Kotobukiya has been on a roll lately with their frequent releases. This time, we have another addition to their Premium Charge Shot line:
Mega Man in his
Mega Man 11 design. Will this kit fare better than the previous
MegaMan.EXE Premium Chare Shot Ver.? Join me after the break to find out all the details!
READY
Before we get too deep in the details, I'm going to start this review by saying that this kit was a much easier build than the MegaMan.EXE Premium Charge Shot Ver. With that being said, it still had issues here and there with pieces fitting together. Once again, the coating made some of the shiny blue parts more difficult to fit together than they should have been, just to a much lesser extent this time. Using a thin hobby knife, very carefully shave the insides of some of the peg holes—this should do the trick. Ideally, this wouldn’t be necessary, but thankfully it’s less of an issue this time around. Now that the one downside is out of the way, let’s focus on the positives—because there’s a lot to appreciate here.
The colors on this kit are stunning—true to the Premium Charge Shot line, the vibrant metallic hues really pop, especially next to standard versions. The shifts from blue to purple give it a striking, shimmery effect that works beautifully on a model. The only minor downside is the helmetless head lacking the same glossy finish on the hair, which would’ve been a nice touch.
Articulation is excellent and completely unaffected by the shiny coating. Every joint moves smoothly, with bonus range from the extendable torso and wrists. Mega Man feels sturdy and can hit a wide range of dynamic poses. If you want a kit with real shelf presence, this one delivers.
Charged and relaxed
Mega Man includes four faces: neutral, teeth-gritted, shouting, and smiling. There are also four sets of hands: fists, two different styles of relaxed or gripping hands, and splayed open hands. Mega Man has the option to wear a helmet or let his hair go free. Lastly, there is a large red charge shot effect with the included Buster able to attach to either arm. One thing to keep in mind: opening the helmet to change out the faces can be a bit difficult, but after you do it a time or two, it gets a lot easier due to the lack of resistance, at least in my experience.
Accessorize!
There have been several Premium Charge Shot Ver. kits released now. If Kotobukiya continues this sub-series, I would like to see something really creative, like a Zero kit that is a shiny pink emulating his Awakened Zero state. Are there any kits that you think should get the Premium treatment?
And that does it for the
Mega Man 11 Mega Man Premium Charge Shot Ver. model kit. In my opinion, this kit is perfect for the builder with a bit of patience, and for the collector that is looking to fill in a
Mega Man 11-shaped hole in their collection. However, if the Premium Charge Shot kit isn't exactly what you need, then you're in luck; the standard
Mega Man 11 kit is due for a re-release and already available for pre-order. Not only that, but the
Pile Driver Mega Man and
Scramble Thunder Mega Man kits are set to release very soon. So, no matter what you're looking to use your
sense & skill on, Kotobukiya and our friends at
BigBadToyStore have you covered!
"Plasma Power!"
It's aight. A bit too shiny for me, but not everything is gonna be something I like. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteSame. I have something like 20 Kotobukiya kits. But none of the plated or "Premium" ones. The only one I was tempted to buy was 2nd Armor, just to get a transparent gem for the buster, but I 3D printed one for a 10th of the price instead.
DeleteKotobukiya is turning into Hasbro
ReplyDeleteLmao. I wouldn’t say we’re at that point until we get like, Mega Man in black, grey, and yellow sold as Bass. Though they’re definitely quick to jump on recolors. I’m surprised they never did Special Weapon variants of the old Mega Man and Proto Man kits.
DeleteHasbro sucks in a lot of ways.
DeleteBut Missing Link Optimus Prime is the greatest toy ever. Of all time. It blew my 80's kid mind.
That's not a Kotobukiya-exclusive issue, I'm afraid. Ever Mega Man toyline ever has been filled with repaints and minorly-altered reissues of Mega Man because he's by far the easiest character to repackage and convince people to double-dip on.
