Bustin' Out Paper Craft

Man, I wish I didn't suck so much at papercraft--can't go a single day without cutting myself or loosing a primary piece. If you're looking for something to do during this weekend, you might want to head over to Nintendo Papercraft and download this awesome Rockman.EXE bust.

The papercraft requires a lot of patience, precision, and a hefty amount of colored printer ink. Should you have the will to construct this masterpiece, please do share the final product as I'd love to give you a cookie.

MegaMan Re-Imagined In HD

Although a HD MegaMan game in vain of Bionic Commando Rearmed isn't in Capcom's cards at this time, one talented artist took up the liberty to give us a taste of what it might look like.

This sinister, yet beautiful re imagining of MegaMan is the work of DeviantArtist Orito, whom has also conjured up other fine looking HD re-imaginings such as Sonic and Mario. Like what you see? Plenty more here.

Fan-made Rockman 9 "Commercial:" Rockman vs. Horseman

I'm truly baffled.

Rockman.EXE's Little Known Cameo

Highly obscure Nintendo DS game, "Dangerous Oldman," (based on the comic of the same name) features a slew of Coro Coro Comic character cameos including our very own Rockman.EXE

Dangerous Oldman plays an awful lot like the Wario Ware games, filled to the brim with zany mini games that make no sense whatsoever (50 mini games to be exact). In fact, one mini game requires you to tap a series of buttons in order to make the titular character fart...yeah. (You can demo this particular mini game here. Fourth button up top, click on DS)

Rockman.EXE is said to be a prominent character in the game, though during my limited play through, I've yet to encounter him. It's possible his appearance is limited to a mini game of his very own, or an appearance in one of the many backgrounds.

As a trade off, Dangerous Oldman and friends cameoed in a short cartoon that played before Rockman.EXE: Program of Light and Darkness theatrical featurette.

Design Contest Deadline Draws Near

One week from today, February 13th, is the deadline for Coro Coro Comic's annual boss contest. If you've yet to mail off your entry, please do so within the next few days to ensure its arrival at Shogakukan's offices. You can view the complete details on how to enter here.

Bear in mind, residents of Japan probably have a better chance of winning, but don't let that get your spirits down. I'm more than sure Coro Coro would love to know the contest has a following outside of Japan.

The Tale of the Rockman.EXE Beta Version

You've seen the video and the pictures. And now, it's time to hear the "untold story" behind the Rockman.EXE beta version. Back in the heydays of U-Capcom, EXE series planners Masakazu Eguchi and Masahiro Yasuma let Japanese fans in on the EXE that never was. Courtesy of The Mega Man Network:

"Reading these comments from the fans, I somehow get a strangely nostalgic feeling. Because of that I’ll regale the inside story to days of the first Battle Network’s development and such.

When the game was being produced we created something like an experimental demo in the development’s early stages. Although we also made such a ROM for Battle Network too, when I think back the contents of it were pretty strange.

First, when the game started you were already in school for some reason. Yai and Dex were wandering about, and strangely Chaud was there, too. (Which reminds me, I believe Chaud was originally planned to attend the same school.) Once you talked to everyone, a sort of “Oh no, someone broke into the network!” event occurred.

So, when you jacked into the school blackboard, you’d be in the school cyber world. The viruses that appeared were nothing but Mettaurs. And when you reached the end of the cyber world…

Err, isn’t that WoodMan standing there? And when you talk to him, this sort of conversation would unfold.

WoodMan: Huhuhu, I see you made it.
MegaMan: Why are you doing this!?
WoodMan: I’ve come to steal the homework program!
MegaMan: I won’t let you do that! Let’s Net Battle!

What the… the one behind the incident is WoodMan! And moreover, this WoodMan is a totally evil character! And besides that, it’s a rather petty goal, no? In contrast to that WoodMan is MegaMan who stands in opposition with a strong sense of justice; certainly a lovable hero indeed. And, upon beating WoodMan, the game was over!

