Kotobukiya Developers Discuss Upcoming Mega Man X Series Kits

Day one of Kotobukiya's "EXTRA 2022" online event has begun. In terms of Mega Man content, the manufacturer provided fans with developer commentary for Full Armor X, Blade Armor X and Axl.

Although there's nothing exactly earth-shattering here, the comments do provide a nice peek behind the scenes and a little insight on when fans can expect to buy at least one of 'em. Read on for the lowdown!

Full Armor X Planner Interview

Q: What do you think are the best features of this character?

A: It's the commemorable first armor that appears in the first game of the MEGA MAN X series, so I think there are many fans who are strongly attached to it. It will be released in 2023 , during the 30th of MEGA MAN X!

Q: How can we have the most fun with it?

A: The model is compatible with the previously released MEGA MAN X X from the same series, so the parts can be rearranged to recreate the character mid-upgrade forms from the game!

Q: Is there anything you can tell us about what's coming in the future?

A: We are planning to release a wide variation of armors, much like the previously released armors for X and the FORCE ARMOR RISING FIRE VER. Additionally, a certain character that MEGA MAN X fans have been waiting for is currently in development!

Blade Armor X Planner Interview

Q: What was the hardest part of the development process?

A: We struggled in making the blade's shape. Since it comes from the round Buster, we were originally going with cylindar-shaped parts but it didn't really look like a blade. We decided to fine-tune it by tapering the tip and making the blade slightly flatter, which is the form you can see now!

Q: How can we have the most fun with it?

A: The model is compatible with the previously released MEGA MAN X X from the same series, so the parts can be rearranged to recreate the character mid-upgrade forms from the game! [note: yep; repeated answer]

[note: repeated answer again]

Axl Planner Interview

Q: Which part would you highlight the most?

A: We paid extra attention on the balances of the body. I adjusted his limbs to be slightly thinner than those of MEGA MAN X or Zero to express his youth and immaturity, so please compare them and see for yourself!

Q: How can we have the most fun with it?

A: You can recreate scenes from the games by placing him alongside Mega Man X or Zero.

-------------------------------------

So for at least Full Armor X, we can expect him in 2023 to coincide with the X series' 30th anniversary. It remains to be seen if that means on or after December 17, 2023 (the literal day of the anniversary) or sometime within 2023. Kotobukiya will be hosting a fourth Mega Man series-specific live-stream show in the very near future; perhaps we'll learn a little more then. A date for that program has yet to be announced.

To wrap things up here, Kotobukiya have opened up product surveys for each upcoming kit. Simply head over here, click on a character, and sound off!

  1. I like how they said the Blade Armor can be combined with vanilla X like in the games, even though that isn't possible. It'll be fun to see, though!

I think First Armor will come out early next year. I can't imagine there being such a gap that would last until the end of 2023.

Hopefully the next Rockman stream is announced sooner than later so we can get some answers!

  2. In a perfect world there would be a new MMX game coming out to celebrate the 30th, but alas I fear this first armor kit is all we're gonna get...

  3. The odds are the next figure is either Sigma, Alia, Iris or Vile. Personally, I really want Alia, but I'll take any one of em. If they do Sigma, expect it to be ~$150.

Side note, not that I'm getting one, but the EXE figures seem to be going for $55 dollars on HLJ as opposed to $80 at BBTS.

    1. Alia or Iris would be neat. Sigma and Vile already have good representation via Bandai D-Arts, at least in their original forms. Maybe Kotobukiya could make X5 first form Sigma or Vile from X3 or X8.

    2. The Sigma one is a statue rather than a poseable figure like Vile. I imagine a poseable Sigma would be rather expensive at his scale, though.

  4. The Blade armor looks absolutely beautiful! I love it.
I hope for some others characters like Double, Gate or Colonel and Iris for example.

  6. So I was surfing to see what goods are on the market today, and I saw that Image Anime has the X2 Armor in stock. They are based in New York, so we should see BBTS getting stuff out very soon. I hope.

  7. Very nice looking, but I'll pass. One can only take so many of the same character before disinterest sets in.
