It’s happening, folks. Udon Entertainment has officially announced that they will continue Archie Comics’ Mega Man series under the Mega Man Adventures banner.
The new comic will pick up directly after issue #55 and begin an adaptation of Mega Man 4. Future issues will carry two numbers to reflect both runs, meaning the first installment will be released as both Archie’s issue #56 and Udon’s issue #0.
The comic will be written by Ian Flynn with artwork by Chad Thomas and is currently targeting a November or December 2026 release.

LITERALLY FREAKING OUTTTTT AAAAAAAAAGH! GREATEST NEWS OF THE ENTIRE MONTH HOLY SMOKES MY GAAAWD! Archie Mega Man means the universe to me, it doesnt feel real. This feels like a dream that this is coming back. I can't believe this is real, its genuinely a dream come true.

ReplyDeleteI waited to see proof that the Archie run was going to continue under Udon comics, and now that I see it, I'm smiling inside and outside. For the longest time, any interaction I had with Megaman revolved around only the first three entries: my brother had the original 1-3 on the NES & I only played a little of 4 before it was returned to the rental store and never played it again or 5 & 6 until the Anniversary Collection. Then the Archie run goes through the first three games, a semi-adaption of Powered Up, Super Adventure, and two crossovers with Sonic the Hedgehog, but stops just as the 4th game was about to start. After that, the Mastermix Run goes through the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd games with the Metal Heart epilogue to the third game attached before it ended.
ReplyDeleteI was beginning to think there was some sort of bad juju surrounding these adaptations, that some force just wanted things to revolve around the first three games and damned any that tried to go to the fourth and beyond. I'm glad to see that this storyline gets to continue on and I get to share that enthusiasm with everyone else.
This is great news. Hopefully they reprint the entire original run. I got the old run in trades and they never finished it.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who's been in the fandom for nearly a decade now, it's surreal seeing the Archie comics get a continuation after so long. Can't wait for issue 56!

monkey's paw? I mean... same guy who wrote the archie run? they got the same writer for the same series? oh, such monkey paw, we got the series to continue, but at the price of the same writer continuing the same series! woe I say! woe!
DeleteI have issues with Flynn as well, but his skill as a writer is not one of him. He overall did a great job with the original run, and I have high expectations for his work in the future. I worry a little bit about his inclinations towards inserting his own ideological worldview over honoring the artistic direction and legacy of the source material, but the outright hatred some people display towards him comes off as rather silly and irrational. If you enjoyed the series so far, you've already enjoyed Flynn's work. So why cry out in lament now over more of the same?
DeleteIan "Praise my work or I'll ban you" Flynn is a complete hack. Worst of all, he doesn't even care about Mega Man. He just happened to be on Archie's staff when the opportunity to write Mega Man came along. And because he's a complete amateur who works for scale, he got the job by default.
DeleteHis characters all talk like internet trolls, his stories are incoherent and his idea of creativity is to pluck obscure references from Wikipedia and insert them into his writing. And I'm convinced the reason we got no less than two lengthy crossover events with the Archie Sonic comics was because Flynn was bored writing Mega Man and only thing that could ignite his interest was bringing Sonic into the story. Either that or he simply wasn't capable of juggling the responsibility of writing two monthly titles every month so he combined them into one single story to lighten his dubious work load.
I've been a Mega Man fan for almost 40 years, and I've been waiting for a Mega Man comic since Valiant teased the possibility of one way back in the letter column of their Super Mario Bros. comics. I was pissed when the Dreamwave comic was abruptly cancelled and when the Archie comic came out I made sure to buy as many copies of each issue as I could. But Ian Flynn's writing did the impossible: It made me unsubscribe. And that's why I have only the worst expectations for this book. because I know it will be more of the same. Flynn is an egotistical hack who can't accept critical feedback and surrounds himself with suck-ups who praise him constantly, therefore he cannot grow as a writer and an artist. So what hope is there that this continuation will be any kind of improvement over the Archie book?
