"Make Rockman" Announced

Announced on Monday via the Rockman Unity Twitter account, an interesting and unusual development with the franchise is about to unfold...

Mega Man Battle Network: Mega Man vs Bass Statue Confirmed for U.S Release

MegaHouse's much-anticipated Mega Man.EXE vs Bass.EXE statue is officially headed to the U.S. The news comes to us via Previews World and a recent Amazon pre-order page.

Here's the official English product description:

"From MegaHouse. From MegaHouse comes this Game Character Collection DX figure of Mega Man and Bass battling each other atop the head of Treble! It measures 7.9" x 9.4" and has been created with incredible attention to detail. They stare down one another with serious expressions as they prepare their next attack. Mega Man can be displayed with or without his battle mask. The intensity of the scene is expressed through dynamic sculpting such as the billowing of Bass' cape. The shimmering, transparent head of Treble and base with circuit board-like details engraved around its border completes the atmosphere of the piece. Display this fierce battle of the cyber world in your collection!

The statue is expected to go on sale starting February 24th, 2021 for a suggested retail price of $229.99. However, it's worth pointing out that Amazon are offering it much cheaper -- about $181 at the time of this writing. That price is much closer to it's Japanese counterpart, which goes on sale in December for 15,400 yen or roughly $145 US.

My advice to you is, wait just a little bit longer before placing a pre-order. The final price tag probably isn't set in stone just yet. Ideally, it really should cost no more than $200. We'll see.

REVIEW: Mega Man: Fully Charged #1: On the Right Path

It's been almost 5 years since the last issue of Archie's Mega Man comic was published. Many fans have mourned both the comic's absence and the ritual of reading new Mega Man stories on a monthly basis. And finally, after all this time, another comic based on Mega Man hit comic book stores.

To everyone's surprise, though, this comic is neither edited by Archie nor based on the video games. Instead, it's a continuation of the Mega Man Fully Charged animated series.

How did the first issue turn out? You can read my opinion after the break! Beware, it has SPOILERS!

Defying Expectations, Mega Man Fully Charged #1 is a Big Success for Boom Studios

Mega Man's return to U.S comics is off to a mighty start.

Less than a week after hitting newsstands, Bloody Disgusting reports that Mega Man Fully Charged issue #1 has become the highest selling comic launch in the franchise's history with a cool 30,009 copies. By comparison, Archie's Mega Man #1 debuted with 12,586 copies in 2011.

"I'm hearing that the first issue has sold out the day of on-sale despite a healthy overprint," writes Blood Disgusting's Rich Johnston. "No doubt a second printing is imminent." Indeed, a reprint featuring brand-new cover art is due on September 23.

The success of Fully Charged #1 is drawing comparisons to the Boom Studios' highly successfully Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Expectations for MMPR were low... but the first issue surprised everyone by outselling literally every comic published by Marvel in 2016. The rest is history.

While it's still a little too early to call it, if these numbers remain consistent, Mega Man may have a bright future at Boom Studios. Mega Man Fully Charged is expected to run for six issues... but after that, who knows?

Joe Ruby, Co-Creator of Mega Man "Ruby-Spears" Cartoon, Has Died

Animation legend Joe Ruby, who not only co-created Scooby-Doo! but the now-infamous early nineties Mega Man cartoon, passed away on Wednesday, August 26th. He was 87-years-old.

“He never stopped writing and creating, even as he aged,” his grandson Benjamin Ruby told Variety.

Alongside Ken Spears, Joe Ruby worked with Capcom to develop the animated Mega Man series in 1994. A good 26 years later, the show is fondly remembered by fans and non-fans alike. It's a delightful cheesy romp that's spawned countless fan-art, parodies and memes. It will not be soon forgotten. (It is, after all, available to watch in its entirely on YouTube)

For those interested, M Sipher published a great interview with Joe several years ago that's worth a read. Joe talks about the show's origins, the mythical season 3, the unproduced Mega Man X spin-off, and more.

Goodbye, Joe. Thanks for the memories!
