Mega Man X Characters Attend Teppen's "Dark Auction" Event [UPDATED]

The latest Teppen update has dropped, and it brings together characters from Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Mega Man and other Capcom characters as a spy team. Their mission: recover the stolen Kinship Stone from the suspicious auction house in Castle Salazar.

In line with this new storyline, a fresh card pack featuring Mega Man X-themed cards has made its debut. You can check the art and flavor text after the break!

  6. We need more villain stories and varying plots in Mega Man. The villains are usually so one note ouside of the Zero series.

    1. I'd say that even Ballade is less one-note than Omega or Weil.

Weil is NOT one note, the way he is an allegory for Zero overcoming Wily and coming full circle with the only robot to really not follow status quo and be built to kill his enemies is chef's kiss man.. chef's kiss. It's the biggest irony in gaming. It works with Vile too as Zero is the one who wouldn't hesitate to kill (cause Vile keeps getting away) AND comes full circle with the sacrifice he made in near vain in X1.

      Omega's not really a villain like that, he's just a monster of the show type deal. He is comparable to a force of nature entity like Godzilla, or Jason Voorhees. In other words he is just a tool more so than a character, a nuclear option for the actual villains if you will. He is more comparable to High Max (although High Max is suppose to be more of a character)

    3. I dunno... Sprite ain't wrong.
      Weil is just a madman with no arc. All his character development is assumed and off screen. He's there to be beaten. Thats it. Kraft is less one note than Weil is.
      Ballade has an actual story arc with actual character development.
      Being "one note" is just that. A lack of character development. Not allegory. At least thats how I always looked at it.

    4. I always think of one note as only having one layer, one aspect if you will. To me having multiple notes doesn't mean having character shifts necessarily, it just means you do more than just one type of thing to contribute to a series. Like Wily is only ever known for building and editing machines to take over the world.

      Weil and Wily have arcs in the way you mean anyway. I don't know if Weil was always a madman. For me the role he played in the Maverick Wars vs the Elf Wars vs MMZ is very different. He schemes a lot more cunningly than Wily, he plays a shadow figure role for most of the events that happen in MMZ, then an active public ruler, to an active fighting foe. His motivations shift through his run as well, since originally his schemes only involved tech, then after his banishment and regen suit he then came to actively hate humans. What I mean to say with all this is that his villainy has range, he doesn't always do the one villainous act with the one villainous motive in the same villainous way over and over. You can say Sigma, but Sigma always had the same motivation since becoming a villain, and Sigma was far more repetitive and dragged out than Weil (and less successful I might add).

      Anyway this is all just my opinion.

    5. Opinions are fine. But what you really describing is plot. You want deeper plot.
      Its easy to confuse plot with character. A solid backstory is not the same as character development. Every single character in history has a backstory.

      Weil has the exact same arc Wily does. He has absolutely zero character growth.
      I not sure how you can differentiate his schemes from Wilys. They are quite similar.
      Its all evil act of the week, Weil is just more extreme. He doesnt go around promoting free bank loans, everything he does is the same: to rule the world. Just like Wily. He does noththing but be evil. He contributes alot to the plot but nothing else.
      Elpizo is an actual character. He has a rise, a fall a sacrifice and redemption all in one game. You see everything we imagine Weil goes through.

      Now, if Weil was driven insane because in MMZ2 Zero killed his dog that was given to him by his robot waifu, thats an arc. But in the context of the story Weil was bonkers at the beginning, middle and end with no change. We can assume he went mad or we can assume he was always mad, it does not mean his character had any growth. His entire story is Revenge dictated by the plot. Thats it. The plot itself has no impact on Weil's character direcltly outside of his death. Thats not an arc either.

      Now I am going to argue Wily has a better arc the Weil does, because in MM10's ending you get a peak at his character growth a little. A hint of compassion, remorse, and/or transformation.
      Not just his revenge plot of the week stuff that persists all they way through MMX.

    7. Different anon here, but with all due respect is it really character development if it was always part of a character's personality and just not mentioned? I mean, Wily in 10 shows honor for me not compassion as in someone unexpectedly did a good deed to him so he'll also do it in return. Can't recall a moment when Rock or anyone did something for him and he rewarded that someone in return. If he didn't then yeah he gained some honor. If he did then it was always part of his character. He always planned to take advantage of Right in 1 and 3 before you bring them as examples. Right's contributions would be manpower not a good deed to him at least I think so.

      Did Elpis really sacrifice himself? As far as I recall he just had a battle to the death with Zero and assumed he would win. Also, not sure what you mean with redemption if you mean the manga or something else because as far as I remember the Mother Elf turns him into an elf and that's it. I agree with the rest though.

    8. Another different anon here. I think the problem with Mega Man having such shallow villains most of the time has to do with how the games traditionally present their stories. The hero rarely gets to interact with the villain prior to their final battle, outside of maybe a first encounter at the beginning or a threat sent by the villain midway through. The main villains in Mega Man games are usually treated as just a threat to be overcome, and rarely get any additional focus to provide actual depth to them. The dubious canonicity of the various manga and comics don't exactly help here either, as they often conflict with each other and the games themselves.

      Oddly enough, I'd say that Maverick Hunter X and the Day of Sigma OVA of all things were a step in the right direction by giving us an extended look at how Sigma became a villain as well as showing us some of the Mavericks before they joined Sigma, but Capcom seems uninterested in revisiting that kind of storytelling.
