Mega Man: Dual Override Robot Master Design Contest Announced

For the first time in decades, Capcom has announced a new Robot Master design contest for the brand-new, 12th entry in the classic series: Mega Man Dual Override.

Taking a page from Mega Man 8’s history, the challenge this time is to design a Robot Master with a clear prompt: a robot who wields a giant suction arm on the right side. Capcom has provided a base model, and fans are encouraged to build their own ideas on top of it..

We are now taking entries on X (formerly Twitter) for a Robot Master Design Contest for Mega Man: Dual Override. Use the model above as the base to create your own unique design for a Robot Master with a giant suction arm!
We will be accepting designs from four regions: Japan, the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

How to Enter:

  1. Follow the official Mega Man account on X (@MegaMan). Capcom must be able to DM you if your entry advances.

  2. Post your design on your own X account using both required hashtags: #MegaManDO and #DesignARobotMaster.

  3. Include the title of your design, a short introduction, and your pen name. Pen names must use alphabetical characters if selected for credits.

  4. Only one design is allowed per post. Multiple entries are allowed if submitted from the same account.

The contest runs from December 11 at 8:00 PM PST to January 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST.

Design Requirements

All submissions must meet the following specifications:

  • JPG or PNG format

  • 16:9 aspect ratio

  • At least 1920×1080 pixels

  • 72 dpi

  • 2MB or smaller

  • Based on the “Robot with Suction Arm (Temp)” model

Digital or scanned hand-drawn work is acceptable. Three-view sheets must be combined into one image. Capcom encourages brief notes pointing out key features or ideas of your design.

Generative AI is not allowed. Entries that infringe on existing work or resemble prior designs too closely may be removed at any stage.

Judging and Selection

Capcom staff and the Dual Override development team will judge entries on originality, creativity, and how easily the design can be implemented in-game. Social media engagement does not influence the results.

Selection works as follows:

  • Capcom R&D will select 20 First Stage Qualifiers.

  • Public voting takes place from January 30 to February 6, 2026 (UTC). A CAPCOM ID is required to vote.

  • The six designs with the highest votes become Prize Winners.

  • From those six, Capcom R&D will choose one Grand Winner.

Winner Notifications

Winners will receive a DM from the Mega Man account between February 13 and February 17, 2026. Responses are required by February 20, 2026. Selected participants must provide high-resolution data and sign copyright assignment documents. Minors will need a parent or guardian to sign.

Winners will be announced publicly in March 2026.

    1. Dude, just be happy we're getting a new game. And if this games does well, we might get the other ones.

    2. Don't mind him, he's just mad he'll have to wait a few more years to use his tired "Crapcom" trope.

Notice how a new game is announced and this is the only thing he's contributed to the discussion. Shows you how much of a "RealMMFan" he really is.

    3. A big if, but if lucky, maybe they will announce they are working on another game in either X, ZX, or Legends in 2026 while also working on this (side by side like they used to), but that is a BIG if and I won't expect much.

Megaman 12 will likely be an instant buy for me (on Steam). I like side scrolling high detailed MM games (just don't make a Legends game side scrolling). This one seems to have full 3D backgrounds that are quite animated (better than MM11 backgrounds). I like a 2.5D feel.

Of course this early on, I think the engine will be improved before release, which could explain the 2027 release (might be early 2027). I bet most of the stuff we see in the trailer won't even be in the final version, including gamma in the background displays on the walls unless that is a robot museum database level, but odd that Wily is pictured in it too but could be a recent event history museum in general. Most of this trailer stuff might be mostly proof of concept. I doubt the game will have fireworks like that in the gameplay. Seems added to be festive to celebrate MM12 and the 40th anniversary.

    1. I'm waiting for a Blow Man to be as ridiculous as Hard Man.

    1. Hopefully soon for L3, or better, while they are making this, they make either an X9, ZX3, or L3 side by side. Two MM games every 1.5 years was nice. They may not, but one can always hope. I liked the days where two games were made near the same time from separate series.

  4. So it sounds like we are charged to make a Robot Master... that sucks.

This is awesome, though I wish they'd accept entries from BlueSky too.

    1. You do know, this is actually the norm, in fact may robot master were made this way! https://megaman.fandom.com/wiki/Boss_character_contest

    2. Agreed. Twitter is a dumpster fire that I want nothing to do with.

    3. As is BlueSky. If you think Twitter is bad and your solution is BlueSky?
And you wonder why I have no faith in peoples ability to rationally think anymore...

    4. iirc BlueSky has a similar problem to Mastodon, where the people on there have strong opinions in the opposite direction of Twitter.

    5. @RS not really. BlueSky is centralized, which is part of why everyone is on the same page and there for basically the same reason.

Mastodon is decentralized and you can find many instances with all kind of opinions. they'll usually be distinct from twitter because most people will use it because their takes are/were banned on twitter.

    6. Yeah I guess it's apples and oranges. I forgot bluesky doesn't have the multitude of instances.

    7. Now certain other social media websites... hoo boy. Shit pit central!

  5. this is so so cool to see, i look forward to seeing the submissions and even moreso, seeing who wins. ^^ so exciting

  6. While it’s amazing to see the BCC come back at all, it’s a shame it’s so limited. 1080p, no more than 2 MB? Do they just expect crusty photos? I know GenAI is a concern, it’s just a bit of a shame it feels like they’re skipping digital design completely and basically doing a digital version of the old BCC’s. At least you won’t have to mail anything…

And I don’t like them doing the template again. Especially with this template being pretty doofy.

    1. Well again, this is more to prevent AI art from sneaking past censors, lord knows, those jerks will try. Plus the templates did give us Search man, so I can't really complain.

  7. They're expecting high-res submissions at request so you should make a high quality image and then make it fit the critera, then when they ask for the high res image, send it to them. Also Digital is accepted, but traditional will prove that you're probably not using AI.

  8. I’m surprised they left out Oil Man & Time Man from Mega Man Powered Up.

  9. Locking the contest to the bigoted cesspool known as Twitter was a dumb thing for them to do. Not to mention, they'll disqualify you if you happen to post your submission to other platforms.
