Check Out the Fan-Made "Mega Man 11" Soundtrack

In case the post title didn't make it clear, this is fan-made. Fan-made. Yes Mega Man 11 doesn't exist, but hey, a guy can dream, right?

To honor the Blue Bomber's upcoming 25th anniversary, professional video game composer Xavier "mv" Dang created an entire chiptune soundtrack for a fake "Mega Man 11." Right now, you can tune in to a listening party on his TwitchTV channel. Shortly afterwards, he'll release the album on his Bandcamp page for free download!

All in all, the OST is a true labor of love. If you've got an ear for chiptune music, check it out!

Thanks to Destructoid's Tony Ponce for the tip!

  2. The music sounds great, but I must say that I'm repulsed by a lot of those RM designs. Only a handful of them actually feel like robot masters, the others have more of a maverick vibe, or seem like they should be in a different series altogether.

Dr. Robotnik confirmed as a Robot Master! Just kidding. I couldn't resist, I just couldn't.

  5. ... "Card Man"? Really?

But, yeah. Cyberguy said everything else I was going to say.

  6. I'm really kind of disappointed that with the amount of work going into this, it's still not an actual fan-game. Almost kind of like a waste, unless they're intending to turn this into a fan-game after finishing this work, or inspire someone else to.

But then again, like Cyberguy said, I can't say that I really like the Robot Masters designs at all. Whip Woman looks far too human-like, and has a design a little too elaborate for something that would fit the style of the classic series. Also, it doesn't help that I get a Miss Doronjo vibe from Yatterman. Hammer Man looks more like something belonging to the X series as a Maverick. Dash Man scares me for some reason. Eggman, as Krazy Monkey put it, is lols-worthy. And the rest is kind of just, no comment. I've seen my fair share of fan-made Robot Masters before, and I have to say, this is probably among the worst I have seen so far.

So maybe in some ways, maybe it's a good thing that this isn't an actual fan-game.

No offense to the makers of this or anything, I can see that they put a lot of effort into this, but some of it just really needs a lot of improvement.

  7. Come to think of it, Hammer Mammoth sounds like an awesome name for a maverick.

But yeah, the good Dr. Jerk has completely explained my unease with their designs. Whip Woman also bugs me with just how unashamedly sexy her design is. Sometimes I think people forget that Megaman is meant to be family friendly.

Most of the others are just bland or overdone. I can't see them converting well to 8-bit sprites at all. (Suddenly, I feel a masochistic need to break out the old NES pallet for some reason.) The only decent designs to me are Sound Man and Worm Man. Kinda sad really.

  8. Not all of them may be the greatest of designs, but I think it's nice to extra effort even went into this project. Besides, even the official games have silly robot masters. Bubble Man, Top Man, Jewel Man, anyone?

This is a thoughtful way to celebrate Mega Man's 25th anniversary. I'm liking the music and it's free so I really can't find much to gripe about.

  9. What happens when Mega Man 11 does come out?

  10. Krazy Monkey didn't say it, so I will. I hate that they recycled the Mega Man 2 tracks. They REALLY could have just made new ones man....this isn't Mega Man 9.

Other than that, it's a decent soundtrack. Might require a few more listens though. Surprisingly, I found the MM2 Dr. Wily Castle 1 & 2 MMX style arrangement to be interesting.

  11. Yeah, the designs are really meh. I can't do any better, but I can still see there is plenty of room for improvement.

Oh well. The music sounds great. Nice to see fan effort being put towards the 25th anniversary.

  12. @Reggie White Jr: Yes the series did have some pretty silly, official RMs. However even then, those RMs had still fit with the 'world' that the classic series had. Their styles, creations, and overall everything else, had fit with the world, as silly as they were.

    These however, feel misplaced.

  13. I really couldn't concentrate on the music with the jarringly out of place Robot Masters. It looks like the musician had a bunch of artist friends and asked them to do OC fanart for Mega Man, even if they had no idea what the series was about.

  14. Some of the Robot Masters look fugly imo.

  15. Worm Man looks cool. I like it. :)

  16. I had just accepted the fact that there would be no more MegaMan games the day before Eleven was announced. Pretty ironic, huh?
