At the 2025 All Japan Model and Hobby Show, reputable model kit enthusiast x_ledur met Shohei Chiba, the lead planner behind Kotobukiya’s Mega Man kits. Though busy, Chiba took a moment to chat and confirmed that the mysterious kit teased on January 31, 2024, is “still alive.” This is the first official mention of the project since its reveal.
The silhouette has sparked plenty of debate among fans. While guesses range from Copy X to Command Mission X or even something from X DiVE, none seem to fit the shape exactly. I’ve also confirmed that Kotobukiya’s license to produce Mega Man model kits, originally granted in 2010, only covers characters that appear in the official games. This means that, unless the terms have changed, the new kit can’t be an original Kotobukiya creation—it has to be based on an existing in-game character.
All we can continue to do now is wait for Kotobukiya or Capcom to finally pull back the curtain.
I really wonder if they are planning another live show soon. It has been ages since the last one. The Kotobukiya blog post for X1 Zero mentioned multiple Mega Man X series kits incoming.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see what's cooking!
God it's almost been 2 years? Capcom needs to get on with announcing whatever game they've been working on
ReplyDeleteI hope it's Command Mission X, but Ultimate Armor Copy X would also be cool.
ReplyDeleteCould be so many things, and all the options which came to my mind fit and do not fit the image.
ReplyDeleteI thought it could be one updated Super Bass, based on what seems wings on his back and the gear symbol on the background. It could be even Bass Exe, and what seem to be wings could actually be Gospel Exe head.
I also considered it could be some Star Force character such as Black Ace, judging by the announcement of SF Collection, in a similar fashion to what happened to BN Collection, but none of these characters seem to fit the helmet criteria... unless they are updating existing new characters for a new release.
i kinda thought they had completely forgotten about this lol... I wouldn't even had known about this if it wasn't for shadowrockzx covering it. The fact that they're still working on this makes me wonder if they're still "working" on that mysterious mmxdive offline ending.
