Following the reveal of Atomic Marshmallow's exclusive variant, Udon Entertainment has now unveiled all four standard covers for Mega Man X #5, the final chapter in the Mega Man X mini-series.
Cover A is illustrated by Hanzo Steinbach, Cover B by Edwin Huang, Cover C by James Raiz, and Cover D by Jeffrey "Chamba" Cruz.
In case you missed it, here's the official solicitation:
"It's the final issue, and the final climactic battle: X versus Sigma! X will have to use every weapon, armor piece, and secret technique in his arsenal to hold his own against the leader of the Mavericks!"
Pre-orders are available now from Udon Store. Issue #5 is expected to arrive in-stores July 29th.

Hopefully this is the last and final issue for sure and they don't touch the rest of the X series. Such a boring read with mediocre art and "writing", with gooner bait/obligatory objectification of the only two female characters in issue #2.
ReplyDeleteWholeheartedly agreed. The announcement of new MM comics was a dream come true for me, and I was so hoping for exciting original stories and interesting takes on existing ones in the games, like we had in the Archie Comics. What we’ve had from Udon so far has been dull and disappointing, and I hate to see ‘fanservice’ forced in there as well.
Delete…Seriously, no one bends their body like that when standing over a computer console.
If another Mega Man series got a comic with this level of writing, fans would complain immediately. But MMX fans don’t seem to have much critical sense; they accept anything. If this keeps going, the X series will never have a good story. At least the Dr. Wily comic will have a real writer.
Delete@Blue Absolutely. Especially about the fanservice part. What I liked about Archie was that they never sexualized the female characters. They were treated with respect and like humans instead of objects.
DeleteSince this is Udon, gooner bait is pretty much their thing, unfortunately. Especially with Street Fighter covers bordering on fetish bait, and giving Morrigan unrealistically large breasts.
It definitely comes across as relying on sex appeal to cover up their awful writing. If the art is pretty and appeals to a specific demographic, who cares, right? Talk about completely ignoring the majority of us normal Capcom fans. Especially women like myself.
@Cliff. Exactly. I remember valid criticism of the Classic series Archie run from fans instead of the endless glazing we're getting with the X comics from Udon.
It's so infuriating seeing my fellow X fans acting like this is the best thing ever, and offering no constructive critique whatsoever. It's just the same overzealous praise of an otherwise mediocre art style.
Especially from a certain YouTuber. I guess Classic fans have higher and more standards.
There's probably a 95% overlap between Classic and X fans, so treating them as two separate fanbases with differentiating morals or standards is silly.
DeleteI do agree with you about the "gooner bait" part, I don't care for any of Udon's other stuff and I wish they'd keep that crap out of their Mega Man comics, though it's definitely toned down from what they do elsewhere thankfully.
But let's not lose sight of the fact that your opinions are purely subjective. "Bad" writing, "mediocre" art are no different than the criticisms I saw for Ian Flynn's writing or Ariga's art style. Of course you're entitled to criticize it but putting down other fans for enjoying this comic is the kind of silly in-fighting that makes the fanbase look ungrateful.
Perhaps I was wrong about missing the overlap between Classic and X fans. However, it's nauseating to see endless constant glazing with no valid criticism.
DeleteThe writing IS bad. There's nothing groundbreaking or phenomenal about it. It's just oneliners and sound effects. I say this as someone who reads comics from juggernauts in the industry like DC and Marvel. The difference is night and day.
Also, no one's being ungrateful. No one literally asked for these comics. If anything, we wanted the Archie series to continue with a potential X series spinoff. Not comics from mediocre "writers" and artists from a company that's notorious for using gooner bait to attract sales.
Speaking of Archie, Ian Flynn and Ryan Jampole are infinitely still better than Dan Arseneault and Edwin Huang/Hanzo Steinbeck. There's no competition.
final issue? :(
ReplyDeletei thought it would be ongoing. oh well, fun while it lasted. hoping for more mega man comics after the doctor wily one. maybe original stories?
We need more X games, less side stuff for the X series. At least classic is continuing, but many of us here may prefer sequels of X, ZX, and even Legends more so. They are long overdue and need some love to balance it out.
