  4. Proto Man whistle at the end, too.

I presume the fireworks is going to be some kind of Festival Man or whatever, too.

    1. because of the opening like screen there, and images of gamma there, I'm assuming it's some sort of intro stage. kinda like 7's robot museum maybe?

    3. After Taisen, nothing would surprise me.

    4. Never count out Capcom. Still, even though I am not known for my optimism, Q1 2027 is only 13 months out. That's a pretty reasonable release window from announcement, if not longer than one would like.

It could be worse, it could be Darksiders 4 which was teased 2024, officially announced a in August, and absolutely no information released since then. Not a screen shot. Not a release window. Nothing.

  11. I'm so happyyyyy. I watched the trailer several times before I realized there's a Proto Man whistle just before it ends. He's back!

  12. I don't mind it coming to the Switch (original) but... That definitely limits this titles ambition and prospects.

  13. That's a long time to cancel it. I'll believe it when we can actually buy it. Capcom has eroded all my trust in them.

  15. Hell yes! Not only is there finally a new entry after seven years, but if the end of the trailer is an indication, Proto Man has been 100% confirmed to be in it, which is a huge plus. One of my main issues with Mega Man 11 was the fact that he (and Bass) were not only excluded from it unnecessarily, but on top of the fact, fans were given the worst explanation for it imaginable, which was blatantly insulting to everyones' intelligence. I'm glad to see that won't be an issue this time around. Well, at least with Proto Man. It remains to be seen as to whether or not Bass will be included. Duo would also be welcome, but the latter two are the bare minimum at this point in the series.

    1. would be nice if since they already have a protoman model, they add him as dlc for MM11

      Delete
    2. This game and 11 have pretty different art styles for their character models. A Proto Man model from this game wouldn't fit MM11 at all.

      Delete
    3. I just realized, I meant to say "former" in that last sentence, rather than "latter". That aside, I agree completely. In fact, I've been calling for that very thing in the past seven years, but it sadly never came to pass.

      Delete
    4. @icywind
I mean, it looks like mega man 11. yeah, mega man's model looks different, but it's not like either mega man would look out of place in either game. protoman doesn't have to match MM11's style for mega man's proportions. should still be fine. only reason they couldn't just put the new mega man model in 11 is because of all the alt forms.

      Delete
    5. Agree 100%. I really liked 11 and played it a ton, but it would have been nice to have other characters/playstyles. Super excited!

      Delete
    6. @Erik the Red
I think you just don't remember what Mega Man 11 looks like. The difference between visual styles between the two is far more substantial than you're giving it credit for and a model of DO would not fit with 11.

      Delete
    7. @icywind

wall shooter looks exactly the same between the two games, and looks fine in both games. mets look a bit different, but nothing that would seem too out of place in the other.

plus, mega man himself doesn't really even fit in MM11 all that well, he looks pretty weird compared to all other characters. I can't see this model of mega man not fitting in fine in MM11

  16. I'm really curious as to why this is so far getting a "Megaman and Bass" naming treatment instead of flatout naming it Megaman 12, especially for what should amount to being the series 40th anniversary game. Either way, I felt actual happiness and joy when this trailer popped up and could feel my blood pumping with excitement compared to how I kept falling asleep during most of the Game Awards.

    1. probably because capcom has come to realize that people generally don't like mega man 1-10. naming it 12 probably makes people feel like they need to play the prior 11 games before this one.

      Delete
    2. What do you mean people don't like Mega Man 1-10? The first Legacy Collection continues to rise up the Capcom sales charts.

      Delete
    3. I 100% disagree with this statement. The naming convention is part of the brand identity. All this does is confuse an already confused group of gamers.

      Delete
    4. “people generally don't like mega man 1-10” is certainly a take.

