Capcom Shares Rare Mega Man Legends Art for Tezuka Museum Exhibit

The Capcom Vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters art exhibit is currently in full swing in Japan. For those of us who aren't fortunate enough to attend in person, Capcom's official artwork Twitter account has been sharing collaborative art created exclusively for the exhibit, as well as artwork from Capcom's archives that's currently on display.

Today, they shared a very rare piece featuring Mega Man Volnutt, Roll Caskett, Tron Bonne, Data, and a Servbot, casually hanging out with Anarkis from Darkstalkers. The illustration is the work of Ryuji Higurashi, who served as the package artist for the Japan-exclusive Rockman DASH 1 and DASH 2 PSP ports back in 2005.

Considering this information, along with the seemingly unexpected inclusion of Anarkis, it leaves me with the impression that this piece was originally created as part of a promotional campaign for the PSP, aimed at promoting the DASH ports and Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower. UPDATE: Sure enough, it was indeed part of a 2006 PSP campaign! The original image featured several other characters as well.

If you're headed to the show this weekend, be sure to check it out in person! I'm sure it will look even better without the watermark...

  1. It indeed seems like something done for the psp port,
I'm surprised they had unpublished art from this era.

  2. This artwork was actually published for a PSP promotion. Perhaps the other characters might be present at the show?

  3. I’m getting real sick of all the love the legends series gets. Sure people complain that legends 3 got canceled, but at least they have things to work with. I can't seem to find a single concept art of unused contend for the battle network series except
Kalinka. I'm so desperate for Crashman EXE, he doesn't need to be in a new battle network game. I would settle on a doodle made by the creator of Quickman EXE or any official battle network artist at this point.

    3. What's so special about Crashman EXE? Was he cut from one of the games or something? I don't know much about Battle Network.

Y...you're kidding right? This is a joke right?

"Sure people complain that legends 3 got canceled, but at least they have things to work with" - Sure, like, two games with a cliffhanger and a spin off and the occasional Servbot cameo? Even Starforce has more to work with and feels complete.

"I can't seem to find a single concept art of unused contend for the battle network series" - Oh boo-hoo, you know what's better than unused concept art? Actual GAMES, which you've had PLENTY of in the past. Is it on the same level of Classic or even X? No, but 6 games that have a sense of finality + spin off's is no joke; not to mention an ANIME series, a movie, toys, an anniversary celebration AND collection - yeah you BN fans have no right to get this upset over...a simple unusued concept image? - are you seriously kidding me?

BN fans can be awesome, but some of you really don't get how SPOILED you are sometimes, right up there with Classic - 'yeesh.

    1. Man, the things I'd do for a Mega Man Zero anime.

  6. It’s really a shame there isn’t an official art book for Legends/Dash short of the strategy guides. I would love to have one for the ol’ book shelf.
Still an awesome find nonetheless. : )
