Mega Man X: Command Mission, the 2004 RPG that has never been re-released in any official capacity, is now available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 for $9.99, or at no additional cost for PlayStation Plus Premium members.
It goes without saying, but this is the PlayStation 2 version of the game, which means the then-console-exclusive Mega Man X8 demo is still intact. As a PS Classic, it does feature a few modern touches, namely upscaled resolution, faster load times and Remote Play. It does not, however, include Trophies.
For non-PlayStation owners, all we can do for now is hope the game eventually makes its way to other platforms. Capcom has previously expressed interest in re-releasing more titles that aren't available on modern hardware, though for the time being, all efforts appear to be focused on Mega Man: Dual Override.

ReplyDeleteI do think it would be smart to release a "Legacy Collection" of side titles. Stuff like Mega Man Soccer, Powered Up, Maverick Hunter X, Command Mission, Battle Network 4.5, Network Transmission, etc.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, if capcom managed to get stand alone versions of these games available on steam and switch that would make me happy. Legacy Collections work well for individual series where it's easy to group up multiple titles. I can only really see a full legacy collection for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color Mega Mans being bundled together.

Delete@Erik I didn't leave anything out. I specifically went out of my way to use phrasing such as "Stuff like" and "etc." so that everything like this is included without needing a specific mention. The mentions on my list are only to get across what I mean, not the full extent of what I'm talking about.
Delete@mega They have a tendency to break up the collections when they start to include more than like 4 games in them but I don't really see any reason why this has to be the case. Huge game collections exist elsewhere like SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics and Capcom Arcade Stadium so I don't see any reason why they couldn't do something similar here. They could even do the thing where each game is purchasable separately as "DLC" for the bigger collection so that there's the option to buy the full collection for less than buying each game individually would cost but those who don't want every game can just grab the ones they do want.
At the end of the day I am hypothesizing what capcom would do, but the benefit of having some individual game releases could be as simple as developers working on certain projects being able to improve compatibility on a game per game basis or including an amount of bonus material with a specific release. i feel like games like super adventure rockman, mega man battle and chase and mega man's soccer benefit more from this approach that companies like hamster would be doing for their console archive series to name an example.
Deleteif we're talking about accessibility, capcom's website has started to host digital versions of games you can play for free online like mega man's soccer. that one was really surprising.
Something like the CAPCOM Arcade Stadium would be the best option imo.
DeleteBut I can see them making a Mega Man Legacy Collection 3 with Soccer, Powered Up, Battle & Chase, Super Adventure and the handheld games, and a separate one for the others in the style of the Arcade Stadium, where you can buy the games separately or together for a discount.

ReplyDeleteInsane how they shadow dropped this with no warning lol. This is my first time playing the game and I gotta say its pretty cool. The animations are pretty crap but the gameplay and VA is good. I play my games mostly physically (in fact I have all of the Modern Mega Man games physically) so having this one be a digital exclusive kinda sucks, but maybe they'll include it in a legacy collection someday. My dream always was that they'd do a Sonic gems collection thing and release the obscure games together. Yk, Battle & Chase, Powered Up, Maverick Hunter X, Operation Shooting Star, Command Mission, all of those.