I have some pessimistic suspicions about the lack of numbering, but ultimately, this seems like a purely marketing decision, and puts Mega Man more in line with a lot of long running games. Super Mario Odyssey wasn’t Super Mario Bros. 10, Sonic Frontiers wasn’t Sonic The Hedgehog 14, et cetera. They probably would’ve called it “Mega Man 11 2” if they thought they could get away with it.

      Delete
    5. @icywind
people who like mega man of course like mega man 1-10, and while people do buy the legacy collections that drop down to like $2 now and then, the general gaming and casual audience doesn't actually like mega man games. they might like "mega man", the character, and people might have fond memories of their childhood failing at some random mega man game, but most people really just don't like mega man.

      @shrap
I dunno, mega man 11 is already confusing. is it a reboot? does mega man 1-10 factor into it? it just seems odd that neither protoman nor bass are in the game when they were both in 10. mega man 12 has expectations, so if they just give it a subtitle, then it can really go anywhere in the timeline and can even be an unrelated standalone. though with gamma schematics, it can be assumed that mega man 3 happened. or maybe this is a retelling of mega man 3? maybe it's a celebration of light and a supposedly repentant wily building gamma together?

  17. Capcom must've listen to those survey's i remember taking one of those. it worked!

  18. I'm excited that we *finally* got a new game announcement that wasn't gachaslop, but I'm still hesitant to cheer that Mega Man is back.

Look at that release year. 2027. That'll be a decade since Mega Man 11 was announced and nearly a decade since it released. Capcom's almost out of stuff to mine for quick Legacy Collection filler, so the ball's in their court to prove that Mega Man is *actually* back for *real* this time, and not just as a "once-in-a-decade" event that they seem to have set a standard for.

*Really* think about whether or not Capcom's track record has shown that they're willing and able to commit to regular releases of brand-new Mega Man games, and not just repeat this trick for a third time in 2037.

At the very least, this all but confirms what everyone who isn't delusional already knew: that Rockman Taisen died the moment the pandemic hit and Capcom had to shift their priorities around.

  19. The dual in the title plus the whistle of Protoman, are those hints that this game Will be 2 players coop?

  20. So incredible. The longer they have to make the game the better it'll be. Super excited

    ReplyDelete
  21. YES, i'm so incredibly excited. I was in denial when it was getting announced xD "this looks so much like Mega Man... There's no way" and BAM, Blue Bomber is here. So happy and looking forward to this, looks great.

  22. It's nice. Yes, let's hope it is never canned. Someone on reddit brought up that in the hallway in the trailer, you can see the numbers 1 - 11 (12 screens one per display) appear with the year of release of each MM game attached to each entry number. 12 is at the end of the hallway on the ground and the corner top display was calculating it but did not show it. That and seeing a charge shot tells me it is MM12 (happy it is likely not some prequel). Odd to see Gamma in a city or on a display on the wall, but this is probably very early stages so all that might be removed when it is official. Also the name Dual Overdrive has connotations of double gear coming back. Also they will probably make the engine more detailed and not use MM11's since it is supposed to release in 2027 (kind of far away).

    1. Don't let your heart die out, Shrap. I feel you. By the time the game comes out in 2027, it would've been close to another decade of darkness since the last game. But hey, hopefully between now and then the game will polish itself into something actually worth being really excited for.

      Delete
    2. Same here. I think most fans (myself included) where expecting something other than a new restart with yet another entry in the classic series, but hey, it's not like we are spoiled for choice here, so I'll support it regardless.

    3. Your icon is your reaction, as usual, eh? :p

      Delete
    4. @Chubby I am skiddish about any new entry in any property I enjoy, because honestly speaking the vast majority are really bad, especially in the last 15 years. With one or two hidden gems among them. On top of a lot of other factors not worth getting into.
So, I am taking a wait and see approach. I might get more excited as time goes on. That has happened before.

      Delete
    5. mega man 11 suggested the series was reviving, it did very well saleswise too, so we thought our boy is back. but that didn't happen.

like a decade later, we are getting 12. yeah, it's nice to get another entry, but we all have the expectation that we'll get this game and the series will go dormant again.

