Inafune Denies Cataclysm Theory+Answers Your Questions!

As promised, Keiji Inafune, the father of Rockman has faithfully answered Capcom-Unity Member's questions...in particular my submitted question...

"Did Zero really "kill" the family between the events of the Classic Mega Man and X series? "

KI: "No, Zero did not kill them. According to the way I created him, Zero is not such a person--it is not in his profile."

Music to my ears! He finally came out and deconfirmed the theory, ending years and years of speculation.

In related news, here's the other questions Inafune answered:

2) Any plan to create more games for the Mega Man X series? What about Rockman Dash/Mega Man Legends?

KI: I would love to do more games in the Mega Man Legends and X series, but the business of these games must be considered. Passion and creativity are great, but the reality is that they must be balanced with profitability.

In the case of Mega Man 9, the chance to create it as a downloadable title made this great idea a financial possibility and we did it. We must always search for ways to minimize our risks while also creating great games.

3) What's your favorite hobby when you aren't making games?

KI: I work a lot but in my spare time I enjoy photography, going to the movies, and basically anything unrelated to work. Beyond being enjoyable for their own sake, these hobbies also give me new ideas for games. For instance, the photography mechanic in Dead Rising came from my personal fondness for taking interesting pictures.

4) What was the inspiration for Sigma?

KI: Some people think he might have been inspired by Sagat from Street Fighter because of his look, but that's not actually the case. Sigma and Zero basically represent the idea that nothing is absolute. Sigma was a powerful leader of the Maverick Hunters but after Zero passed the virus to him, his allegiance changed. Circumstances can change anything, and nothing is absolute.

5) Have you ever considered a Rockman fighting game? What about other genres of Mega Man games like shooters or MMOs, or RTS?

KI: I have always considered Mega Man as I conceived it to be basically an action game, so I have not personally thought a lot about other genres of Mega Man games.

6) What happened to Dr. Wily in Rockman X series? Are Dr. Wily and Dr. Weil the same person? Were they ever supposed to be?

KI: A large amount of time has passed between the classic series and Mega Man X. Dr. Wily had died in the interim but was brought back by the virus. Dr. Wily and Weil are not the same person. It is ironic though, because Dr. Wily created Zero, and Dr. Weil used Zero, but ultimately it was a copy of Zero's original body with a different mind that defeated him.

7) Do you think we'll ever see Mega Man in a Smash Brothers game?

KI: That is probably a question better suited for Nintendo than for Capcom. If they were to ask, I see no reason to say no. We'll see what happens.

8) Would you consider making a two-player coop Mega Man game for consoles?

KI: I think this is quite difficult--even close to impossible with the current style of Mega Man. With a different style of game, I think this could be possible.

9) If there are more MM games, is there any chance you will revive the Robot Master community contest where people submit their own Robot Master designs?

KI: If Mega Man 9 becomes a big success and we were to make Mega Man 10, I think our activities with and connectedness to the fans through the internet mean we could certainly bring back this contest.

10) What does your office look like?

KI: Actually it is almost completely decorated by the creations of fans. It is stuffed with drawings, paintings, toys, and every other kind of creation that people have given me over the years.

MegaMan 3 Hits U.S Mobile Phones

Love MegaMan 3? Got a mobile phone?

Capcom USA has begun distributing MM3 to mobile phones nationwide. Hurray! However, the game is only available to these specific carriers: 'AT&T', 'Sprint' and 'T-Mobile.' Sorry 'Verizon' users :(

Unlike numerous Japanese versions, this one is (supposedly) the complete MM3 experience, Wily stages and all. A nice deal for only $5.99.

Zero and Rockman.EXE Cameo In the CW's '90210'

From Kotaku:

"The new 90210 premiered last night on the CW, and they are obviously in dire need of a video game company to come along and offer up some product placement. In this clip, characters Navid and Dixon (normal teenager names, no really) mash away at a couple of black Xbox 360 controllers while playing what appears to be an early flash animation. It's rather embarrassing when television shows have to resort to this sort of thing, so I urge video game publishers to contact the major networks as soon as possible to work out some kind of deal. Failing that, create a video game for me that allows me to exclaim, "Sweet dude, you ate my head!" at my friends. I actually say this a lot, but it would be nice to have some context."