Incidentally, a screenshot of the battle with WoodMan from that time can be found on page 129 of the “Rockman EXE 3 Ultimate Capture SP” guide published by Shogakukan.

I’d like to try playing it after all this time, just to see what I’d think.

Where Are They Now? Mega Man 2 Robot Masters

Ever wonder what happened to your favorite Mega Man 2 Robot Masters? The folks over at The -Minus World have been keeping tabs on the cast's whereabouts since their last outing, now living life to the best of their abilities. I got a good chuckle out of Metal Man's "success story:"

"Putting his signature serrated scalp to good use, Metal Man is featured in popular Food Network personality Giada’s TV show. Whether it’s cutting up succulent salmon or cracking king crab legs, Metal Man makes a killing culling culinary critics from his kitchen."

The Source of Zero's Power? It's In the Hair?

Alright you MegaMan/Rockman lore masters, quick question for you: I keep a bunch of notes and papers detailing the mythology of the Blue Bomber's universe, and I just so happened to stumble upon a tidbit I never cited. Care to enlighten me where this came from? (i.e name of source book)

"Have any of you ever wondered why Wily designed a robot with long hair? It's the source of his enormous power. However, it is not the volume of said hair that matters, it's merely the length. Even going through many style changes and many different volumes, the length of Zero's hair is constant, as is Zero's power output. The only exception to this rule is during awakening (RMX5), but at that point, Zero's hair draws in more and more energy from the air, hence it floating.

Even more interesting, when Zero was sealed (X6 future sealing ending). His hair was cut off for safety reasons, if he woke up, he would be powerless. Hence Weil required the Omega body armor to make him strong again while still taking advantage of his immunities.

There is no proof for this in the games, you say? Not true. In Zero 3, Omega is clearly shown to regenerate his hair from nothing. Something he was incapable of doing 100 years prior due to him lacking the power of Dark Elf. Hence Omega not using the Zero body in Elf Wars-- It would have been suicide.

Homemade ZXA Action Figures

It just amazes me what people can do with paper, glue, and a little devotion. ModelPA of RockmanFigure blog has singlehandedly built a series of ZX Advent models out of paper, cardboard, styrofoam, and "plastic joints" from your everyday Gunpla model kit.

Check out the blog for more photos of the models and, if you're a Nico Nico Douga user, be sure to watch the construction of the Atlas model here.

Shooting Star Rockman 3 Met Capcom's Expectations

According to Capcom's recent fiscal report, Shooting Star Rockman 3 Black Ace and Red Joker successfully met the company's sales expectations. On one hand, this is great news, but on the other, Capcom must of had some pretty low expectations when you consider how poorly SSR3 did compared to the previous iterations. Still, it's great to know the title performed just as well as they had hoped.

In related news, Capcom have also updated the total sales units for the Rockman/MegaMan franchise to 28 million units comprised of 123 games.

Unseen Rockman.EXE Beta Footage

Courtesy of PRC's "official YouTube correspondent," here's the previously unseen beta footage of Rockman.EXE 1. The footage comes from "Capcom Friendly Club Vol.15", a promotional VHS containg old Tokyo Game Show trailers.

Did you manage to catch what's been altered from the final build? I found:

-You can briefly see a yellow lamp post by Netto's house at 00:01 and 00:18
-Odd PET icon, "jumps" when Netto receives mail/call.
-Unused "matrix" scrolling background in battles
-Unused "matrix" scrolling background in school computer
-Alternate dialogue in School Sequence
-Peculiar Battle Chip above Rock's head, removed?
-Unused Internet background
-Alternate sound effects in battle, buster shots

There might be a few things I'm missing, cant really recall, plus the quality isn't all that great (SuperMega's working on a HD version). Stay tuned.

Amazon is now taking preorders for the second DVD volume of the Ruby Spears MegaMan toon, set to be released March 10th 2009 for $26.99. With a run time of 308 minutes, it's safe to assume the set will wrap up what's left of the show.