      Delete
    6. Well, with just one trailer and a handful of screenshots released, we can already tell that Rock's character model has already evolved more between MM11 and "MM12" than he did from MM1-MM6. And let's be honest, aside from the NES and SNES titles (and Legends), most games in the franchise rarely push their respective console's to the limits. Classic platformers are usually like that.

Capcom has a balancing act they have to pull off, tweaking things just enough that they don't get dinged for "doing the same thing again, 9 years later" but also not deviating so far off course that they alienate the core base of fans. Personally I think, based on what I've seen so far, they seem to be on the right track.

      Delete
    7. I think "12" will turn out to be good, or at least they sure have a lot of time to get it there by 2027... As others here pointed out, one of the things that bugged me the most about 11 was the absence of playable Blues and Forte. Just by correcting that oversight, 12 will become a lot more interesting to me.

      Delete
    8. I'm sure it will be at minimum passable. Like I said... it's complicated and I didn't go into all of it. That is just part of it. Alas that was my honest take. Meh. I am interested. Not thrilled. I should be thrilled. And at one time I would have been.

At least I am way more interested than for Star Force collection. I keep forgetting about it. I have absolutely zero desire to replay those games 7 more times, let alone even once... Hell I stopped replaying EXE halfway through 3... My level of care on that one is it goes on the shelf, maybe.

      Delete
    9. @MatureMMFan

No offense, but I think when developers are too hyper aware of some “balancing act” is when they fail as creatives. I play games because someone had an idea, and I want to experience that idea. If I only wanted games to toe the line of maximum popularity and profit, I’d just buy the game and watch the company’s stock prices instead of playing it.

Though I’m not saying DO is doing that (not saying it isn’t either…).

      Delete
    10. I've never been into Exe or Star Force. The only Anniversary Collection I want now is Dash.

    11. @Jark Spore

No, that's a take I can respect. I want to see Mega Man evolve myself, I enjoyed MM8, MM11, MMX8, etc. because I gave them credit for trying to take the franchise to a new level with upgraded graphics and features. I'd argue the oversaturation of games back in the early and mid-2000s, where we had multiple very cookie-cutter titles released every year, kind of diluted the brand. There was less hype for releases back then because we all just assumed it would happen regularly, sales started to wane and by the time we reached the DS releases, not many people cared anymore.

So in a way, I want to see them introduce enough new features to keep things fresh, but also pay homage to the roots. I think most people feel this way in some capacity.

      Delete
    12. If you ever had the chance to publish your dream Classic/X game what would you do to upgrade it? (Note I don't care about the ripoffs or their game play for the sake of this discussion)

The first thing I would do is add option toggles. Options are good. Toggle custom music. Toggle between US and JP naming conventions in your toggle language of choice. Toggle story scene overrides for speed runners. Toggles are our friend. I'd toggle everything I could think of.

Second thing I would do is I would do something about the length. I would look at MM3-6. Extra stages. Extra bosses. Maybe extra weapons. Stage secrets like Shade Man would be welcome too.

Third thing I would do is I would massively improve the end game. Mega Man 11's castle sucked. The first stage was the only real good one. I remember the 2nd being alright. And everything after that was so forgettable.

I would not end on a cliff hanger. It could be the last hurrah for all I know.

I might add in stage dialog story that plays while your running and gunning, kinda like Mighty No 9 did. That can be turned off.

I would not entertain any paid DLC of any kind. The game with be 100% physical and 100% complete with 100% in game unlocks of everything. And it would come with a bloody manual. In color. In accordance with the natural law.

I would look at maybe upgrading what Rush can do. Maybe have Rock's weapon selection impact Rush's abilities rather than just "fly in a straight, slow line"

I would make Auto playable. Cause why not?

For X, I would bring back ladders.

      Delete
    13. @shrap

      All good suggestions.