E-Can Beverage Has Honey Bee Bodily Fluid After Taste

ITMedia's +D has gotten a hold of the E-Can beverage, easing our curiosity with a report on the product's contents.

The gist of it: The liquid inside is clear as water, taste's like your average sports drink with an added 'Royal Jelly' kick. So...what is Royal Jelly you ask?

"Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion that is used in the nutrition of the larvae. It is secreted from the hypopharyngeal glands in the heads of young workers and used (among other substances) to feed all of the larvae in the colony, including those destined to become workers. If a queen is needed, a larva is chosen and will receive only royal jelly — and in large quantities — as its food source for the first four days of its growth, and this rapid, early feeding triggers the development of queen morphology, including the fully developed ovaries needed to lay eggs. Some commercial royal jelly suppliers disseminate misinformation such as "Only queen larvae and adult queens are fed royal jelly". All larvae in a colony are fed royal jelly, and adult bees do not consume it at all."

Umm...gross?

I don't know about you, but I'm not putting that into my body. No sir. But hey, at least the aluminum can is cool.

The Art of CubeeCraft

So I saw these CubeeCraft things last night on Adult Swim and I was like, "hey that's pretty cool." I planned on printing out the Lagann craft as it was a 'rank 1', but my attention was soon drawn to the MegaMan and Servbot craft. With no hesitation, I printed out both and got down to business.

Twelve hours later, I'm still hard at work on Mega's arms.

Anyway, if you're into this kind of thing, check out CubeeCraft and give the MegaMan characters a go. Of course there are plenty of other cool characters such as Hellboy, Duck Hunt Dog and Rorschach.

The Mystery of SSR3's 'Side View'

Shooting Star Rockman 3 will mark the return of the beloved “Side View” view of the EXE series...or so it seems.

The last time we've heard any mention of the side view was way back in July's Coro Coro. Since then, we've only seen screens and videos of the third person camera style from previous Shooting Star games. What happened to the side view? Is it still being implemented? Has it been totally dropped?

Rumors around the net have indicated that the side view is an optional feature which can be toggled on/off. PRC reader, 'RoboX' has confirmed this.

'RoboX' a resident of Japan, was fortunate enough to attend the recent Rockman Summer Festival. She had sometime to watch SSR3 in action, and took note that the side view can be toggled on/off simply by pausing the game in battle and selecting “Camera ON.”

RoboX mentioned the name 'side view' is slightly misleading, it should be labeled as a 'pseudo side view' as the camera is positioned to the side and risen up so one can see the battlefeild in its entirety.

The side view adds nothing to the gameplay of SSR3; Rockman is still restricted to the back row, though he can leap forward with the infamous WarRock Attack.

Speaking of the WarRock Attack, RoboX also mentioned SSR3's 'WarRock Attack camera' is intense. When using a WarRock attack in previous games, the camera would zoom in on the action. In SSR3 however, the camera will reposition itself in all sorts of dramatic angles. But, this only applies to the third person view, there are no fancy angles in the side view.

SSR3 sounds like it's shaping up to be a winner. Capcom is going all out to differentiate the title from its predecessors. Though I do wish they would give the overworld a face lift. I'm all for sprites, but some 3D elements couldn't hurt, right?

Leaked GalaxyMan Stage Footage

These leaks just won't stop! This time it's footage of GalaxyMan's stage from the trial version of Rockman 9 (recently demoed at the Rockman Summer Festival). If you listen closely, you can hear the stage's background music, which might I add, sounds quite upbeat!

My God...This Is Awesome

Look at this thing. Just look at it. Is that not awesome or what?

What we have here is a Prometheus "garage kit", displayed and sold at the recent 'World Hobby Fair' in Japan. Want it? It can be yours for the whopping price of 6,900 Yen (Around $66.00 USD)

Take note! The seller underlines the fact that the kit is un-built and un-painted, so it's up to you to make it look as awesome as it does in the pic.

'Rockman Mobile' Roll Gameplay

About a year ago, Capcom of Japan released a enhanced port of Rockman 1 for mobile phones. Unlike previous ports, the game was the complete Rockman 1 experience (previous ports lacked the Wily Stages) with a little something extra: the option to play as Roll.

Awesome indeed. One has to wonder, will Rockman 9 allow us to play as Roll once again? I certainly hope so.
