Kotobukiya Want to Make Model Kits Based on Obscure Mega Man Characters

If there's one infallible truth in this world it's this: we need more official figures based on Mega Man characters that aren't the titular Blue Bomber, X and Zero. The folks at Kotobukiya are hoping to change that.

In a recent blog post, Kotobukiya say that there are keenly listening to fan requests for future model kits for lesser-known characters. They specifically noted the following characters they'd like to turn into kits: Iris, Alia, Axl, and  Command Mission X, Vile, and Sigma.

“We see your opinions! We’d like to do as many as possible!" Kotobukiya writes. "If X and the Max Armor do well... we can make one after another!”

You heard 'em. If there's a specific character or two that you'd like to see, let Kotobukiya know via:

  1. Hope someone suggests some of the Maverick bosses too.

    1. well, the more they move away from the main character, the more risky it is to make for them. I think we have more chances of seeing them do the rivals like colonel or Dynamo than the average maverick boss.
that's the problem with the maverick, only some dedicated fans would buy them.

    2. I believe Storm Eagle would be the most likely maverick to make that criteria. Most of the X1 mavericks would do pretty well, now that I think of it. I will say, X3 and onward might be a little harder to think about, as many would be rather niche or extremely hard to build. (Toxic Seahorse for example) but I’m sure plenty of fans would love to have a maverick or two in their collection. And I’m sure stop motion animators would love them as well!

  2. I love that they put Command Mission X up as an option. I really do want more characters, but I think I would gladly give them up for that one X design.

  3. I'd love either getting the Four Guardians to go with their Zero series Zero or Bass to go with their classic Mega Man, Proto Man and Roll. That said, a Command Mission X would be pretty sweet too even with the overabundance of Xs on the figure market.

  4. They should begin by making LITERALLY every single character from the first Megaman X. From heroes to villains to smaller enemiest, to items and capsules and what not. EVERYTHING. Now that would be a great start (one can dream).

    1. Especially mavericks like Storm Eagle!

  5. Ehh a Ciel figure would be nice too!

  6. More robot masters please. Getting the 4 inch nel Cutman with Super Megaman was nice, now I'd like to see more. (Jazwares doesn't count)

  7. I'd buy a Steel Massimo in a heartbeat.

  9. I have been wanting for someone to make a Alia figure forever. Also i'd really like to see Vile. Coupled with the X figure It would allow for somegood displays.

  10. if we're just talking X characters, I want green biker dude with bike, magma dragoon, dynamo, cinnamon, spider, X8 X, Layer and Iris.

  11. Huh. They mention big names like Axl and Sigma, but not Zero.

    1. So Zero is already in their line. No need to mention it.

  12. All are good ideas! Except Axl

    1. I admit, I laughed. I personally don't think we need any more X. We're good on the amount of X merch.

Sigma or Vile though? Yes. Either a Koto Vile or a re-release of the D-Arts Vile.

  13. It's neat that they're considering non-X non-Zero characters.

So we have the following from them:

    - Mega Man
    - Roll
    - Proto Man
    - X
    - Third Armor X
    - (MMZ) Zero

With (MMX2) Zero being extremely probable.

From the MMX series, I would like to see any of these:
    - Vile MK-2
    - Magma Dragoon
    - Iris
    - Psycho Sigma
    - Alia

I would absolutely LOVE more characters from MMZ, such as:
    - Ultimate Armor Copy X
    - Harpuia
    - Fefnir
    - Leviathan
    - Phantom
    - Ciel

Especially Copy X (I would love them forever if they did it), but I can understand giving priority to MMX first.

Hopefully they give us something cool

    1. From what I read, Psycho Sigma is X5. Neo Sigma is X2. Am I mistaken?

      Delete
    2. You are correct, X5 Sigma is Psycho Sigma and is the design I hope they end up choosing if they opt for a Sigma kit.

      Delete
    3. Honestly, Neo Sigma is so gaudy and I can't imagine he'd be a whole lot of fun to build unless you wanna experiment with a better color palette.

Now Psycho Sigma? That's definitely one of his better outfits.

  14. See. If.they do indeed make these into model kits they'll replace my 4 inch nel x on the shelf.

  15. None of those are obscure characters... Maybe Iris and possibly Alia. An obscure character would be Dynamo or Bit and Byte. Alia, Sigma and Vile at least have some sort of name brand figure recognition.

Is there any sort of name brand Axl thing? I guess he fits but... f it just make a damn Alia figure. That's what Koto is good at anyway.