I felt MM11 was a solid title, but I agree that it was light. Reminded me a lot of MM2 in a sense, more focused on the core gameplay and getting that right, and then they iterated from there, with additional characters, special weapons, branching stages, etc. MMDO now needs to feel more like MM3-MM4 IMO.

I really enjoyed the weapon transformations in MM11. Not only was it a feature that AK envisioned at the very beginning (but didn't have the space technologically to pull it off), but it introduced something new. Which is why your suggestions for Rush and a playable Auto (even if it's just a gimmick and not the entire game) would be fun. I think fans would be open to it. How many people stopped playing MM because they got rid of Items 1-3 and went with Rush? Or introduced the charge shot/slide/etc? We've shown we'll be receptive to new ideas and not be dogmatic about things.

      Delete
    14. I like toggles. options are great.

but I'd have more options in the ingame store. options like choosing between the different versions of rush, different recoil styles, different charge shots, etc.

more characters. of course, protoman and bass should be playable.

      bring back tango

    15. Charge shots make things a pain in the ass for me, but I have bad reaction time. RIP me, I guess.

    16. @RS Proto Man

I thought it was just me. Though I’ve found it helps a lot to map attack and dash to the bumpers. Especially for X series, having to constantly rock one finger across 3 buttons with one generally encouraged to always be held is rough. And then they want to involve the top button too with the PlayStation games?! Hah, no. Bumpers are only used for hot weapon switching anyway, which is practically useless.

Or use auto-charge for games that have it. Or both!

      Delete
    17. I'd be game for all the Light or Cossack numbers being playable. It doesn't make sense the Wily No's would ever be allowed to free roam... That's one thing the manga's do I never quite agreed with.

      Delete
    18. @Jark Autocharge would probably help. In my case, it adds another variable for trying to hit something that only can be damaged with the charge shot when that's the only viable weapon you have. I have to account for dodging while charging and it's annoying.

      Delete
  25. I will add that I am thinking you all will find out what Kotobukiya's "Mystery" model is now. It makes a lot of sense with that silly transformation at the end.

  26. I like a lot that I’m seeing here. The tweaked design for Mega Man is good, and there’s some nice details like battle damage. Not too much else to say at this point, just the existence of this game is what’s surprising.

  32. I keep thinking the "Dual Override" nomenclature makes no sense. At least not yet. I get no inclination from it this is Mega Man 12. More like Mega Man 20.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I kept thinking it was overdrive, not override, which is why in my head I thought it was double gear related. Maybe it is related to how his body opens up at the end of the trailer. Maybe an all new gimmick. Almost every classic game often introduces a new gimmick, like MM2 having those 3 items for mobility, Rush and slide in 3, charge in 4, Beat in 5, Auto and a shop in 7, collecting bolts, kicking a ball or riding a rocket sled in 8, collecting disks in R&F, etc. Some of the gimmicks stick around and are great. I love charge and slide, and a shop can be nice.

      Delete
    2. I'm sure it's mechanics related. Just saying it doesn't scream "12" in anyway.

      Delete
    3. I think it’s their intention that the name doesn’t resemble “12.” This is the Halo Infinite of Mega Man: ostensibly a sequel, but abandoning the numeration and (probably) serving as a back-to-basics soft reboot, all for mass market appeal.

      Delete
    4. I get it. I just think it's silly. And it doesn't even sound right since Dual is synonymous with "2".
Dual Override should just be the subtitle that every Rockman game since 2 has had. It would make more sense. Or use a name that doesn't refer to a numeral.

      Delete
    5. Maybe in Japan, it will be called MM12 followed by the title. Something I learned they always tend to do with classic main games.

      Delete
  33. I'm really excited for this game, it looks like the learnt what works in 11 and polished it up in the small section of gameplay we saw. Animations with more keyframing and dynamic posing and the gameplay models resemble the artwork more, it's so cool! I'm so excited to see Mega Man and Proto Man come back.
