It’s happening, folks. Udon Entertainment has officially announced that they will continue Archie Comics’ Mega Man series under the Mega Man Adventures banner.
The new comic will pick up directly after issue #55 and begin an adaptation of Mega Man 4. Future issues will carry two numbers to reflect both runs, meaning the first installment will be released as both Archie’s issue #56 and Udon’s issue #0.
The comic will be written by Ian Flynn with artwork by Chad Thomas and is currently targeting a November or December 2026 release.
More updates as they come! Thanks to Matthew Low for being our eyes and ears at the panel.

FINALLY!
ReplyDeleteAfter so long so so so happy to see all this Mega Man love! And the comic getting continued!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat news. I was always sad we didn't get to learn about the whole Mr X / Madam Y situation. I think this'll be a fun time
ReplyDeleteI CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!! I AM SO HAPPY MAN
ReplyDeleteI do NOT like that cover.
ReplyDeleteEddie's face bothers me...
Deleteexcited for this comic to come out! really hoping that archie mega man continues as an ongoing comic and it doesn't end up facing any major delays behind its release
ReplyDeleteIT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME WOOOOO AHAJAJDHHSA
ReplyDeleteFills me with joy and hope.
ReplyDeleteThis hiatus was like.. old enough to have completed elementary school i think..
ReplyDeleteWAAAHOOOOOOOO!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis comic was my entire life from like 10-15 years old, its the reason I started doing art in the first place and the reason I got into Mega Man.
I could not be happier!!! :D
LITERALLY FREAKING OUTTTTT AAAAAAAAAGH! GREATEST NEWS OF THE ENTIRE MONTH HOLY SMOKES MY GAAAWD! Archie Mega Man means the universe to me, it doesnt feel real. This feels like a dream that this is coming back. I can't believe this is real, its genuinely a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually perfect when you remember that Mega Man 4 begins with a recap of Mega Man's origin.
ReplyDeleteI waited to see proof that the Archie run was going to continue under Udon comics, and now that I see it, I'm smiling inside and outside. For the longest time, any interaction I had with Megaman revolved around only the first three entries: my brother had the original 1-3 on the NES & I only played a little of 4 before it was returned to the rental store and never played it again or 5 & 6 until the Anniversary Collection. Then the Archie run goes through the first three games, a semi-adaption of Powered Up, Super Adventure, and two crossovers with Sonic the Hedgehog, but stops just as the 4th game was about to start. After that, the Mastermix Run goes through the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd games with the Metal Heart epilogue to the third game attached before it ended.
ReplyDeleteI was beginning to think there was some sort of bad juju surrounding these adaptations, that some force just wanted things to revolve around the first three games and damned any that tried to go to the fourth and beyond. I'm glad to see that this storyline gets to continue on and I get to share that enthusiasm with everyone else.
This is great news. Hopefully they reprint the entire original run. I got the old run in trades and they never finished it.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who's been in the fandom for nearly a decade now, it's surreal seeing the Archie comics get a continuation after so long. Can't wait for issue 56!
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! The Archie Mega Man are back!
ReplyDeleteFLYNN!?!?!?!?! Jesus Christ! Does everything Mega Man have to come with some kind of horrible "monkey's paw-esque" catch?
ReplyDeleteThey couldn't get A.I. to write the scripts? Or a 6-year old? Or a dead wildebeest?
monkey's paw? I mean... same guy who wrote the archie run? they got the same writer for the same series? oh, such monkey paw, we got the series to continue, but at the price of the same writer continuing the same series! woe I say! woe!
DeleteI have issues with Flynn as well, but his skill as a writer is not one of him. He overall did a great job with the original run, and I have high expectations for his work in the future. I worry a little bit about his inclinations towards inserting his own ideological worldview over honoring the artistic direction and legacy of the source material, but the outright hatred some people display towards him comes off as rather silly and irrational. If you enjoyed the series so far, you've already enjoyed Flynn's work. So why cry out in lament now over more of the same?