    1. you'd be surprised. of course they're not obscure to any of us, we are Megaman Fan. but to the general audience, they are quite obscure. the franchise stopped being mainstream a few years ago. Megaman (classic) is probably well known to anyone familiar with video game, especially since he is in Smash bros. X and Zero among any video game fan, but the more you move away from them, but aside from them, the more you have characters that only Megaman fan can instantly recognize. this is why we always get the same characters in figure.
exception with Sigma, he is probably not too far behind X and Zero themselves in terms of recognition, but just never made into a figure, probably because he is really not cute.

      Delete
    2. Really not cute? Of course he isn't - he's built like a bulkier M.Bison/Dictator. :P He's a big, strong reploid of a man!

  16. I'd love to see a Kotobukiya Vile and Model X or Model ZX kit.

    ReplyDelete
  17. There is also a mention of Ride Armor and Godkarmachine O'Inary. X3 must be among their favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'd buy an Alia or an Iris. Hey! Don't be afraid to release a two pack!
We'll just see how the line goes.

How about Doctor Light in a Karate Gi with Capsule. That would be obscure.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So, I don't understand something - why model kits? At all? Like, why not just more D-Arts?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Koto currently hold the license to produce Mega Man model kits. D-Arts is Bandai's territory, although they've long since discontinued D-Arts

      Delete
    2. Didn't they switch to Figuarts, or am I missing something?

      Delete
  20. I think they'll make Iris, Alia, Axl. thoses are the most viable option for them. Maybe Vile and Sigma.
Now, for what i'd personally like, that would be Iris, Alia, Colonel, and maybe Dynamo.
And Magma dragoon. i know there are little chances for a maverick boss to get a figure, but if someone should ever try making one, they should probably go with him

    ReplyDelete
  21. ...Iris is an obscure character? That's news to me. If they really want to go the "obscure" route, then they should consider making figures of characters like Trio.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Obscure in the grander scheme of things. Maybe not obscure amongst dedicated Megaman fans, but obscure to the rest of the world compared to Mega Man, X, and Zero? Yes. I feel like Megafans over-estimated how much of a big deal Mega Man is in the world at large.

      Delete
    2. she is obscure in the general sense. obsviousely not obscure for megaman fans.

      Delete
  22. Oh, Jesus! Not Robo-Aeris!
They only just restarted this line and they're already dooming it again.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Iris is one of the most popular character aside from the mainstream one like X and Zero (who already got their figure). (for that matter, Aeris is one as well) even if there are peoples disliking them, making merch of such characters is worthwile. on top of that considering the figure market, making cute girl is more likely to catter to figure fans in general than say...Sigma, for exemple, even if us fans would personally enjoy getting a Sigma Figure.
And finally, even assuming that Iris was a unpopular choice, whoever they might make is not going to "doom the line" as you say, since whoever they will make next actually only depend on strong sellers like X aniway. Basically it boil down to "if X sell enough to support the risk of making other character, they'll do it". Because making MM characters aside from Megaman, Roll, X, MMX Zero and MMz Zero is often not worth the risk. that's why we always get thoses characters only. not a matter of anyone dooming the line.

      Delete
    2. I don't think there was enough time separation for Iris to be a clone, the games were released 7 months apart almost to the t, on top of MMX4 needing to split release on two licensed competing console platforms simultaneously which surely complicated deadlines on top of Sony being annoying with their anti 2D policy.

      It could be but eh...

      Delete
  23. ¿Anything? Because I would like an Over-10 figure. I've always liked bulky designs and religious/mythological simbolism.

    Or Vile Mk.II :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd love to see Command Mission protagonists and bosses.

And ZX needs some love. There are no figures from this series. Vent and Aile could be released as a single figure with parts to change between the two (and maybe their ZXA looks too?), like Roll can change between classic and MM8 looks:
    *Vent/Aile
    *Model X
    *Model ZX

And they can be made compatible with the Zero figure to make Model OX.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Now, if they make alia, are we talking X5-7 alia? X6 past alia? X8 alia?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I always thought that the General would make an epic figure. I mean just LOOK at him. It will probably never happen, though, as he's a BIG character who is pretty small in the grand scheme of things. And speaking of Command Mission, I would not be against a Cinnamon kit/figure with kitty paws.

Also, though it isn't X-related, Shooting Star Rockman (SSR3 ver.) NEEDS to happen sometime.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bring on the X-hunters as well as bit and byte.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I could definitely go for Iris and Axl.
Bit, Byte, Colonel and the X-Hunters would also be appreciated.
Even most of the regular robot masters would pick my interest. Such as Magma Dragoon, Neon Tiger, Blaze Heatnix, Spiral Pegasus...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'd love a figure of absolute Zero myself from Command mission. Yes, he is still zero, but a version I haven't seen a figure of yet.

    ReplyDelete
  30. adoraria ver todos os personagens da saga Mavericks e hunters começando pelo primeiro titulo X :)
