"Dr. Light's Research Journal" Now Available in English!

Dropbox | Drive | Mediafire

My first Patreon-backed project has reached its conclusion! "Dr. Light's Research Journal" – a 52-page collection of notes from the good doctor taking place before, during and after the events of Mega Man 1 – has been translated into English. You can download the PDF from the links above!

These notes were originally included in the mini 2016-2017 planner that came with the out-of-print, e-Capcom exclusive Rockman Classics Collection Limited Edition Package (for Nintendo 3DS). The notes provide a bit of backstory on the birth of the six DLN Robot Masters, among other things. We learn about how Dr. Light was commissioned to design six robots by an "administration", the development of his patented "Ceratanium", and the eventual crisis that leads directly into the events of Mega Man 1.

The notes also provide us with some cute slice-of-life moments, too. For instance, did you know Cut Man shaved Dr. Light's beard in his sleep? Or how about the time Light invited Rock and Roll out to karaoke? Or that time Reggae spied on the Light family? And did you know about Dr. Light's penchant for fighting games? He wants to master the Shoryuken and Hadouken for real, you know.

This project couldn't have happened without my Patreon supporters. Thanks to you, we were able to obtain the physical journal, scan it, translate it, and clean it up. Translation credit goes to my old friend Midori Woodley. Typesetting and imaging honors go to the great Reploid_21XX! You guys rock.

More Patreon-backed projects surrounding the documentation and research of various pieces of rare and lost Mega Man history are coming down the pike. As always, your support is very much appreciated. It's a dollar to start; no paywalled content. Learn more here!

  1. "I want to sell the fruits of my research at all once" doesn't sound quite right.

    3. I mean, Dr. Light needs to make his income somewhere. It would be foolish to just do all that hardwork for free.

  2. This is charming. Even if he caused half of the problems in the x series.

  3. I loved reading Dr. Light's journal. I'm happy people can freely access it in English now. Thank you guys for the project!

My favorite part of the journal was that (at least in the original version) it felt like Light was...I won't say arrogant, but very confident in himself and his work at the beginning. Then he becomes more humble as time passes.

Also Cossack. I didn't agree with Archie's interpretation of making Cossack into an old friend/colleague of Dr.Light, Lalinde, and Wily (I mean, he's obviously way younger than them) so I was glad the journal confirmed they met for the first time post-Megaman 1.

  4. Very nice, Prototude. Thanks for the effort!

The July 15 entry should probably read "I will push his" not "I will pushg"

  5. What's with the year printed on every page? Does Mega Man take place in 2016 now?

    1. Nope. The pages themselves are from a 2016 notebook/planner.

  7. Sadly I don't own a credit card to give you money on Patreon, but since there's no sin on just proposing it: maybe you could translate Rockman X6 dialogues, just as Boco the Chokobo and Reeve did with X2 back in the early 2000s.

  9. In spite of the fact that they appear to be like solar panels, rather than light particles being gotten by solar cells, solar warm panels have dark glass which assimilates the sun's warmth. Zonnepanelen