DeleteIan "Praise my work or I'll ban you" Flynn is a complete hack. Worst of all, he doesn't even care about Mega Man. He just happened to be on Archie's staff when the opportunity to write Mega Man came along. And because he's a complete amateur who works for scale, he got the job by default.
DeleteHis characters all talk like internet trolls, his stories are incoherent and his idea of creativity is to pluck obscure references from Wikipedia and insert them into his writing. And I'm convinced the reason we got no less than two lengthy crossover events with the Archie Sonic comics was because Flynn was bored writing Mega Man and only thing that could ignite his interest was bringing Sonic into the story. Either that or he simply wasn't capable of juggling the responsibility of writing two monthly titles every month so he combined them into one single story to lighten his dubious work load.
I've been a Mega Man fan for almost 40 years, and I've been waiting for a Mega Man comic since Valiant teased the possibility of one way back in the letter column of their Super Mario Bros. comics. I was pissed when the Dreamwave comic was abruptly cancelled and when the Archie comic came out I made sure to buy as many copies of each issue as I could. But Ian Flynn's writing did the impossible: It made me unsubscribe. And that's why I have only the worst expectations for this book. because I know it will be more of the same. Flynn is an egotistical hack who can't accept critical feedback and surrounds himself with suck-ups who praise him constantly, therefore he cannot grow as a writer and an artist. So what hope is there that this continuation will be any kind of improvement over the Archie book?
@TimeGear I myself can't speak to the current run of Sonic the Hedgehog as I haven't read anything past issue 20 as the beginnings of the Metal Virus arc felt too close to the changing reality of life in the wake of COVID at the time, though based on what others online have said and the current number count, I can only guess the writing must be good enough to retain enough readers to warrant the series continuation. I do understand the frustration about artistic direction, but considering (from what I've heard from Flynn in the past) Sega's mandates towards Sonic & Friends' characterizations are so rigid they won't allow them to grow, evolve, or even devolve into their past selves, I'd say I don't blame him for trying anything to keep the comic from going stale. I wouldn't worry too much about artists' worldview ideology seeping into this new run of Megaman as every adaptation of Megaman has had that happen in their stories. Even in Japan, you can see how artists see characters (the Robot Masters, for example) in their own different interpretations of the source material; some (Shigeto Ikehara) depict them as close to how they appeared on the TV screen, others (Hitoshi Ariga) go into radically different directions from what happens in the games.
DeleteCanonicity to the games isn't the point, its about whether the artist's interpretations of the characters & situations created by the games' creators is executed well enough to be liked by the people reading the stories. I give Ian Flynn credit where it's due, as I enjoyed his Archie run of Sonic the Hedgehog enough to stick with it right to the end. I certainly didn't agree with every decision he made to resolve every game character to be more like their game counterpart, but considering how much of a convoluted mess his predecessor Ken Penders's writing was, I'd say he did the best he could with what he had when he inherited the series.
"Canonicity to the games isn't the point, its about whether the artist's interpretations of the characters & situations created by the games' creators is executed well enough to be liked by the people reading the stories."
DeleteRefreshing to see somebody else here gets it.
This dogmatic approach that some fans have on media other than games is just nonsensical to me. As you said, you don't need to agree with every decision or interpretation to still enjoy it for what it is. Every artist puts their own little flair on things and every writer peppers the dialogue with nuance or references that they think will land with their audience.
What's even funnier about all this is that we're talking about adaptations of games where there's practically no dialogue to begin with! I can understand taking issue with a character portrayal in an anime based off an extensive manga, for example. But picking apart writing in a comic based of Mega Man 2 or 3 is just silly.
That's one way to disrespect the creatives of the games as if their writing was that low effort. Proto Man's subplot in Mega Man 3 was well executed. So much for a self-named "mature" user... And save the damage control of "Didn't mean it in that way," or the even more dishonest "You're putting words in my mouth." The actual mature action would be to admit you talked out of ignorance and arrogance. That also doesn't magically shield the comics from anyone pointing out their faults.
DeleteIt's worth highlighting that a lot of the writing also comes from the design of the world and characters because the developers won't be there to explain everything during play time and they can only partially do it through manuals and advertisements. Due to various factors, memory size being a big one, it has to be subtle.
