Local Multiplayer Revealed for Fan-Made Battle Network 3D

It's been a little while since we last checked in with Team MMBN3D. Fortunately, good news is afoot! Work on Mega Man Battle Network 3D continues... and there's going to be classic local multiplayer available from day one.

Much like the GBA games that inspired it, MMBN3D allows players to use a large library of Battle Chips. A variety of playable Net Navis will be available at your disposal, including some that have never been playable in any form (oooooh!).

As for the prospect of online multiplayer, it's not in the cards at this time. Team MMBN3D says it is indeed a possibility but not for a long time. The focus right now is getting the game out the door, so to speak.

MMBN3D is targeting a late 2016 to early 2017 launch window. You can follow the game's progress on Tumblr and Twitter in the meantime.

  1. Know what this game needs? Some more animation.

    1. I was thinking that for the Area Stea 2 or 3 frames more should be good.
he wanted make it like the original games (for the amount of frames) but in 3D, not really like a full remake.

    1. You prefer always the same 8 bit cheap stuff maybe ? It's a fangame and still very correct for a game made by 1 guy. At least, it's not like the squared stuff of the 3D games of the ps1.
Seriously, fans love SFxMM with the cheap level design and start to bash a game for some details....that's not nice.
For me, it's enough, i care more about the gameplay/balance than some details of the animations.
8/16 bits style is so boring now, we had only that :/

    2. I don't recall the Anonymous saying he or she wanted 8 bit or 16 bit. Besides, BN is 32 bit. They said the animation was meh. And it is compared to the original games. I do think the creator did an amazing job, but criticism is good too. It helps the creator improve.

The first time I saw this, the animation was much worse. The creator since then improved it.

Now if someone is saying "this sucks cuz its 3d lol" I'd understand your frustration. But it seems you're directing it at a random person for no reason.

At the same time though, I think people don't like 3D for 2D style games because usually the game engine seems to become inferior than the sprite based versions. Look at Mega Man Powered Up, I love that game but the engine is awful. It made a lot of things you could do in 8bit and 16bit Mega Man hard or impossible to do.

As for MMBN3D... I think it's cool you can play as multiple Navis! But as others said, the animation could use some improvement. Perhaps after everything else is done the animation could be fine tuned to be more like the sprite animations.

    3. And while I agree the gameplay and such is more important, I would get bored playing an action RPG game that has less than stellar animation. It could get away with that as a turn based game, but when you have full control it looks off when the character doesn't even move when firing a cannon. Their arm just pops into place and the firing effect appears.

    4. Advices is good but saying "derp derp derp i don't like it, make it all like i want" is not an advice but just a critic who doesnt help.
It should be more constructive than that, i think.
I think, some animations could have more frames too, a bit more but again, the guy is the only one to work on the game, i won't ask so much.

  3. Yeah...not to undermine the whole project, but...perhaps they should have just gone with 2D sprites.

  4. I bet Nintendo send a C&D having this shut down given Battle Nettwork 1-6 were all released on GBA

    1. Nintendo doesn't own any amount of Battle Network, so they can't do anything.

    2. @TAG:

Oh, I dunno. Given Nintendo's recent track record, they may still try to do something about it just for kicks. :P

    3. Nintendo owns the rights to both Metroid and Pokemon (or in the latter's case, owns the company who holds the rights). Nintendo does not own the rights to Mega Man. It would be like saying that they would try to have every single NES Mega Man fangame taken down because Mega Man was once on the NES.

  5. I hope they continue to develop the aesthetics.
