New Images of Kotobuiya Mega Man X Model Kit + Release Window

First revealed back in February, Kotobukiya brings us several brand-new images of their upcoming Mega Man X model kit – in color! He's looking mighty fine, folks.

The official Kotobukiya Twitter account writes:

"X finally joins our lineup as a plastic model kit in honor of the first Mega Man X game’s 25th anniversary! The character’s proportions, based on the character’s appearance in Mega Man X4, are faithfully recreated and allows users to recreate a variety of scenes from the games."

X will retail for 6,000 yen (about $53 US) and is expected to ship later this August through the usual channels (AmiAmi, Big Bad Toystore, etc.). Fans who order the kit directly from Kotobukiya will have the option to receive a limited edition background sheet that's not available anywhere else. It looks something like this:

It's funny; the kit itself is based on X4 yet the background is from X6. Alrighty then.

Anyway, we'll have a follow-up post with various pre-order links in due time. August can't come soon enough!

  3. It's been a while since I've looked forward to a model kit more than this one.
Hopefully this'll open the way for kits of characters that don't already have a surplus of figures to their name already.

  4. i immediately thought "look like X4 proportion" when i saw it, so look like they did a great job with it

  5. Oh how I wish this wasn't a model kit but a actual figure. I might have to get this from the website for the backdrop.

  6. So will this model come with those yellow effects? Often times things like that are extra. Looks like it probably will.

I'm definitely getting one of these.

  7. Are there any details on how tall the kit is?

  8. I want the background, but I support my local ma and pa shop first and foremost. They do alot of cool model events so I want them to stay.

Looks amazing maybe the best X action figure yet. Read its 135 mm tall.
Cant wait for those links to preorder you mentioned.

    1. 5.3" should scale him around the size of the D-Arts figures.

  10. Ahhhhh yeeeeeee. Looks very good! Definitely going to jump on this preorder.

  11. 135mm tall seems rather short compared to their previous kits at 1/10 scale. He'd be shorter than Blues.

  12. They already made the MMZ Zero model, so what will kill the line this time? Axl?

    1. Well the MMX series Zero of course.

    2. i dislike Axl so much, as many others do too, so probably yes that would end the line

    3. You don't speak for all of us. I like Axl.

    4. nothing "kill" line, they just stop once they are done making every viable enough character, which mean if they start chronologically, this usually end with MMZ Zero. They can't afford to make something only die hard fan would buy.
Though i would love to see them try making Alia. that might be a risk worth taking, ince a figure of a pretty girl might sell outside of Megaman fans and reach figure fans in general.

    5. What will kill something uh... twice...(?) I guess the line comes back like Zero.

Anyway it will probably end with the last of the typical sell-able characters I.E Rock and Rush, Roll, X and armors,(X) Zero sometimes MM.EXE, Sigma, Vile, Bass, Blues/Proto Man (MMZ) Zero and very rarely Volnutt, Tron and Caskett Roll.

You will rarely RARELY see one line continue to support most of those characters AND something like an Aile/Vent, Subaru/Geo, Harp Note, Random Robot Master, Random NetNavi, Random Maverick Boss, support character etc etc. That first list is usually it, after that rinse repeat.

    6. I'd LOVE an official Alia model. I wouldn't mind an Axl either though I'm not worried about him.

    7. I wouldn't mind seeing an Iris one, personally.

    8. MMZ Zero kills every line they put him in, even if they have others to make. Kotobukiya is proving that there are more figures to make, but when they make MMZ Zero, it ended. Same with the Giant figures, figure arts series too.

Further evidence is how in every line that MMZ Zero has ended, all the other figures sell for a lot in the second hand market, but MMZ Zero is a lot cheaper and always still in stock.

    9. @Erik the Red: I can't speak to the second hand market (but I do see A LOT of fan made figures of MMZ Zero, more than any other character in the franchise actually, selling for bucket loads) but I think the reason Kotobukiya stopped at Mega Man Zero is because they didn't want to compete with the much more successful Bandai line D-Arts and Figuarts at the time. Evident by the fact that they didn't have any overlapping characters at the same time frame.

If MMZ Zero tanked the line by itself two things wouldn't have happened Bandai wouldn't then make a figure for MMZ Zero down the line and continue to make Mega Man figures after, Kotobukiya would have ate the loss from Zero and continued to support popular characters at the time... and thirdly I guess as an add on MMZ Zero wouldn't consistently win voting polls after the Kotobukiya hiatus.

Now look at Kotobukiya, are they making Magma Dragoon? Are they making Duo? Are they making Commander Redips? No, they are making base X a character done to death by Bandai (and others), there are like three versions of X in the D-Arts line alone, if Koto really wanted to make X back then to compete with the Bandai X figures they could have just done that back then, but I don't think they wanted that. Yes it can be assumed that they are gearing up to capitalize on a hypothetical X9 or something, but at this point that is just like I said, assumption, and why would they do it before the hypothetical hype of an X series revival, the X4 design/style may not even be the basis of it?

Why is Koto doing the same old thing? Actually I'd venture to say it might end again with some Zero series Zero maybe a Mythos model kit variant, don't let that surprise you.

  13. While the figure is awesome and all, they could've added more than just the buster and energy effects. Maybe one of the many Maverick bosses to help create an authentic battle scenario. Just a thought. As it stands, it's pretty dull on its own with just X shooting at nothing.

    1. can't see them making a maverick boss. not enough peoples would buy it.
Maybe Vile or something would be a possibility, though.

      Delete
    2. No, Vile is tired out. The Maverick bosses need their time to shine in figure, but whoever decides these things is too damn stubborn to see it.

    3. There's no way figure companies could justify making Maverick figures when they have such a small target audience. As much as we might want it, the business case just doesn't stack up. I mean you'd want them to be accurately sized right? They'd be gigantic, they'd cost twice as much as a character like X. And no Maverick is nearly iconic enough to bring customers.

      Delete
    4. No Maverick? Really now?

      Delete
    5. Not that anyone really asked for my opinion but I don't care if they are accurately sized or not. Only some execeptions like Blizzard Buffalo or Storm Owl which are obviously much different. I don't remember the exact sizes compared to X, if they are supposed to be a little smaller or larger I won't care if they are the same size.
However I agree they are huge risks for any company.

  15. If you guys saw, Amiami has it's own exclusive ver that comes with a stand or something, but no pics of it yet.

  16. I wish I didn't stink at putting together model kits. Thankfully I already have the D-Arts release so I'm probably not missing out on too much.

  17. How exactly is using the X4 design paying tribute to the 25th Anniversary of the first X game? That's both short-sighted and stupid, like putting MegaMan.Exe's face on MegaMan's 15th Anniversary logo.