It’s a very restrictive way to look at stories in general, stories in games especially. Ignoring music is simply ignorant, even if it’s something comics lack. You don’t need to read a guidebook to know Top Man is smooth and confident and Bubble Man is disrespected.
DeleteI agree with RockmanCraze. If Flynn doesn't capture the love triangle between Mega Man, X, and Roll from the comics, I will be very disappointed.
Delete"Proto Man's subplot in Mega Man 3 was well executed."
DeleteLol, what? He isn't even mentioned in the game's manual, and literally has one line of dialogue. His entire sub-plot is "mysterious robot you fight sporadically who turns out to be your brother". And you're mad that a comic is expounding on that?
I never said the comic wasn't without faults and anyone is free to take issue with any aspect of it. Fully Charged is a complete bastardization of Mega Man but when it came out you know what I did? Nothing. I went on with my life, choosing not to watch it. I didn't whine about it on the internet or hoped that it failed because it didn't meet my standards for "true" Mega Man lore. That's what makes me more mature than some others on here.
aaaaay! brasiliero?
Delete"He isn't even mentioned in the game's manual, and literally has one line of dialogue."
DeleteHe is in the Japanese manual. And dialogue alone does not writing make. In fact, introducing dialogue or more of it is exactly why the comics are held to a higher critical standard because they introduce another element. The games employ visual storytelling and if you want to downplay as it somehow not counting to the overall writing, filmmakers would like a word with you. It's ridiculous you need that to be spelt out. When did I mention having a problem with the comic representation of the subplot? I clearly meant that the games stand by their own with that example. Talk about not paying attention and doubling down on ignorance.
"I never said the comic wasn't without faults and anyone is free to take issue with any aspect of it."
No, you did not:
"But picking apart writing in a comic based of Mega Man 2 or 3 is just silly."
So writing isn't an aspect? Lol. Stop being dishonest to cover up your arrogant mistakes. You're further exemplifying you aren't really mature.
Isn't Proto mentioned in one of the original ads with the "Friend or Foe?" line in Japan?
DeleteFinally some light at the end of the tunnel
ReplyDeleteOH WOW!!! i've got some major catching up to do!!!
ReplyDeleteI literally have every cover variant from the entire Archie run. I know UDON is going to kill me with the 10 cover variants for every issue......IF this ever comes out
ReplyDeleteI see its both a continuation for archie and one shot to test the waters to see if it'll go to series under Udon.
ReplyDeleteThough everyone involved seems confident that it will be continued. Wonder how release schedules will go? We have 3 mini series, 3 one shots, 4 volumes for the Archie collection, however many issues the continuation ultimately gets, and the last 2 manga volumes.
That's always my biggest concern with Udon. All of the announcements are exciting, but you hope they're not biting off more than they can chew.
DeleteI'm still waiting for them to post that Mr Mega Man and Little Mega Man Vol 3 are even getting released. Mega Man Adventures (the book that was collecting half of the Archie run) was supposed to ship last week but as far as I can tell hasn't actually released yet. I don't think a single issue of their Timelines or X comics have released on their original planned date either.
I can deal with delays, but what's frustrating are series that are pushed back and then eventually canceled halfway through after I spent money buying them up until that point.
Don't forget Mega Man Mastermix.
Delete"Don't forget Mega Man Mastermix."
DeleteUgh, don't remind me. I was so pumped for full-size, color reprints of that manga, only to see that canned after two volumes.
I was also excited when they teased Mega Mission back in 2018. Then they postponed it, then mentioned about a year ago that it's back on, but still no mention of any release date for the foreseeable future.
Definitely grateful for them over the years for keeping Mega Man manga/comics alive, whether it's reprints of older ones or their own original stuff. Just hope for more stability on the release front.
Yeah i was leaving off the ones currently in limbo. I really hope we get word on the final volumes for Mr. & little mega man
Delete(Apparently theres a chance we might get the Sega crossover but theres one rights holder who didn't give the go ahead for now)
