii titles prior to RM9's development, both have been shelved. Hiatus. (Scramble Battle?)

-RM9would not have existed without fan support. Future RM9 like titles will be fueled by fan support.

-I've played the XBLA and PSN versions, don't compare to Wii version controller wise. D-Pad on Xbox controller ruins the experience. PS3 D-pad is unresponsive. Wii remote controls are tight, perfect emulation of NES control.

-XBLA and PS3 versions felt like rushed ports of Wii version. Actually, they are merely ports. No touch ups.
"

Interesting, interesting.

I find the Septmember 22nd release to be highly convincing, especially since this happened hours ago at GoNintendo:

"KingBroly tells us that in the latest Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast, the gang is talking about their embargoed Mega Man 9 review. Apparently, they cannot post it up until September 22nd. Hmmm...that lines up with a Monday perfectly!"

I should mention, SSJ4 contacted me this past Friday, requesting to post this up on Tuesday (today). Why? I don't know, tipsters can be weird like that.

Regardless...don't get your hopes up! Keep an open mind and we'll see what happens.

Rockman 9 Invades Inside-Games

To promote Rockman 9 (releasing sometime this month), Inside-Games has given their site a 'Rockman makeover.' The homepage features fun little widgets, animations, icons and other nooks and cranies featuring the Blue Bomber.

Capcom is going all out with promoting Rockman 9: E-Cans, merchandise, intentional crappy box art, events and now this. They really deserve a big round of applause.

What Capcom Didn't Want Us To See - 'EXE 5DS' In Full 3D

It's simply amazing what developers hide inside completed games. Users at Sprites Inc. have discovered what appears to be lost 3D elements from Rockman EXE 5 DS inside the Ryuusei no Rockman 1 ROM.

Notable 3D elements include character models for Netto, Rockman.EXE, Netto's room and a full 3D Akihabara Town. Speculation indicates these textures are from a work in progress version of EXE 5 DS, one that aimed to be much "bigger" (in terms of scale) compared to the likes of the final product. Others have speculated (and this is a long shot) these textures were from an unused EXE 7 concept.

Check out the topic at Sprites Inc. for more pics and future discoveries.

Hopefully one of these days, we'll get a real update on SSR3. I'm curious as to what Red Joker will offer.

Just Who Is Tatsunoko Anyway?

With all this talk of 'Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom', many are left clueless as to who Tatsunoko is. Who are they and how do the relate to Capcom?

Tatsunoko is a very famous animation company in Japan, so famous it can be compared to the likes of the Warner Bros. animation subsidiary ("Animaniacs", "Superman"/"Batman" animated series)

Founded in 1962 by Ippei Kuri, Tatsunoko produced numerous animated series that are now hailed as "animated classics" such as "Mach Go Go Go" (aka Speed Racer), "Gatchaman", "Yatterman", "Superbook" and my personal favorite "Samurai Pizza Cats."

Notably, Tatsunoko also co-animated the highly controversial series, "Neon Genesis Evangelion," regarded as the 'greatest anime of all time.' (Seriously. Watch this and you're whole perception of the world will change. It's that good.)

So, does Tatsunoko have any relation to Capcom?

Xebec Inc., who provided the animation for numerous Rockman television adaptions and in- game cutscenes (RM8, X4,IHX) is a subsidary of Production IG, a branched company of Tatsunoko. Small world, no?

The Capcom/Tatsunoko connection goes beyond animating Rockman. Numerous Capcom characters were based off of popular Tatsunoko heroes. For example, Harp Note of Ryuusei no Rockman fame is based off of Yatterman's "Ai Chan." (left)

Speaking of Yatterman, the antics of the Bonne family from Rockman DASH resemble the antics of Yatterman's antagonists, the 'Dorombo Gang.' Like the Bonne family, Dorombo is always striving to obtain treasure and wealth, sometimes through the aide of home made giant robots. Sound familiar?

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is slated for a release this winter releasing on arcades and possibly Nintendo's Wii (RUMOR). Don't get your hopes up for a localization, even though Capcom USA has stated "their working on it."
